I’ve been watching the first season of the original “Lost in Space”. These B&W episodes hold much much better than the later campy color ones.
Smith maintains his villainainy game through the 5th fifth episode, but here then they begin softening him. In the 6th episode he greedily puts everyone in danger for the love of diamonds. That episode ("My Friend, Mr. Nobody") focuses on Penny. While aimed at children, it still nicely done.
In the 8th episode (Invaders from the Fifth Dimension") a touch of Smith’s villainy returns. Some aliens need a human brain to operate their ship. Smith willing offers them Will. But in the end, Will’s human emotions (love) cause the alien ship to explode (but not before Will escapes).
