So.

Kiriona is dead and missing her heart, which the railing presumably destroyed. This will probably require fixing if we are to get a Griddlehark happy ending. And we know Harrowhark, despite her disdain for flesh magic, “had a knack for the aorta”.

So far so good. Fans have been speculating for a while about how Gideon might be brought back to life. It's the series about necromancy and star-crossed lesbians, after all.

However, John “committed” resurrection, and he knows “what price [he] had to pay”. Harrow's conception was a “kind of resurrection”, using the immense thanergy bloom of 200 kids dying.

It seems converting thanergy back into thalergy—is an immensely wasteful act, requiring lots of waste energy to be dispersed.

And so, bringing Gideon back to life might require paying a very high price.

“Of course I wouldn’t be worth it,” Harrow said scornfully. “I’m an abomination. […] But I’d do it again,” said the war crime. “I’d do it again, if I had to.

Tamsyn said Harrowhark was being tempted into giving up Gideon. First by her upbringing, then by her psychopomps and guides. And there will be one final temptation.

“They explained it to me when I was very young. I could draw the theorem mathematics, if you gave me some flimsy.”

MAN I JUST... I've said a bit offhand before but I hope Alecto is every bit as dumb as Nona, or ideally even dumber. In DnD terms I hope she has a Wisdom stat of 200 (two hundred) and an Intelligence stat of 3. I hope Gideon is so deeply validated in thinking of her as an ice lolly bimbo.

Like I hope she's perfect and powerful and incredibly competent at every task she can intuit and that covers a massive range of things but also aside from nature stuff she knows jack shit about fuck purely because she cannot be assed to learn. Humans complicate things too much and it's so boring. She's glad they're having fun for the most part but couldn't be her. And sometimes, anyway, here's the dead obvious answer you all overlooked while you were overthinking. That vibe. I want her to be every bit as beloved as Nona and a very active agent in the plot but just also be so so stupid.

And I just realized a few minutes ago what I've basically been wanting this whole time is.

I want. I want her to be. Dumb as a rock. I want— she's a... I'm. God I need this more than ever now, pleeeeaaaase.

I think it would be funny in Alecto, if we spend more time on the Ninth, for the great aunts to, very affectedly, inform Harrow of her parents' passing during their silent practice to which Harrow barelly even manages to act either surprised or mournful (while Kiriona has a fit of laughter nearby).

"And that makes you, Reverend Daughter Harrowhark Nonagesimus, our 311th Reverend Mother."

Freshly out of Hell and still dazed by whatever happend post tomb opening, Reverend Mother Harrowhark Nonagesimus, can urge no other reaction out of her but a slightly out of breath, shamefully informal "Ok."

Cue a pleathoa of mom jokes that everybody seems to get into.

"Reverend- forgive me Harrowhark, I cannot in good faith look at your face and call you-"

"Then please don't. Thank you, Paul."

"Oh, mother!" ejaculates Ianthe at her every movement.

"Oh, sorry mommy", Kiriona is already begging for it.

Worst things worst she is still, functionally, the last person ever born on the Ninth.

Look, we know Tazmuir likes to foreshadow in plain sight. Knowing that, how far do you think we'll get into Alecto before someone on the ninth takes a hammer to the oxygen -sealant machines?

Cuz it’s like. Ok. Right. In Nona there’s this whole thing about how like. What John did to Alecto was not lyctorhood. He’s using the life of a planet as a power source from the start but that power was given to him in the first place the betrayal was that he used it (used the earth itself!) to destroy all of humanity right. And it’s like of course John and Alecto are inextricably linked because well for one thing. That’s the fucking earth and John is a human being of COURSE he couldn’t live without the soul of the earth I would imagine that no human being could live if Alecto were to be destroyed! And similarly at this point John is the only person who REMEMBERS the earth so like. Yeah there’s that. But also I’ve seen things said about. How much of Alecto’s emotions are John’s? How much of John’s are Alectos? Are there rage’s feeding each other? Can John be calm because Alecto is angry? They are in separate bodies but we know that the soul is permeable and we know that the power of a planet is overwhelming and we know that it has been thousands of years. Even if she has been asleep for thousands of years she should be able to overwhelm him easily- the power is hers, isn’t it? They say that each of them can’t exist without the other but why is that? Does harrow knowing everything change things?

I’m so excited to read Alecto to get that perspective I’m sure it’s going to be wild. I wonder if we’ll get the story of how she was locked in the tomb? I wonder how that connection is going to play out.
