Alcinda sat quietly next to the fountain in front of the Cathedral. Reading her book as she did every time she came here, she would shoot glances above the pages at the great steps hoping to catch some sight of the paladin as he left. She tried hard not to let her worry show on her face, forcing a relaxed look as much as she could. It was because of that internal conflict that she did not hear the foot steps of the men coming up to her side.
“Ma’am,” a strong voice said to Alcinda, startling her slightly. She turned her head to see a large man in armor, wearing the tabard of the Cathedral, standing next to her with a younger man standing behind him.
“Good afternoon, sir,” she said, feigning a calmness that she definitely did not feel at the moment.
“Ma’am, my name is Amand Rignomer. I am a trainer here at the Cathedral.”
“No doubt your students are learning from the best,” Alcinda responded with a smile. She watched as Rignomer nodded, but his expression did not change. Her calm facade started to slip.
“Ma’am, one of my recruits says he thinks that you were present at an incident that happened in Elwynn Forest last week. I would like to speak with you about that, please.”
“I had nothing to do with that,” she blurted out before she was able to stop herself. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”
“That was not my assumption, ma’am. You were a witness to an attack and my hope was that you might be able to help our investigation.”
“I don’t know what I could offer,” Alcinda said as she closed her book and laid it on her lap.
“One never can tell, ma’am. If you would come with me please.”
She watched the paladin for a moment before glancing to the side. For the briefest of moments she considered fleeing, but discounted the idea almost immediately. The glanced back at Rignomer, but his face was still inscrutable and showed no sign that he had guessed her thoughts. With a quick sigh, Alcinda looked down and nodded.
“Thank you, ma’am. If you could come this way, please.”
