things people with rhinitis are just quietly doing every day that we never talk about:
— mouth breathing through entire meetings because one or both nostrils just decided not today
— waking up feeling like you slept inside a cement wall
— explaining to people that no, you don't have a cold, your nose is just like this
— googling "why can't i breathe through my nose" at 2am for the 47th time
— trying every nasal spray known to medicine and developing a complicated relationship with all of them
rhinitis is inflammation of the nasal lining btw, for anyone who doesn't know the word for what they've been dealing with their whole life. your nose is literally swollen on the inside. it's not a personality flaw. it's not something you can just push through. it's your nasal tissue staging a permanent protest.
the thing that has actually helped me lately — and i say this as someone who is deeply skeptical of wellness products — is nasal strips. the little adhesive things athletes wear across their nose. they don't fix the inflammation. nothing external is going to do that. but they physically hold the sides of your nose open a little wider so air can actually get through despite everything your immune system is doing in there.
not a cure. not a replacement for medication. just. a small mercy at 11pm when you're trying to fall asleep and your nose has other plans.
rhinitis solidarity. you're not being dramatic. your nose is genuinely not cooperating and that's exhausting.
Hate it when my chest goes funky. Can I not just breath like a normal human please. Like calm down body its just pollen.
These damn allergies.
