OH MY GOD YOU GUYS??? ST5 FINALE??? UNBELIEVABLE ACTUALLY AND I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT, YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!

ok starting off strong. WTF DUFFERS??? “major deaths” you said and it was just steve almost death jumpscare saved by jonathan which btw is such a PUNCH cs that blackout?!?!?!

and nancy almost dying in that cave corner by the mind flayer??? holy shit the stancy/jancy/stonathan edging the duffers gave us???

the epilogue was actually very domestic and the theory of it all just being a dnd game written by mike was KINDA TRUE? lumax endgame!!!! COACH/CAMPERVAN STEVE FICS COMING SOON !!! oh he actually is thriving with his nuggets dream i can imagine the fic ideas im writing once i get my laptop back

cgi wise it was insane though, i can’t imagine the effort and hard work the crew put into this!! oh and edit* extra: dustin’s speech and the whole graduation montage just showed how much we grew with the show. how it has changed and shaped so many childhoods, and birthed so many new ideas and fanfics lol

BUT ALL JOKES ASIDE, i have to say, as a writer myself, it was kind of an underwhelming finale and it could have been written a whole lot better. the standards the whole cast and crew had to uphold were insanely high, and there was no way they could actually fulfill it. there was bound to be disappointment.

if they had actually kept their promise and killed off a couple people, i believe that it could actually impact the audience cause the writers were brave enough to take that risk. in a way, it shows how death is so imminent especially with the current stakes.

a lot of the plot twists were expected in a way, however from a writer’s standpoint i do have to admit that a finale with stakes this high is hard to write. i just wish they incorporated more heartwrenching twists and actually lived up to the whole deaths thing :(

el surviving and kali helping her, was a bit unexpected but at the same time like okay if she didnt survive, her death would have been more gut wrenching since she has always been the point of the show for the past 10 years.

the byler “queerbait” though pissed me off a bit, cause they threw away that entire storyline??? i mean sure will got his “uni bf” in the epilogue but i dont think it was worth cutting out byler’s storyline entirely. again, with the rumors of cuts and all, i wished there was more screentime for the two. but wah wah im glad they all found their happiness in diff ways.

but honestly i believe that they left the finale like that as an open ending. mike’s fantasy of el living her life now free, can give viewers a chance to choose. to believe with the kids, or choose to move on and live life.

ANOTHER EDIT: i just discussed this with my friend who’s a film student, but honestly this season felt very fanservicey? i dont think anyone is at fault but i feel like the way it was directed maybe didn’t live up to the way it was written. but then again, both parts of filmmaking is very tedious. i can write scenarios and fics, but will i be able to direct them? we dont know yet.

and lastly, i dont think 2 hours will ever be enough to fulfill all the storylines. honestly i feel like the dialogue was a bit too long some times, or the flashback to previous seasons was a bit much, when it could have been saved for a proper closing of the chapter.

my final verdict is: the finale was a 7/10 for me. it was great in some ways, some characters got their dream storylines, some didn’t. but no show is flawless, and with the power of fanfiction (LMAO) im so excited to read and write all of your takes and AUs!!! thank you stranger things for fulfilling my childhood :33 im otw to start outlines for fics now be PREPARED!

ok ya lowkey im dumb but like… honestly seeing this after it came out im like yeah okay the lore fit but they sacrificed a lot of plot lines and character arcs… but yeah honestly idk if the whole netflix cuts thing is real but i would like to see at least closure for a few empty holes… but yeah!!! :3
