Gen and Miles Vorkosigan meeting?

let’s just discuss the large-scale, multi-character “what if my two favorite extended ruling families - who I would actually trust to run countries/planets even though they inherited rather than got elected - met in, like, the shared green room behind the stages where they all act out their respective and completely unrelated stories” crossover.

Aral immediately gets pulled into the Retired(ish) Warrior Dads Complaining/Bragging About Their Sons group, i.e. Sophos’s father and the Eddisian Minister of War. There is alcohol involved, of which Aral partakes only a bit because the conversation is more inter- who am I kidding he gets smashed. Cordelia watches fondly, and probably participates in the complaining, bragging, and drinking.

Irene and Alys discuss fashion. Gen joins in,

Simon and Relius prop up the wall together, watching everyone and swapping espionage tips and, eventually, stories of the weirdest missions they’ve sent people on or letters they’ve intercepted.

The Magus and Duv get into a really intense debate on a minor point of some esoteric historical document that nobody else has head of. No one quite dares interrupt.

They debate whether it’s worse to have the sneaky audacious insane little git as your cousin or your king, and conclude it’s a tie - but Ivan wins for overall worst life because his other cousin is Gregor “Let’s see what happens” Vorbarra.

Gregor and Attolia hesitantly comforting each other with “ruling is really hard and my family sucked, too” stories?

I’ve been putting this bullet point off because yeah OBVIOUSLY Gen and Miles get along like a house on fire. As in, any house they’re in together is likely to be burnt down within a couple hours - though whether it’s because they Hatched a Scheme or because they started getting competitive is up in the air.

who am I kidding, they totally get competitive

but not directly. this is a “drinking and talking” evening, and it’ll take a while for them to break out of that (they’re being polite.) so obviously they’re just telling increasingly dramatic stories of their own exploits.

like, pretended to be commonborn, got thrown in jail, went on a weeks-long trip to steal from the magus and the gods themselves? pretended to be a random POW to get thown into hell and airlift out the entire camp. brought down Erondites - brought down Vordrozda, and coopted an entire mercenary fleet. Psh, they didn’t even know you. Gen won the Attolian Royal Guard and they all hated him to start with.

you can bet they end up arguing who’s wife is more beautiful and fearless and strong and amazing in every way. Ekaterin and Attolia are thankfully across the room and oblivious, but Eddis overhears and snickers for like a week

Miles is telling the story of how one time he pointed a plasma cannon at Gregor and threatened to blow him to smithereens and Gen scoffs like, “Obviously you weren’t going to. One time Sophos actually shot an ambassador.”

Sophos has been sitting there the entire time, listening excitedly and feeling awkward because he has nothing to add. But Miles turns to him instantly like “No kidding? Tell!” so he reluctantly does - and then the whole story of being a slave and saving his father and all that, and then retelling the story of Gen and Hamiathes’ Gift…because Gen tends to leave out just how annoying he was the whole time…

re: yaoi manga, I think it's an effort to make it look hella masculine? men have wide shoulders? let's make them WIDER. big hands? let's make them BIGGER. squares and sharp angles are masculine? let's make everything as square as possible. I think it's boring and ugly, but I'm p sure that's what's going on w/ that wonky art

But I mean, for example western comic books tend to also try to make their characters ultra macho, but they do it way differently...

Probably in bits and pieces, yeah! I mostly love it so far, but also if I got superpowers it would definitely be this exact thing. It would be an accident that almost killed me, and then repeatedly fucking up when I try to be a hero ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

do you have any tips on dealing w/ this? I chew on cloth, and I switched to chewing my nails instead of my own clothes as a kid, but I still end up chewing on blankets/towels/etc and ruining them :/

We have a chewing tag, and chewy stim toys could be helpful if you can find the right texture.

November Commissions: @albaoaurora

A fully finished piece for Alba of their merman, Mateo! The fish part is based off a Spotted Drum, a delightful little reef fish. First time I’ve drawn a merman, I think he turned out quie well.
