I really do think Robert Redford and his life is a worthwhile thing to look at if what you are looking for is an example of positive masculinity--NOT PERFECTION. PLEASE STOP WITH ATTEMPTING TO PARAGON HUMAN BEINGS--but masculinity that is warm, that is about participation in his communities, that is about responsibility within the spheres of power & influence that he did have, and that's about being fun.

Above all things as an actor, even in serious roles, he's fun to watch.

I could recommend a bunch of his earlier films but they are classics for a reason and I'm sure they will get covered. Here are two of his recent films that you could watch--because it's amazing to watch people be masters of their craft after a LIFETIME of being great at it.

2018- The Old Man & the Gun

This is a caper film. It's fun. It makes great nods to his beautiful duo of caper films with Paul Newman. If you can't watch him flirt with Sissy Spacek and think 'he's still got it' (he's 82!), then I do not believe you when you tag shit 'that old man.' You do not have the courage of your convictions. (you have to rent this one--check your library!)

2013- All Is Lost

This is just him on a boat in extremity. He's fascinating. It's thrilling. It's beautiful, LIKE BEAUTIFULLY SHOT. I feel like movies are hardly ever this beautiful anymore. It's also--about the horrors of international container shipping. Redford never misses a shot at commenting on the environmental crisis we're facing. (You can watch this on for free on Tubi. If you're in firefox with good ad blockers you won't even have to watch ads.)
