GERMAN BOYFRIEND RELEASES DEBUT SINGLE

Jeremiah Ackermann has been writing music and refining his sound for half a decade—and though his most recent contributions come under multi-person configurations (Alea Rae, Violet), his first works were solo. The Vancouver-based artist is now revisiting these roots with german boyfriend and his debut release under the moniker, “we can’t work it out, not supposed to be with each other.”

Written while Ackermann was still in high school, “we can’t work it out” is a relationship tethered to heartbreak, paths pulling in opposite directions towards a space to grow. Gentle piano and Ackermann’s vocals swell through the 7 minute-long tune, with stirring lyricism (“This burden weighs more than I am made of through the wailing of the hills”) a definitive stand-out. Stream the new track below.

Alea Rae has also hit the studio to record their debut full-length album, which we can’t wait to hear!

PATRICK FARRUGIA RELEASES NEW EP

Patrick Farrugia has released his debut EP, Leave. Though firmly rooted in indie folk, the New Westminster-based artist elevates his sound with streaks of shoegaze and punk. “Heart Burns” is painfully evocative as Farrugia reiterates “My heart burns for you” over jangled guitar. In contrast to its title, the angsty “Hollow” builds to post punk instrumentals that could fill a stadium. The EP closes with “Silhouette,” a predominantly acoustic song that emanates such in simplicity and disconnected notes. Stream and purchase Leave below.

Farrugia is also the guitarist of local ambient folk trio Alea Rae, and experimental post rock outfit Violet. His debut single, “Leave” (which did not make the EP, ironically), was released in April. To keep up to date with Farrugia’s solo endeavors, visit his Facebook page.

ALEA RAE ANNOUNCE BC TOUR

The indie folk band released their split single, Flies & Lancaster, in July, and are currently working on new material. Side note, but they were also recently crowned the winners of our 2014 "Local Band / Musician of the Year!" Virtual high-fives all around.
