AU cassiuses and misc silhouette doodles. i have totally upended silhouette so that's a bit in limbo but i'm getting my footing... in the meantime...look at cassius ifhe was a fucked up bird. or alien goat. yea
In my constant and unending pursuit of trying to figure out good toyhou.se icons i'm content with, I went a little insane and created Big Images for Alice (she's being needing one since ever...) and Cassius (who desperately needed a new rendition). Edit: AND NOW EDGAR GETS A COOL REDO!
rambling about the images under the cut he he he.
As a bit of a preface the background colours (Blue, red, yellowww...?) sort of do have meanings... In a way? Blue = Avoidance, escapism, "Losing yourself in something else", Red = mostly just anger and frustration, "taking action". Yellow is a very new addition to this sort of dichotomy so I haven't really decided what it COULD mean? I sort of had the thought that it would mean like recovery or "redemption", or just like, "idealisation" maybe, but idk. that's up in the air... I also sort of have no real idea if these are just like common perceptions of these colours in art or whatever I D K!!! But in my art, the vivid blue and red seen there will more or less always mean that stuff.
So anyway!... Alice's piece is very red, right. She's the most "active" character out of the main 3 - she's the one who's actively trying to research some sort of cure for the Shadow. She's absolutely convinced it's the source of 99% of her (and the others') problems - expressed (hopefully...) by the black swirls in the background. But her methodology sort of sucks and she isn't finding anything out (she's actually looking in the complete wrong place, "represented" by the tentacles...) and in a way is avoiding actually confronting her actual problem (transgenderism... and... the nefarious jealousy and cruelty) which the little blue swirls by her head are meant to show. The choice of lyric ("I decide there's nothing in my body" / "How can I be sure there's nothing in my body?") from Luddites and Lambs by Everything Everything I think describes her stress really well. Her feelings about the Shadow mostly revolve as a "foreign third party" in her body which has the capability of controlling her thoughts. It freaks her out to the max... I could go on for longer but I shan't.............. For alice anyway HAHAHA
Cassius' piece is relatively simpler, but I realised that in the other two's Big Images, pre-exile Cassius is included* in a big, meaningful way
*not in the Edgar Big Image shown in this post, but this one:
So I thought, "I should just put him against that one", like... His pre-exile self, this echo of himself, from what he can remember (which is to say not really much of anything at all) and how people treat him or talk about him, it's like, he seemed so... swell! He seemed like the perfect guy! Then there's him NOW, this beastly, vile thing. He loves no plays. He hears no music. Seldom he smiles and smiles in such a sort as if he mocked himself and scorned his spirit that could be moved to smile at anything!!!!!!!!!!!!! So anyway I wanted to have him in there because of that. The pre-exile echo seems to be a Thing going on here. The inclusion of Edgar and Alice here too was sort of under a similar thought process: Cassius appears in the other images, they should appear in his, to be truthful. And it's not like they didn't have an impact on him, so, like, it makes a lot of sense I think. And they're very... antithetical to each other (for lack of a better word?) Like on Edgar's side it's this nice, cohesive image of the lighthouse, and the sea, and there's birds, and the sun is shining. It's nice! But then you see Alice's side - the dagger! The blood! The distress! The waves there are "cartoonish", unreal, a plaster over a bigger Thing. I think it's cool. The lyric(s) chosen here were honestly a bit of a doozy. Less clear-cut than Alice's or Edgar's, but "Redemption comes in the form of a joke, there isn't any, but we still have hope!", coming from Behind the Curtain by Treeboy & Arc. That song is perhaps The Most (Pre-exile) Cassius Song Ever, but that specific lyric at the very least works with post-exile cassius insofar as he's very deep into the idea that he's irredeemable, but despite that continues to try to redeem himself, sort of. It's what he WANTS, but he can never "manage to do so", because he always gets snappy or cruel in some way at some point. So he sort of just sits and stresses about it for ever. Sort of sucks....
Edgar's image I've got less to say on since he's sort of less "complicated" compared to the others - the image shows edgar, sort of blending in with the background (or at least not really standing out? he's very "shaded") as cassius (as he was years ago) is presented in a bright mirror with a halo expanding out in all directions from him. But the mirror is cracked and shattering with cassius, as he is now, peeking through a hole - expressing how he is breaking edgar's perception of him (which is rooted in an ideal version of cassius that no longer really exists... or, really ever existed). the lyric "I will eat you alive" from Where I End and You Begin by Radiohead was chosen partially because that was just the Edgar Song/Lyric to me. to be completely truthful I'm not sure how to explain how it relates. He will eat him alive trust (eating as not literally Eating Him With His Teeth, but like, 'eat' as in 'never be separated from', in the funny way that some people describe cannibalism as 'i eat you so we'll never be separate again', except like, again, no actual eating is happening? whatever he will eat him alive trust)
also some more miscellaneous things, mostly cosmosdex stuff where i turned them all into unnatural humans (seg and corbiere too for funsies). the uncoloured sketches arent actually of unnatural cassius but of another odd au cassius which is kinda funny...
