PAMELA AND HOW SHE IS PROTECTIVE OF THOSE SHE LOVES

Oh lord. I’m going to try to be concise with this.

Pamela has a near infinite capacity for love and caring and patience, and once you’ve proven to her that you are deserving of that love or if you’re lucky enough to be born into it, it’s hard to do something that will shake it. This aspect of her comes from her past as Pleione because when you’re a sister and a mother of so many, it’s nearly impossible not to have such a large heart.

If you are one of the few that she’s devoted such emotion to, you’re lucky because she will do everything in her power to see you happy and safe regardless of what harm it may cause her or sacrifice she must make. She doesn’t care for herself or her own feelings nearly as much as she does for the people she loves, and if you endanger them or hurt them, she intends to find you and make you pay in the most excruciating way possible. She is a mama bear in every sense of the word.

She’ll do whatever she thinks is best even if the person she’s trying to protect doesn’t necessarily agree with her, which is a fault of her protective nature. She does think she knows best, probably because she’s spent so long looking out for people. She’ll take these tiny things like Clara having a crush on a boy and make a mountain out of a molehill because she doesn’t want to see her get hurt and Pamela likes to think she knows how men are since she’s spent the past few years sailing with several.

Part of her protectiveness though, is because she’s afraid of losing the people she loves. If all of them suddenly disappeared, she wouldn’t know what to do with herself because she dedicates her life to them more than she does to herself. The idea of losing them scares her silly, so she clings to them too tightly and her protectiveness can actually scare them away which makes her cling tighter. It’s a vicious cycle and she recognizes it (which is why she’s trying hard to give Clara her space) but she can’t help being over involved.

[The Chase] : Alice & Godric

He was waiting for Alice―unfortunately all he seemed to do these days was wait, but he had decided to wait, take some time, instead of being rash. Godric had watched the fall of many great men, none as wealthy or powerful as him, but still, and most of the times it had been cases of reckless action. He gets up from his chair and begins to take small paces around the room, his brow settling into its deep furrow, which seemed to be his only expression these days. Godric had not been getting any sleep or rest since the riots had begun and though he did not admit it, it was building up on him. The sole reason he was able to keep going on was the thought that all the commotion was his fault, his fault for not being able to take care of matters more swiftly. Also, he had known since the day he had failed to dispose of Hadrian Leclair that something along these lines. He was not unnecessarily optimistic or pessimistic about anything, his job was to deal with the workings of the state and money in the most neutral way and he missed the days when the most dramatic thing in his life was a merchant with debts up to his chin.

The door opens and he does not turn his head. “Speak of your troubles, though I doubt they are bigger than any one of mine.”

It had been a rough couple of days for Hadrian. The riot was something he had not anticipated as it was not something planned by the Titans-- or at least he hoped it wasn’t. It was guilt that caused Hadrian to think this way, as he didn’t want to believe that a group he stood beside would be responsible for the death of the knights he once considered brothers and sisters; he didn’t want their blood on his hands, but it was naive of him to believe that in the midst of a civil war things would be so black and white or as simple as having a single side tilting towards the “right” side.

Though this riot was not planned by Caelan and the Titans, it served as a wake-up call that death was inevitable, betrayal was inevitable, tragedies like these were going to be inevitable if they ever wanted to find peace again, and soon enough Hadrian would have to come to terms with the fact that it was him against them and nothing else. He was no longer a knight, and the people he once considered friends were now his enemies if they chose to stand beside a false King. Eventually that concept would sink in, but in the moment it was a difficult notion for him to grasp as he was not entirely ready to grasp it just yet. 

Though he was not welcomed, Hadrian had made an effort to visit the graves of his fallen friends well after their funerals and after their families left the cemetaries. It would not have sat right with him if he had not paid his respects and declared his apologies even if there was no one on the other side who wanted to hear them. It was because of this that he found himself coming home so late. It was not exactly his home so much as a home he was forced into after losing his knighthood and all his titles. It was a place in the outskirts of Albion, one that was hardly large enough to house the servants he once had when he was still considered a lord and still had noble claims to his family’s wealth, but it was enough to keep him sheltered and it was a place kept away from the knowledge of those who would wish to harm him-- or so he thought. 

As soon as he stepped past his fence, the atmosphere felt different. In the darkness his sight was obscured, but he could have sworn he heard noises coming from the trees surrounding his little cottage. Perhaps it’s rabbit, he thought, but still kept his hand secured on the hilt of his blade which he always had at the ready on his side, scoping out the area as he fiddled with his locks only to find that they were already unlocked. His body tensed and he tried to think back to early that morning and whether or not he remembered to lock his doors; it would not have been unlike him to forget such things when his mind was constantly jumping to the next step, never really settling in one thought or one task for too long. 

He stepped inside, still tensed and still uneasy, a feeling that became commonplace nowadays. He waited and listened for a few moments for any signs of movement or that someone had broken into his home before he allowed himself to let his guard down and head towards the kitchen to fetch himself a drink of water, hoping that would calm him down and cool him off. It was then that he heard the sound of chainmail and heavy steps heading towards him in the dark. His initial instinct was to turn and face them with his sword unsheathed, though perhaps it would have been wiser to run while he still could. Recognizing the figure as Alice did little to soothe his nerves, but he found himself lowering his weapon as there was still a sliver of hope that perhaps she was not here to do him harm and this encounter could still end with him walking away as she had let him once before. 

“Alice...” he greeted with a slight nod out of habit, before asking firmly, “What is your business here?” He was starting to think he had a pretty clear idea of that, and how she managed to find him in the first place perhaps would have been the better question to ask.
