sure, ilya's jealousy over rose is funny because shane is gay and his sex life with rose was so bad she had to intervene and make shane come out to her. however we failed to consider that ilya genuinely cannot fathom shane being bad in bed. anytime they've slept together it was under-negotiated kink heaven for both of them, so he literally cannot wrap his head around the fact that rose is not looking for a repeat performance. he did not see shane go through the five stages of grief at the thought of having to fuck his gorgeous movie star girlfriend. so to him rose being in shane's life post breakup can only mean one thing: she still wants that cookie badddd
one reoccurring theme that i really enjoyed in the books that i'm bummed wasn't included in the show is the fact that ilya is bothered that he's never been to shane's actual apartment where he lives. the drunk phone call where ilya asks shane to describe his home and what books he has on his nightstand is, to me, just as intimate as his russian monologue. ilya is no stranger to hookup culture, he knows how this works. he knows that letting someone who you're casually sleeping with (or even just a one night stand) into your home is normal and it doesn't have to mean anything. so when shane insists on creating as much distance between them as possible, to make whatever they have exist somewhere else where he doesn't have to see the evidence of it in his space, ilya is irked. sure, logically, logically, he understands why shane is doing this. they're high profile public figures and it would be bad for both of them to be caught in eachother's homes. but shane denying ilya the most basic act of trust of letting ilya see where he goes to bed and wakes up every day, it kind of hurts. it makes ilya feel like maybe he's offering more of himself than he should, since shane has been to his actual home. and it bothers him. and it bothers him that it bothers him, because then he's dangerously close to thinking about how he actually feels about shane. he's too close to confronting that he might actually want more from him
guys. he was his first boyfriend
everyone is unequivocally on kip's side in the divorce bc he's kip and bc scott immediately gets a controversially young boyfriend. that lasts until four months later kip also gets a controversially young boyfriend
one of the reasons why heated rivalry appeals to so many people is that it's the ultimate "love is enough" fantasy. we spent nine years hiding our true selves from eachother. but it's okay because love is enough. all of my worst fears - people finding out i'm gay against my will, reacting badly, me being gay affecting my career negatively - happen exactly as i envisioned them. but it's okay because love is enough. i left my entire life, career and legacy behind, moved to another country only to feel like a shell of my former self, becoming depressed. but it's okay because love is enough. my relationship will never be mine and mine alone and the whole world will know about it and criticize it. but it's okay because love is enough love is enough love is en
once their relationship gets more serious, bighud gently broaches the subject of meeting connie's daughter. she talks about her in passing sometimes, how she's in college now and how proud of her she is and how she misses having little morning chats with her at breakfast. connie is apprehensive at first, after all, their relationship is relatively new and when she mentioned to her daughter that she's been seeing someone, daughter said "ok👍" and left it at that. after some convincing (bighud wants to be a respectable guy and meet his girlfriend's wonderful daughter) connie plans a dinner for the three of them. hud is nervous, of course, this is kind of a big deal. before the dinner he takes an hour choosing a suit (he goes for the plaid navy blue one, but after walking out the door he realises that maybe a sweater would have been better) and another fifteen minutes giving himself a pep talk that he can do this and this is fine and this was his idea in the first place so why is he even nervous. he contemplates getting the daughter some flowers, but decides against this and buys a bottle of malbec, because although rosé would probably suit the tastes of a college student better, connie doesn't like it. when he gets to connie's house, connie meets him at the door with her daughter in tow. whereas connie is gregarious, her daughter is more reserved, perhaps harbouring some leftover teenage angst. he decides that by the end of the evening he has to get into her good graces. at the dinner table he talks about his job in sales and the daughter listens with polite disinterest offering occasional mhms and okays. he asks about her studies and immediately feels like an old stupid man when she talks vaguely about her biology lectures and labs and he doesn't understand any of it. he thinks. he thinks the dinner is going awkwardly, but he sees that connie is trying her hardest not to look overjoyed by bighud making such a big effort to take interest in her daughter's life. he sees connie and her daughter exchanging little inside jokes that he's not in on, but he doesn't feel left out. it feels warm. connie and her daughter have the same smile. after the dinner is finished, connie walks him to the doorstep and says "i think she really, really liked you"
connie's daughter sees bighud as her mother's younger boytoy, but she can't help but feel endeared by his swagless demeanour and tryhardism. and he makes her mom happy
dnp will probably have to find new conspiracies for the tour bc now we know for sure they are liars. in bwagfeo you can clearly see the bathroom door open in the background and well well well, if it ain't two toilets facing eachother....
