We first posted about Possible Humans back in 2017, but I think I first purchased their work in 2019 when Hobbies Galore released their debut LP. Back then I mentioned how their work reminded me of Meat Puppets and major label era Camper Van Beethoven.

"Standing Around Alive" is the new LP from Possible Humans. Their label is still Hobbies Galore, and I still hear sounds similar to those from their debut LP. I might add other Aussie bands like Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever to the comps list. 1980s era Mekons deserves to be mentioned as a touchstone too.

Possible Humans (Melbourne, Australia) are a brotherly affair - there are three Hewitt brothers in the band. Of these brothers, Adam has also played in The Stroppies.

Alex Macfarlane helped record this and Mikey Young mastered it. "Slouching Hat" might be up for song of the year.

Mi stavo perdendo dentro i testi di Everybody Split, il disco d'esordio dei Possible Humans, ed era una lettura inspiegabilmente appagante, che assomigliava più a un lasciarsi andare alla deriva, di immagine in immagine, trasportati dalle fitte trame di chitarre e dai nonsensi. Era un po' come se quell'inafferrabile flusso di coscienza riflettesse la struttura stessa delle canzoni, il loro scorrere libero ma non scomposto, tra riff che emergono d'improvviso, acuti e taglienti, per poi dilatarsi, dileguarsi e mutare in altri colori...

I’m leaving the fraction.  I love that Tumblr defaults to “popular” fractions...

For a while there it seemed like I was posting an Australian nearly every other day.  I think I’ve controlled my habit.  I might be down to once a week.

Possible Humans is a Melbourne, Australia band.  They are releasing their debut LP on Hobbies Galore (also Melbourne based).  I’m pretty sure this label is run by Alex Macfarlane (The Stevens).

But Possible Humans have a Meat Puppets/Camper Van Beethoven vibe.  There is only one song available (”The Thumps”), and it’s outstanding.

Hobbies Galore is a label out of Melbourne, Australia.  It is run by Alex MacFarlane (The Stevens, Twerps).  The Stroppies released a cassette on the label less than a year ago; this band features one of my favorite musicians/people - Steph Hughes (Dick Diver, Boomgates). 

Enough with the name dropping because this Stroppies release doesn’t really sound a lot like the first one.  While the noodling guitar lines (The Bats) are there, this is a bit less melodic but every bit as listenable.

This is limited to 300 7″ copies.

Hobbies Galore is a Melbourne based cassette-only (for now) label run by Alex Macfarlane (The Stevens, Twerps).  Of their eight releases, I’ve bought four.  This particular cassette is the 2017 offering from Macfarlane himself.

There are a lot of different sounds here, but I do liked the warped pop sensibilities a la The Moles/Richard Davies, Cleaners from Venus or Tobin Sprout.
