La Toussaint (All Saints) Cabbage Soup
Alas, I could not find a cabbage to steal, nor even one to be bought on All Hallows weekend, so I put off making this soup until around the full moon. I’m not huge on sticking rigidly to the little boxes on a modern calendar. Our ancestors would have been more likely to go by the moon, so I figured that at the full moon closest to All Hallows the veil would still be thin. Honestly, my husband and I celebrate spooky season until Three Kings Day—it’s pretty much impossible not to once you start digging into Central European folklore. Even in English folklore Christmas was associated with ghost stories.
I made a bowl for myself last night to taste test it before I’ll serve it to my Québécois ancestors tonight on the full moon. I made a few adjustments, using bacon instead of salt pork and using Herbs de Provence and bay leaf instead of salted herbs (all I had on hand was shiso). I also added garlic along with the onion. And I tarted it up for dinner, adding more protein by topping it with thin slices of provolone and broiling it, while I poached an egg with the egg poacher gifted to me by Granny Mary Lorraine Thibodeau Marlow (originally Marleau).
Thank you so much for introducing me to this charming custom and sharing the recipe @lesorciercanadien .
For 365 Days I have been protected from Evil by this lantern..

The one below just has a greyed background for text, so like i hope its better for the eyes 👍
I'm looking to revamp the Trick-or-Treat Village area playlist and also make a separate playlist for inside the candy shop. The current playlist, for reference, is this:
(Blippi's "Jack the Jack-o-Lantern," you'll notice, has been removed from Spotify access since I made this playlist, but I still consider it part of the loop.)
What I'm hoping to get is about an hour of kid-friendly (but not too cutesy) Halloween songs, especially ones about trick-or-treating and the kinds of characters you can meet in the village, and another 30 minutes or so of songs about candy. I definitely don't want anything produced by gen-AI!
Any help I can get from my followers would be appreciated!
(If I were able to build this park for real, I would of course compose, or hire someone to compose, unique songs for all the characters and probably put the album on iTunes. But alas.)
'Tis the Season
