Overwatch Horror Movies

Welcome to October -1st, where I remember to make a post about how each Overwatch character reacts to Horror Movies because it’s my passion.

If I call you out, tag yourself. That’s your government assigned kin.

Ana - Not her favorite Halloween activity, but she’ll watch them if the person she’s watching with is a screamer. She finds their fear more entertaining than the movie.

Ashe - Easily startled by jumpscares. A real Scream Queen. Her instinctual reaction is fists up. She’s knocked a few heads after getting startled.

Baptiste - Enjoys the cheesy, over the top with cliche horror movies. He’ll laugh though really anything but torture porn gorey garbage.

Bastion - Is baby, but doesn’t really have a sensor to understand the fear that he should be feeling. Gets PTSD flashbacks at too much gore and gunshot sounds.

Brigitte - Likes suspenseful movies that have a spooky atmosphere and a real story. She will punch a hole though the screen if she gets jumpscared.

D.Va - Laughs and says it’s just a movie and it’s such a dumb concept, but will become extra paranoid after Serial Killer/Slasher movies. She checks locks three times over, leaves all the lights on at night, and refuses to go anywhere after dark for about a week. However, horror games with the same premise have no effect on her.

Doomfist - Hates horror movies. Hates the choices protagonists in Horror movies make. Makes Talon agents write an essay on what to do if a serial killer is after you after seeing the dumb choices in Horror movies.

Echo - Don’t show her a movie with jumpscares! She will attempt to pull off scares of her own! While at first they’re jumping out from around corners, she’ll get better the more she does it. Brigitte will end up punching her.

Genji - Desensitized to gore and horror in general. Growing up around Spirit Dragons and then being trained by Spiritual Monks kind of ruin the whole scary ghosts thing for you.

Hanzo - Same as Genji on being desensitized to it all, but if a dog dies he will refuse to watch the rest of the movie.

Junkrat - Enjoys the gorey shit. The more horrid the better, he’ll probably laugh when someone gets their arm tore off. Easily freaked out by Zombie movies, though.

Lucio - Is Baby 2.0. An absolute coward, will spend 80% of the movie with his face buried in a pillow. Will need someone to share a room with a few nights afterwards.

McCree - Always found Ashe’s reaction to horror very funny, so he’d watch them with her. Discovering Gabriel Reyes had the same reactions was the best thing to ever happen in Blackwatch. Demon possession movies freak him out.

Mei - Is Baby the Third. Easily started, screams VERY loud. Spends the entire movie with her ears covered and eyes shut tight. Might cry.

Mercy - Being scared makes her angry. Something about the startle of a horror movie just pisses her off! She’ll jump and scream a little, then go into a rant on the movie’s horrid quality.

Moira - Finds her fellow veiwer’s reactions more interesting than the movie itself. Enjoys making snacks that fit the movie’s theme, and look uncomfortably like real fingers and eyeballs.

Orisa - Like Bastion, doesn’t fully understand what’s being scared is? She doesn’t like to watch them though, because she does not enjoy violence, and is worried Efi will see them. 

Pharah - Wasn’t allowed to watch any horror until she was 18, so she tried to make up for it all in one night, and immediately scarred herself. Violently refuses to watch anything scary ever again.

Reaper - He watches them for the aesthetic of it all, Halloween is his Holiday and he will partake in all Halloween related events, but he’s a coward. Ghost/Demon possession movies mess him up the worst.

Reinhardt - He’ll remind anyone who’s scared “It’s just a movie” and laugh. Get’s startled at a jumpscare, but nothing will actually stick with him. He’ll probably have something similar that happened to him to talk about after the movie though.

Roadhog - Doesn’t enjoy watching horror movies, especially gorey ones. Not because they scare him, but because he sees enough of that shit in his day to day life already.

Sigma - Does not react well to being scared. The existentialism of death and the eventual end horror movies promote can set him off on a tangent, and eventually lead to a break down.

Soldier 76 - Loved Slasher movies, found them thrilling. Nothing ever sticks with him after a movie, he’s very rational. He doesn’t believe in ghosts in the slightest.

Sombra - She doesn’t find any horror really all that great, it’s all very predictable. She might spend the entire movie nitpicking how boring it is.

