Honestly I wouldn't be upset about the "lack of story/background" if the Grimoire were in the game itself. Having to go onto Bungie's website to read it all is what's really annoying to me. Were there somewhere in the Tower to read all the grimoire I'd've read all of it by now. Instead, admittedly I've not done anything with it, just watched some lore videos...
i feel u, this is something i’ve heard a lot of people say. i read all the grimoire on the companion app whenever i was bored and stuck on my phone ( gave me extra incentive to go ghost/calcified fragment hunting ) so that made it a little easier to access but that’s just me. i agree there should be a means of reading it in game tho. maybe like how they have kiosks for the exotic blueprints/sparrows/ships/shaders/etc. they could easily do the same with the grimoire. i really do recommend reading them though, most are pretty short and there are some that are incredibly well written, like i read them over and over. the books of sorrow in particular are really good.
