Rule 1. Always repost the rules.
Rule 2. Answer the questions, and write eleven new ones.
Rule 3. Tag eleven people, and link them to your post.
Rule 4. Let them know you’ve tagged them.
what one book have you found yourself revisiting at different stages in your life? how has the text evolved as you have? I've re-read Little Women several times since I was about 11 years old. I've related with Jo my whole life, but the ways in which I identify with her have grown and evolved significantly. Since we follow her into adulthood each stage of her life hits home with my own now. It's pretty startling.
in correlation to the question above: describe a time when you felt “infinite.” The summer before my Junior year of college, I was laying in my friends bed with her, in the dark, listening to music and sharing a cigarette. All of that shit sound very cliche, which it is, but that wasn't the significant part. I was also having a text conversation with someone, and I made a decision about my personal life that inevitably set a lot of life changing things into motion. It was the first time that making an extremely irresponsible decision ultimately ended up doing me some good, and though I wouldn't find that out until years later, even in that moment it felt like infinite possibilities had just unleashed.
what one song defines your entire existence? West Coast Winds by City Drive
from dying your hair lavender to becoming a neurosurgeon, in what way(s) are you holding yourself back? why? All of the things that everyone else thinks I'm really good at are things I am only good at because of the ways my own neuroses fuel me. But those same neuroses make me very panicky and hard on myself and sometimes suicidal. I'm "holding myself back" in some peoples eyes because if I pursued the things people wanted me to, I might not survive.
what ‘odd’ or ‘strange’ beliefs do you subscribe to? I don't think they're odd obviously, or I probably wouldn't subscribe to them. But as a pagan person surrounded by Judea-Christian friends, family and employers, you can imagine how much shit I catch for it.
describe a person, real or imagined, who complements you perfectly. My sister. We don't always get along and we're not as close as we used to be. But she is good at everything I'm not, and the only thing we have in common is our wit and imaginations. So putting us together is basically like finding the most well rounded and capable human being but with twice the sense of humor and volume. If families and genetics are like puzzle pieces, some siblings are on opposite edges, but she and I are two that interlock directly and immediately make you see the bigger picture.
have you ever had a poignant experience with a complete stranger? what happened? I had plenty of poignant experiences with complete strangers. It was called college.
what are your five most meaningful possessions? My copy of Little Women I got for christmas when I was little, with an inscription from my mother inside; my Baz Luhrmann box set - he's one of my biggest inspirations; my theater mask ring Kevin gave me; my book of shadows from when I was a kid; basically all of my books.
what makes you feel most connected to the world around you? most at home in your own skin? Fandom. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I'm happiest when I'm obsessing over something fun and frivolous and harmless and sharing that experience with other people.
what are your natural strengths and weaknesses? what strengths have you worked to adopt? what weaknesses have you worked to overcome? My strengths are my wit and my open mind. My weaknesses are my crippling anxiety and self doubt. I haven't worked on either and doubt anything short of a lobotomy will help.
tell me about the place where you sleep; where you dream. I sleep on a mattress and box spring that lays directly on the floor because my partner and I have broken about 2 or 3 bed frames and just gave up. (That sounds way sexier than it is. We're just fucking clumsy). I sleep next to Kevin, who sleeps between me and the door so I feel safe. The door MUST be closed for me to be able to sleep because sometimes I have night terrors and see things standing in the door way. Our sheets are always dirty because laundry is expensive, and we have way too many pillows. There is a seashell charm beneath my head to try to keep away nightmares. It doesn't work.
and now i get to create eleven questions for those i tag. they are as follows:
What was the first job you remember wanting to have when you grew up?
What are you addicted to?
If you had to fake your own death and run away, who is the one person in your life you'd want to take with you?
What is your favorite part of your body? And what part do other people seem to compliment the most?
What fairytale/folklore/urban legend do you believe might just be real?
Is there a person in your life that you want to get to know better?
What was your favorite all time Halloween costume?
If you could only read one author for the rest of your life who would it be?
Is the house you grew up in still in your family? If not when was the last time you were there?
Which famous person or character could someone compare you to that you would not only agree with but also be proud of that comparison?
What is your ideal way to spend time with your friends?
