can't believe there were reviews of this bridgerton season complaining that it's bad because it interrupts an otherwise good love story with way too many sideplots like are they not paying attention every story on this show IS a love story and i couldn't be more thrilled with how they're handling them. the fact that they let queen charlotte and agatha have that entire exchange with no words at all? chef's kiss. better than i expected. no notes. this is a show about love and this is a season about love and i take my love in every form as long as it's delivered with joy and on bridgerton even the painful kinds are so i am satisfied thanks
listen i've loved rufus sewell basically my whole damn life but on the diplomat he brings the manic energy of josh lyman and the jagged edged experience of leo mcgarry and he smashes them together to make a chaos gremlin husband trying to fairy godmother his wife into the presidency and i cannot explain to you why that works so well for me but boy it really does
god i just love benedict so freaking much. he needs sophie to understand and accept his history with men if he's going to commit to her, and he can stand there with ten toes down going against not just his mother who he knows loves him and means well but also his forever noble older brother who chose the proper life he was supposed to, and benedict can listen to everyone tell him over and over again why he doesn't belong with sophie and why they can never have the life he believes they deserve...and it doesn't budge him an inch from knowing he's right and they're wrong, because he's not trying to convince anyone that they've found some loophole that will change the rules of society. he just believes society is wrong and made up and HE'S RIGHT AND HE SHOULD SAY IT. he may not be able to change things for them through sheer force of his heart, but damn if he isn't willing to try.
brimley spilling over with devotion and agatha so torn between aggrieved affection and desperate selfish need she can't stand still they're both out here making me cry
i love that sad puppy benedict is even more appealing than sad tormented anthony was because benedict has always been affable and light on the surface and never had that uptight haughty quality of his brother's...so no matter how pathetic he is in his pining, he's just still so sweet and cute and i'm rooting for him
well i will say that their heartbreak is the most believable i've seen from both sides of a bridgerton love story so far, and that's not an insult to the others who came before. benedict and sophie are just out here making it hurt to watch them hurt, and i think it's because benedict's always been a messy open book with his feelings on the table for the world to see so he breaks in front of her even as she's the one doing the breaking. but we know all of sophie's reasons for trying to stay safe and protected so it's just as wrenching to know she's holding it in, until she stops trying and then we're witnessing her devastation and it is just. a lot.
benedict packs so much emotion into those three words, it's i love you even though it isn't. i had to rewatch that part just for the tears in his throat
