While viewing random clips of Maurice tonight I just discovered items I have been overlooking in the wedding scene! 

In the background snarky Simcox wanders with an intense death-face, like an old fish, glaring directly at Maurice until he passes out of shot. Maurice is oblivious of course, but even in this instance, the scene shows subtle, undetected, societal expectations poking and prying at our young hero. 

THEN, half a beat later when Maurice looks crestfallen, ALEC walks through the scene, a faded blur, a fuzzy influence, walking with the other under-servants, following the hierarchy of order. 

And everything arches with the motions of the characters, with the architecture. They’ve placed him center of a bridge showing  Maurice caught with a divided sensibility. This is his Hamlet moment: to follow through with his gut instinct or to die lonely.
