English: I started watching this novela, and there’s this character (Ale), who just came out to their mom as a lesbian (though there are hints that they might be trans, but that’s not known for sure quite yet). But watching this scene made me cry so much. Growing up, I never saw queer characters on television, much less any who also happened to be Mexican. And as someone who is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and Mexican, this meant so, so much.

Español: Empeze a ver esta novela, y hay un personaje en ella (Ale), quien acaba de salir del closet a su mamá como una lesbiana (aunque hay pistas que indican que tal vez sea transgénero, pero eso no se sabe por seguro aún). Pero viendo esta escena me hizo llorar mucho. Cuando yo era niña, jamás vi personajes en la televisión que fueran parte de la comunidad LGBTQ+, mucho menos unos que también fueran mexicanos. Y como alguien que es parte de la comunidad LGBTQ+ y mexicana, eso significó mucho para mí.
