Episode 17: A Cool Summer
"So, why did you call me over?" Alejandro asked as they got all settled in. It wasn't a good or bad thing if the boss called you over, it was just a rare thing. He knew little of his boss and this was his first time getting called in to sit and chat.
"You know, when you first joined, I had such high hopes for you," Mathis said with a gentle smile.
"Oh?" Alejandro answered a little nervously.
"Yeah, I still do, but I thought you'd shoot up the ranks a little bit faster, I guess. I understand, a family takes a lot of ambition from a man."
"Yeah, yeah it does, and rightfully so, in my humble opinion sir," Alejandro said defensively. He hoped this wasn't what was holding him back. If it was, he'd choose his family first. Always. "I've sacrificed a lot to-"
Mr. Mathis laugh cut him off. "Don't worry, I'm not judging, I have a wife and daughter myself. They are what drives me to do my best, in the end, what I do keeps them safe.”
"I understand, Mr. Mathis."
"Yes, I think you do. So, I just wanted to personally congratulate you. You're a full-time agent now and I hope you know what that means?"
"It means excitement and danger and I've always looked forward to that."
