Garreg Mach is a war school—Leanne knew this coming in, but being sent on a mission so quickly after being accepted still comes as a surprise to her. It’s exciting, though, being able to help others with her own two hands! She imagines Reyson isn’t thrilled at this, but that’s alright. She can come back a hero, and prove to him that she can take care of herself!
Strange magic lands her in a book, a tale that takes place on the high seas. A King seeks his lost Queen, calling all who dare to find her. The riches beyond one’s wildest imagination are tempting, yes, but Leanne feels a sympathy for the monarch that runs deep in her soul; not long ago, she was the missing family member, and was reunited with those most precious to her. This may be a storybook, yes, but everyone here still looks like flesh and blood, has their own thoughts. Maybe their world is a storybook to them!
Leanne has been assigned teammates for this. Two people she doesn’t know, but is glad to get acquainted with! One is named Alfonse, a dark-haired, tall young man who’s also a student, though from a different house. He seems very kind and dutiful, but his heart sings a song of distance. The other is Vaida, a lady knight with short blond hair who has both a strong body and a strong personality. She acts mean, but Leanne is sure that’s not all there is to her—and to be quite honest, she is determined to get to know her better!
Somehow, a brief conversation results in Leanne transforming into heron form on Vaida’s request. She warns the woman that heron laguz are much larger than a typical bird, but she scoffs and easily takes her on her shoulder. Okay!
Ships! They need a ship if they are to find the queen. Tibarn and Nealuchi have chartered ships for her before, but they have the authority of laguz nations on their side, so this one might be a bit trickier. Still, she must do her best. She eyes the shipyards, seeking someone who feels trustworthy, and her gaze settles upon a scruffy sailor with curly black hair and warm yellow eyes. This seems right!
"Hello! We are looking for a ship and crew to help us on our mission!" Leanne's voice rings clear, and does not sound like some bird's imitation of a human. She and Vaida are a comical sight; a woman dressed in ship-ready garb, with a very large white heron atop her shoulder. And Leanne is the one doing the talking!
"Your mission?" the sailor replies, clearly skeptical. He frowns, looking to Vaida and addressing her instead. "Lady, your bird's weird."
