Hey there ! I was wondering if you had tips for ink painting? (like how not to get those overlaying brush strokes things?) :) Thank you

My high school art teacher’s advice for that was to wet the paper a little before drawing, just run over it lightly with a wet, clean sponge so it’d be a bit humid (obviously not to get it super wet, either). Also, if you use China ink or Indian ink, it won’t mix a second time if for example you  go over a dark line with delayed ink that you wanna use to make a shadow or something ; but if you use something like black Colorex ink, it mixes again. So, choose your weapon knowing that.

Also : actual ink brushes (not just any painting brushes that you’d happen to use for ink as well) are a worthy investment, they retain the ink much better than common brushes, so you have to dip it in the ink less often and it makes pretty lines on your paper for longer while you’re drawing.

Of course! I’ll be honest here and say he was one of the trial options (that’s what I played on first) so he’s not super fancy or anything but I’m too attached to start again :D

well in the default world state, hawke is a mage who sides with the mages at the end of the game (but kills anders....) and siding with the mages is how you end up killing fenris ... unless you have full friendship or rivalry which. idk

Hey ! I've seen you talking several times about it, so can I ask in what the dragon age fandom is so shitty?

Ah... a lot, unfortunately. :/ This is the only fandom I’ve ever actively participated in so I can’t say how it compares to others -- I know pretty much all fandoms can be shitty to some degree -- but the DA fandom in particular has... a bunch of issues. 

Ableism, particularly towards neurodivergent & mentally ill characters. The most recent thing I wrote about it is here -- people say some really ableist -- often violently ableist -- things about Anders, who is actually canonically mentally ill -- his writer said she wrote him as bipolar, and it was a really ableist portrayal and she said some really gross things about bipolar disorder, but he is canonically bipolar and a lot of people erase it or villainize him for it, say he deserves to die for being “crazy”, etc. Unsurprising that the fandom is awful toward neurodivergent people, since the games use stigmatizing language, demonize mental illness, and frequently encourage or require the player to use violence against coded-as-neurodivergent characters. Also, lots of infantilization of certain neurodivergent/coded-as-neurodivergent characters like Merrill, Cole, and Sandal.

A lot of abuse apologism (I see a LOT of this when people make pro-Circle and pro-templar arguments), silencing & talking over survivors/victims of abuse, invalidating triggers, erasing or minimizing the experiences of various characters who are victims/survivors, etc. -- generally speaking, this fandom is pretty unsafe toward survivors & neurodivergent people in particular, from what I’ve seen, and it’s why I’m reeeeally particular about who I follow. 

Anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment -- e.g. straight people raising a fuss about bisexual Cassandra mods (to the point where the creator of the original bi Cass mod took it down due to so much harassment), people erasing bi/pan/multisexual LIs’ sexualities, people complaining that Dorian and Sera are gay, people harassing LGBTQ+ fans for having LGBTQ+ headcanons (I’ve personally gotten anon hate in my inbox for having trans/nb, ace, and aro headcanons).

Whitewashing and racism -- I’ve seen lots of whitewashed Fenris and Isabela fanart, ‘white Isabela’ mods, misogynoir toward Vivienne, etc. The games themselves engage in a lot of whitewashing so it’s not surprising that the fandom continues the trend, like it does with ableism. Misogyny -- holding female characters to different standards than male characters, ‘pretty Aveline’ mods, shaming Isabela for her sexuality (Zevran gets some of this too though), etc.

And... people just generally bending over backwards to excuse Bioware and the DA writers & devs when they fuck up and attacking people with legit criticisms of the games (like ableism, whitewashing, sexism, and abuse/oppression apologism).

Granted, these are problems that all fandoms probably have to some degree, but again, this is the only fandom I have personal experience with and these are just some of the things I’ve observed. tbh I’ve gotten more anon hate in the past year or so alone since I got into this fandom than I did in all the years prior I had been on Tumblr, and most of it has has been related to my comments about ableism in the games (particularly wrt Anders, who’s a character I relate to strongly as a neurodivergent person myself) and my LGBTQ+ headcanons (and sometimes my neurodivergent/disabled headcanons as well).
