alexclaire for @deadlycastiel
When Claire storms into a vampire nest and deals with all of its undead inhabitants, she’s surprised to find a human named Alex locked in a bedroom. Claire is suspicious of Alex at first, not trusting her not to turn on her - both in a vampire-y way and in a betrayal way. But as time goes on, Claire realizes she thinks of Alex as a friend. Yeah, definitely a friend. She doesn’t want to kiss her at all. Nope.

Clairesat on the deck, her feet dangling in the water. She just sat there, watching as each movement of her legs caused ripples. It was so familiar, doing this. It was so familar to be ignoring her feelings and isolating herself from everything. After all, this was something she’d started doing as a child. She’d grown up coming to the water when she needed comfort or her feelings became too much to handle.
Her father had passed it on to her. He had been the one to tell her that the water calmed him down, anchored him. Claire remembered endless summers during which they’d walkedaround in every park they passed, during which they talked non stop. Sometimes, just her mother being there changed their conversations, sometimes Jimmy fell silent when he knew she was there.
Jimmy. Her father no longer was ‘dad’ when she thought about him. He was Jimmy Novak, theguy with Faith and trust in God; the manwho only wanted to do good in his life. The person who had taken her to Church onSundays and taught her how to pray. The guy who had told her that life nevergave you more than you could handle. He had been the one to give her her first rosary and told her to cherish it.

Claire didn’t know when she’d grown fond of the history buff; if it was after bumping into her at the library or when she realized she was in a couple of her classes. What she did know was that somewhere along the way, her friends became Alex’s friends and Alex’s friends became hers. She knew that Alex’s mother loved roses and that Jimmy – her father – thought Alex was sweet and kind.
She knew that Alex loved her eggs scrambled with toast and that she always slept in during the weekends. Alex took care of her; put her to bed when she was ill and read her outrageous letters from founding fathers as a source of amusement. Alex drank her coffee with milk and preferably while reading a book.
Their first trip together was to an old Victorian house where they spend an entire week pretending to be in the eighteenth century and enjoying their time together. It was there that Claire opened up about being aromantic and it was also there that Alex admitted she fell somewhere on that spectrum on top of being ace.
It was there - while sleeping turned to each other - that they realized that love and life weren't what people sought for; that it could be this. Love could be affection and fondness, kisses and hand holding could be platonic, just as much as hugging or sharing a bed was nothing sexual or romantic.
For Claire, the realization was like coming up for breath and perhaps it was for Alex too. There was no pretending, no repressing; it was them.

Alex and Claire had been studying what felt like hours. After the months of being absent from school, the workload almost felt like drowning. Alex was great about it, really.
Without her help, Claire doubted she would be as far progressed as she was. Alex was great at explaining, helping her out. Just as she was with so many more things; with helping Jody out and putting up with people’s bullshit. Alex had been so sweet and caring with Jody, helping out with the dishes and cleaning, going shopping.

Okay, so maybe this camping thing hadn’t been such a bad idea after all. Alex got to talk and be around Claire, got to wake up with her arms slung across her waist and they finally got the quality time they deserved. No hunting for Claire and school for her. No stress or worries, just them, nature and too many sneaky snapchat pictures for Jody.

Claire lost her father to the angel Castiel years ago. He was whisked away from their lives and killed, as if he'd never even existed. Her mother, ladend with grieve, became an absence in her life as much as her father.
Yet, life was treating them well. Claire had Alex; wonderful and kind Alex who had somehow managed to love her. Who spend her days snuggled in bed with her, who was always open to visiting churches and sometimes even sit in for a service with her. Alex with whom silence never felt uncomfortable, who knew that sometimes, Claire got sad and needed to have the physical reassurance she was still there.
Claire just wished that it was enough to still her hunger. She would get her revenge on the angel that took her father away; she’d tear him apart at the essence of his Grace if that was what it took.
The cashier squints at the bill. “Thirteen seventy two?” he says.
“Yeah.” Claire already has the money ready, so she looks around as he pecks the numbers into the register. Alex is still sitting at their booth, face ashen, forearms scratched up from the last hunt they were on. Her plate is still mostly full. Claire thinks she’s coming down with a cold or the flu, but anytime she says something to that effect, Alex glares, points a sharp weapon in her direction, and tells her to drop the subject.
“Okay, thirteen seventy two.”
Claire drops a ten and four ones into the man’s leathery hand. He counts them, puts them in the register, and slowly gathers Claire’s change.
“There you go, missy. Thanks for eating with us. Have a nice day.”
“Yeah, you too.” She tries to say it nicely, and she feels an unfriendly smirk on her lips. Missy. The guy might’ve been older than dirt and nice to boot, but missy? If he didn’t look like he’d have a heart attack at the slightest hint of aggression, Claire would’ve at least left him with a clever retort.
She weaves her way through the brunch crowd back to her’s and Alex’s table. Except to push it around her plate, Alex has hardly touched her food.
Claire frowns. “Did I just waste six dollars so you can push your eggs around?”
Alex looks up. A ghost of a smile hovers on her lips. “Probably.”
Sighing, Claire sits back down opposite of Alex. “Should we get a carryout box?”
“Be my guest,” Alex says, gesturing vaguely at the plate.
