Hello yes I need your opinion on something. Okay so remember how in the Vast Fields of Ordinary, Dade dyes his hair brown and then has sex with Pablo and Pablo finishes and then just goes "I liked you better blond"? Well I believe that that's because Judy has brown hair and part of the appeal for Pablo is that Dade isn't Judy. Do you think this connection is a stretch?

Ok so I haven't read The Vast Fields of Ordinary for a long time so I'm a little shady on explicit plot details and such, and don't actually remember that part...

But yes, I totally agree with you! I feel like a key point with Pablo is that he kept his two 'lives' separate in his own mind, and the less similar Dade and Judy are the better, because if Dade looks even a little like Judy then it would remind Pablo that he does have a girlfriend, and he's cheating on her with a guy. When he's with Dade, he can kinda forget the conflict around his sexuality, so he doesn't want anything there to make him remember. 

He probably wouldn't realise the connection and would put it down to an aesthetic thing, but to the reader I think it's a perfectly valid interpretation :)