Symmetra - Says she believes horror to be a waste of time. In reality as a kid she saw a few ending scenes of a really gorey horror movie that’s stuck with her ever sense.

Torbjorn - He’s seen enough real horrors, movies don’t effect him that much anymore. He never really pays attention to what’s on the TV anyway.

Tracer - Very, VERY easily startled. She blinks and recalls almost every jumpscare, and keeps her face covered during most scenes. Despite being a massive coward, Lena really enjoys scaring other people.

Windowmaker - As expected, not easily frightened. She finds a lot of horror to be exceedingly boring, and will probably fall asleep during the movie.

Winston - Easily swayed by movies. He clings onto others or a pillow when he’s scared, and will be on high alert the entire movie. Once it’s over though he can rationalize pretty easily, and move on.

Wrecking Ball - Gets really hyped over monster movies! If he’s watching alone, he’ll act out the scenes as they’re happening, especially as the monster.

Zarya - Not a fan of horror, but if her friends are watching them, she’ll join in. She’s typically the calming prescience for cowards to cling to and hide behind.

Zenyatta - Not his first choice, but he’ll watch with friends. If he gets too scared he’ll offer to refill snacks and drinks to give himself a moment away from the screen. He uses his Orb of Harmony to calm anyone frightened after the movie is over.

Dead serious, this is my favourite song in the whole show.

I mean, not only is it an awesome song, which perfectly embodies the fighting spirit you’ve got to have to combat Murphy’s Law, but I think it perfectly embodies what it takes to be a hero.

Sure, it has some quirky wording. It’s a Dwampyverse song, whaddya expect? But it also has some really epic lines too:

Though I’m not made of brick, you know that I’m not made of straw

I won’t fall into pieces with some fundamental flaw

I can take this all day long—I’m just coughing, I’m not choking

I may get beaten, but I’m never broken…

I fall down, yes, I’ll fall down but then

I get back up again

And see, THAT embodies heroism right there. Whether it’s cartoon heroes—like Milo and his friends, or the Duck Family, or Darkwing, or Rapunzel, or… you get the idea—or movie heroes—like Marty McFly and Doc, or Luke and Han and Leia, or the great superheroes—or book heroes—like hobbits or Pevensies or consulting detectives or Lunar-cyborgs—or literally any heroes, from epic knights or cowboys or spacemen even down to ice-cream-shop owners and janitors, what’s the one thing they all have in common?

Whenever they get beaten down, they get back up and, whether they win or lose, they fight for what’s right.

That’s exactly what this song’s about, you know, quirky wording and all. That’s why it’s so epic. And hey, the harder the fall, the greater the hero who gets back up from it, amirite?

And to be honest, that’s exactly what today’s all about. It’s a victory party, celebrating the Hero who, on His quest to save the world, got hit with literally every single thing that this world had to throw at Him, including death…

And then got back up again.

A Not-So-Chill Mission: Part 1/3

Mod Ten here, Mod Concerned and I are going to be out of Internet and cell service for a few days, but I wanted to toss this up on the blog! Still feel free to send us questions/comments/anything else and we’ll do what we can to answer!

Agent Jefferson stood in front of the group of heroes with a tablet in hand, swiping through the debriefing that the higher-ups had provided. “Alright. This is going to be your first mission all together. Not all of you are going to be in the main field for safety reasons, but those of you who are not in direct combat will be providing support from other areas. The villain you’ll be detaining goes by the name ‘The Professor of Ice.’”

“He’s got some pretty cool powers,” Agent Schott chimed in. The phrase evoked a small groan throughout the room, except for Riley.

“What a frigid reception,” they chuckled. Agent Schott beamed, and Agent Jefferson pinched the bridge of her nose with her free hand.

“Are you finished?” she asked.

“I have more, but I’ll put ‘em on ice,” Agent Schott replied with a lopsided grin.

“OK,”  Agent Jefferson sighed, “But yes, as the name implies, he has powers over ice. He may also have another power, but it isn’t offensively useful.”

