I relate to you! I feel like I don’t ship people because they’re attractive - I ship them because of their dynamic. Like, it’s less “I want to watch y’all fuck” and it’s more “I want y’all to have this shared experienced because your energy is so HNNNGH and it’s a crime that it hasn’t happened in canon” lol!

Also on a related note, I now find Quark cute as fuck as a result of my Quodo shipping lol. Because I can kind of see him through the eyes of the ship (if you write anyone enough I think you start to appreciate them in a weird/new way!). It’s not that he’s personally attractive to me, but I can see his appeal in a specific context and I get really giddy about it!

I also think in general no one should police who anyone is attracted to (being ethical of course). I feel for the Ferengi because it seems like all the characters view them as ugly or like a joke when I think they do have their unique charms. Like yea, their short stature but intense personalities, and their ornate three-piece suits, it’s a vibe that I’m on board with!

Hope it's okay to reply like this. "Your energy is so HNNNGH and it's a crime that it hasn't happened in canon" is such a good description of my Quodo feelings. There's just so many fun aspects to play with as far as sex and emotions and dynamics go.

I always had a soft spot/partiality for Quark, but yeah, I can see how writing Quark and Odo's relationship would make you come to appreciate Quark because he's a fun character to write, Odo clearly appreciates Quark so his POV highlights Quark's charms, and I think some of Quark and Odo's relationship has the tendency of drawing out some of their positive aspects, or giving a positive spin on their more negative aspects.

I love the Ferengi vibe but yeah, their politics/personalities are generally terrible and they look like goblins, but also they get sympathetic and interesting characterization. So many positive and negative traits all wrapped up in a single package. (It cracks me up so much to read that Gene Roddenberry envisioned the Ferengi as being like super sexual not just in a horny way but in like an attractive/virile sort of way because like WHAT and also it adds a whole other cursed layer on top of everything else going on with Ferengi.)
