Alexander Sergeev
Alexander Sergeev has just been promoted to Principal
Way overdue! I thought it would never happen to be honest. My thinking was after two decades at the Mariinsky that ship had sailed, so it warms my heart that he’s been given this recognition. But why not an on-stage promotion in front of an audience?? That would be so fitting for an artist who is a so beloved by theatre goers and global audiences alike!! ✨

Over the years I've seen a few videos of Alexander Sergeev in this particular Espada variation and I've enjoyed them all. He's always stood out to me.
This is the best video I've been able to find.. from 11 years ago! I wonder where the other ones have disappeared to in cyberspace. Anyway, I think he's great.
Ekaterina Kondaurova in Jewels.
On March 5, 2013, the prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre, Ekaterina Kondaurova performed all three parts of Jewels: Emeralds, Rubies, and Diamonds. She is the first and only Mariinsky ballerina to do so. Her partners are Andrey Ermakov in Emeralds, Alexander Sergeyev in Rubies, and Yevgeny Ivanchenko in Diamonds.

If you could choose 5 first soloist to become a principal at Mariinsky who would you choose? And how do you think the theater will? For example: first ballerina and then... I honestly think no one is at a principal level, but if so then would be Osmolkina.
Honestly? I'm not sure I have 5 names to write? I think Stepin should have been promoted years ago, that's a no-brainer. For Osmolkina, you could argue that she should have gone up during that period about 5ish years ago when basically all of the MT principals were dying and she and Novikova were dancing everything. Those are the only two that I think should/could already be principals right now.
I'd like to see Batoeva go up, but I think she'd need to dance a couple of big classics missing from her rep to be seriously considered (Nikiya, Raymonda, Medora or even something like the Sylph are the biggest holes). Shakirova certainly has the dramatic flair but needs even more debuts than Batoeva, and is fighting more stingy typecasting. Khoreva is a when not an if, but I'm hoping they hold off a few more years. The rest of the first soloists either need more time or have been passed by IMO. A special mention to R. Belyakov, who should have gotten promoted years ago for his strong lines and good partnering but management likes to pretend he doesn't exist and he's still at 2nd soloist, living under a rock.
