Legacy Equipment

Three Alco RS3s work the Amtrak facility in Chicago. Number 117 is ex-PC 5441, nee PRR 8441 (built November of 1953), number 125 is ex-PC 5502, nee NYC 8253 (built June of 1951), and number 122 is ex NH 523 (built August of 1950). The two SDP40Fs have recently had Phase II paint applied.

Alco at Work

Here’s an Alco RS3 working in the environs of Chicago Union Station. It is first seen shoving what seems to be the Southwest Limited down into the platforms. (I assume that much if not all of the train is ex-ATSF, including that interesting transition car, just in front of the high-level cars.)

After placing the train, the black Alco comes prancing out—it was built in 1950 for the New Haven, carrying the number 523.
