“GIANT RABBIT”
by Mateu Velasco
Driving Portland blogger, Cyclotram, to draw a connection with the “not-very-scary 70s monster movie” Night of the Lepus, this huge rabbit has been haunting Portland’s Alberta St. since FFTTNW 2014 and shows little sign of relenting. With a steady stream of international street artists eventually making their way to the U.S. Velasco’s journey is a bit different. Born in New York City he left the country to spend the better part of his life in Rio as part of a vibrant Brazilian arts community, before eventually making his way back to Los Angeles. Graduating from one of Rio’s premier art and design universities, Pontificia Universidade Catolica, his classical skills have helped him transcend “common ideas of graffiti” enabling him to move easily between gallery, street, and illustration. Unlike Night of the Lepus, with a 10% Rotten Tomatoes rating, Velasco’s work has made him a much sought after talent among fans, collectors, and clients the world over. @mateuvelasco @ffttnw