“His sidekick,” Agent Schott added, “is Darkstorm, and she’s got at least shadow manipulation powers. We have a feeling she also has a sort of mind control and is likely the more dangerous of the two. But it’s gonna be alright, you kids are more than ready for this. Basically, we’re going to have two teams. Kira and Riley, Hakim, Kai, and I are going to get you into a secondary facility. We need information on how this power occurred and on what plans might be in action. The rest of you are going to be fighting the main villains. They’re planning to do something at a farm a good ways outside of town, so the potential for collateral damage is low. Bayleigh, you’re going to go with them to the main fight with the villain, but your job is primarily escape. If you get a distress signal from any of us in the secondary facility, drop everything and come get us.”

“Understood,” Bayleigh said with a nod.

“I understand why Kai is with Kira and me, but why is Hakim?” Riley asked.

“Out of all of the rest of you, his powers are best in close quarters. Bayleigh’s the exception to that, but she’s in the other group so that she can be more mobile if needed. Dakota, Haeun, Siham, Ace, and Skyler all have powers that either require room or variety,” Agent Jefferson responded. “Same with mine, for the most part.” Riley nodded their understanding.

“Everyone feel like they understand everything?” Schott asked. At a nod from everyone, he continued. “Alright, let’s suit up.”

The sound of keystrokes was all that broke the silence within the smaller facility as Riley and Kira worked with the computers. It hadn’t been difficult to get in; since the main villains were out, it was just a few grunts guarding the area. All were unconscious but one, who Kira had thoroughly restrained next to her. She fearfully provided passwords, so Riley and Kira didn’t have to do almost any actual hacking. It just took about half of Kira’s vines and a little bit of intimidation from Kai.

“Alright, there’s a bunch of plans here, and a lot of science shit that I don’t fully understand,” Riley murmured.

“Lots of c-c-climate research,” Kira added softly.

“Pull what you can,” Schott instructed. “We’ll evaluate it later at HQ, once you’re safe.”

“Already on it. Right now we’re mostly scrubbing any traces of what we did.” Riley continued to type as Kira shut her eyes and concentrated, doing her best to help. “OK, after I run this command they shouldn’t even know we were in the server. Should do just enough to erase the edit times and data like that. They won’t know exactly what we got.”

“Wh-what about her?” Kira lifted her vines a little to point at the woman she had tied up.

“She won’t know exactly what you got to,” Hakim added from across the room. “Besides, if everything goes to plan, the others should have taken out the villains anyway.”

“This is mostly informational and cautionary,” Schott affirmed. “Keep going, you two are doing great!” The two continued to hack, but after a moment, Kira jumped back.

“Th-th-there was input f-f-from somewhere,” she whispered. Riley leapt to action, typing away.

“One of the outer doors opened,” they announced a moment later.

“No one should have been able to get here this fast,” Hakim protested as he looked over Riley’s shoulder.

“So things aren’t going to plan. What a surprise,” Kai muttered as he prepared a gust of wind and positioned himself between Kira and the door.

“It’s going to be alright, keep calm. We can handle whoever it is,” Schott reassured.

“Oh, can you?” a sultry voice asked. All the room’s shadows seemed to move for a moment, none of them in a natural way. A figure seemed to be stepping between them, moving just too fast for anything to hit. “You underestimate me,” it purred. A tall, stick-thin figure appeared behind Agent Schott, one shadow claw gently tracing his jawline. It drew a small trickle of blood, but Agent Schott fell to the floor as if he’d been struck.

“What did you do to him?!” Hakim demanded of the figure, but the they only chuckled. Schott groaned, one hand grabbing at his head, and the figure’s long, shadowy claws grew longer, until they seemed to almost envelop Schott in a cocoon. Hakim’s telekinesis and Kira’s vines couldn’t touch it--they just went through. In an instant, the claws retracted, and Schott was yanked to his feet like a marionette on a string. When the heroes looked him in the eye, they couldn’t recognize a trace of the man that once was. The figure disappeared, and reappeared in the shadow of a doorway. Once it stepped forth from the shadows, it became clear that it was a woman, tall and thin, though not as much so as the shadow had been.

“Oh, remaining in the shadows does tire me so,” she chuckled. “So I must retreat and take care of your other friends. Take care of them, darling,” she called over her shoulder to Agent Schott before darting away. Agent Schott rolled his shoulders...and a moment later, lunged at Riley.
