'The Lovely Bones' by Alice Sebold was such an incredibly sickening read that I wish I could have read it when I was older (NOT 16 - a pretty fucked up book to read at that age, thanks college). There are some parts of it that I still think about to this day. I sometimes get emotional about the events of the book. I hate that Susie's parents never truly found out what happened to her, but also I'm so fucking glad they didn't because it was just fucking horrible.

The Lovely Bones

rating ~ ★★★✩✩ (2.5)

favorite character ~ Ruth

least favorite character ~ George Harvey

notes: (Mr Harvey is the obvious answer, but of the "normal" people, it's Abigail Salmon) This book started off so strong & promising then just got so dull, if not weird.. Did Susie seriously possess Ruth just to "make love" to Ray? Why did Ray not immediately ask about the details of her death? I hate that her body was never found and that Mr Harvey was never caught. They were on his ass so many times and even had proof sometimes but ... nothing ever came of it somehow?? Also their POS mother did not deserve to have her name passed down to Lindsey's daughter. Yeah she was going through it too but like you're a mother, you figure your shit out and be there for your kids, idc. Also maybe don't have an affair with the man investigating your child's murder?? I'm probably just missing some huge underlying poetic message or whatever but idk, this book was kind of a let down
