New theory time! So there’s been a couple of ideas thrown around about what’s going on with Max in the pod, whether the problem is that he’s just in pain, or if he’s connected to something bigger, or if his resurrection will trigger the Alighting.
But on a rewatch I noticed that Max says to Rosa in 2x02:
“I can’t take it any more. Just end it. It’s like... burning alive, from inside.”
I’ve been thinking about ‘alighting’ as in ‘landing’, but actually, there’s a second meaning for the word: “it can be a rather poetic way to describe something that's on fire (or “afire”).
So... what if the Alighting is not an external event, but an internal event/transformation within Max given his supposed role?
