windbreaker | allnirei, summoners au
lengthy post ahead! inspired by today’s chapter, the part where suo mentioned something about nirei being a beast tamer so i thought, why not?? though instead of beasts we have—
where in nirei, a student of the prestigious and only academy in the empire is beloved by the summoners— the summons, rather.
summoning is the most popular, or well-known and favored magic of all, as it shows that not only the gods but also the spiritual beings and deities favor you. and nirei, the son of the marquisate family known for producing powerful summoners have been having a hard time in his third year in the academy for his lack of ability to summon.
to compensate for his inability to use summoning magic, he utilizes his magical power to an extent to keep him from passing. maybe that’s also why his parent’s have not been scolding or paying him any mind. after all, he passes the written examinations with flying colors thanks to his great memory, while he does decent scores in his practical tests.
however, that didn’t stop other students from picking on him. the same old, you’re not welcome here or you don’t belong here.
he knows.
he most definitely knows his position very well. that’s why he’s making a use of what little he has now.
so as to not become a waste of space.
nirei felt a flick on his forehead. he raises his gazes to suo, his friend and classmate, but also his magic study buddy who teaches him how to utilize what little of magic he has in him. they’re currently sitting on one of the long tables in the library, spending the remaining of their lunch time there.
“you’re thinking of bad things about yourself again, aki-kun. what did i tell you?” nirei could swear that he was almost pouting from beside him. flustered, nirei shook his head and waved his hands in denial.
“no, suo-san! i’m just thinking of the upcoming exams! i didn’t do well in studying on my own you see.” nirei laughed awkwardly.
“you’re doing well already. and suo will help you anyways, so don’t worry about it. i can also show you how i do it.” sakura reassured him from his other side.
immediately smiling from ear-to-ear, nirei felt a light tap on his shoulder, and it was from kiryu who is sitting from across him.
“i can come with you nire-chan, right? i’m kinda struggling to study on my own too, you see.” kiryu said with a lazy smile.
“eeh? but kiryu-kun, didn’t sensei praise you for your magic already?” suo asked innocently. direct translation: the study session only involve me and nirei, stay out of it.
“ah, but he still told me to practice more to hone it better. shouldn’t i practice it with nirei-chan so we won’t be alone?” kiryu asked, just as innocent. direct translation: as if i’m going to leave him alone with you.
“yeah, nirei-kun! we should study together so you can have a stronger magical power!” tsugeura chimed in before nirei could respond.
nirei turned his attention to the other student who tugged on his magic robe, it was sugishita. “i’ll also help, study.” he promptly said, leaving no room for arguments before laying his head down on the book he was reading to nap.
“y’all are deciding this on your own, shouldn’t nirei decide for himself?” sakura loudly interrupted the banter around the table, before finally turning to look at nirei again. a blush slowly crept up from his neck to his face, “n-nirei, don’t you want to study j-just the two of us?”
with that, the table was rowdy once again.
chuckling to himself that let up the tension from the table (not that he noticed), he smiled warmly at them. “maybe we should hold another big study session again, so we can give pointers to each other? i think i’ll learn a lot from all of you, you guys are the top students in our grade after all!” he excitedly suggested.
though disappointed, the men in the table grunted their agreement before being annoyed again seeing some newcomers from another table.
“oh, so nirei is here. i heard some things about studying, do you also need our help?” kaji cooly suggested, eyes only focused on nirei. somehow, that was even more annoying for them, than his act of butting in on their conversation.
“i don’t mind, but is it okay senpai?! i heard about how you aced the practicum last year!” nirei asked, with stars in his eyes.
showing a small smile in his face, kaji assured the blonde, “i should be free around this time. i’ve done my preparations for my practicum anyways.”
“count me in as well!” enomoto stated, wanting to also be included.
kusumi then appeared beside him out of nowhere that no longer startled nirei, but rattled the shit out of sakura and suo (though he didn’t show it), showing nirei a paper that says “i’ll also come with you! we can exchange techniques since we have the same magic type! we can talk more about it after our shared club activities!”
nirei agreed, happy that he’ll get help from the academy’s best of the bests!
they all decided to go back to their respective buildings for their next classes, all walking back together.
from afar, tsubaki giggled and umemiya watched them with a smile of his own.
“isn’t our kohai just so cute and well-loved!” tsubakino stated, a gleeful smile on his face.
“mhm, it’s always so warm and happy around him.” umemiya agreed. chuckling a bit when the walking group encountered another who basically blocked nirei’s way to greet and chat with him.
if umemiya remembers it correctly, it was the top students from tsubaki’s group who are the same year as them. seems like they also took a liking to that cute little monster.
hiragi sighed, not knowing himself if it was from disbelief or the opposite. he stares at the kid at the middle of the big group loudly chatting on the school yard. eyes focused on the glistening crystal necklace on nirei’s neck.
“i still can’t understand why you gave them that idea, ume.” hiragi blurted out.
“what? oh, the ‘safekeeping’ of summons?” umemiya laughed, “hiragi, you have to remember that i only gave that away to sakura because he asked. other than that, the others figure it out on their own.”umemiya stated, implying that he had no hand in it.
hiragi could remember that day as clear as today. in nirei’s first year, second semester where he met the top students after becoming one himself.
the school segregates students based on their generalized academic and practical performances. nirei was on one of the lowest sections during his first semester because of his lack of ability to keep up on admission’s examination. but after managing to adapt and keep up during his first semester, he was rightfully given a spot on the top sections in furin.
hiragi, kaji, enomoto and kusumi are the witnesses to nirei’s hardwork. after all, umemiya made the right call to monitor the kid after noticing that the blonde seems to attend his classes with bags under his eyes. being a part of the student council, hiragi obliged. monitoring the kid on his training and studying after classes. and in times where he is unavailable, he made the three students mentioned, monitor nirei in his stead. and thus, their fondness for the little monster— as they would like to call him.
while that kid has no penchant for taming summons, you can’t say the same for the prodigal summoner students that–that kid brought on his side. after securing a spot on the top class, he managed to immediately befriend or should hiragi say: charm? the top students in their grade.
and then the next thing that hiragi knew, the blonde could already summon high grade spirits, and mythical beasts. when interrogated, he honestly told him that his friends temporarily gave him their second most strongest summons for him to safe-keep while they train the summon they’re most compatible with.
bullshit. hiragi thought since day one. an individual can never summon any mythical or spiritual being that they are not compatible with. obviously because they wouldn’t have any magical powers to draw while summoning them.
and so nirei has, since his first semester of second year in the academy, been walking around wearing the most scary artifact (supposed mana stones turned necklace) known to mankind. it was necklace made out of several different mana stones with shards of the summons infused in them, so that the wearer can also call for the beings aside from their summoners. and the summons in the necklace are not just from his new friends at that time, hiragi almost barfed his insides in distress after knowing all the other top students who have taken a… liking to nirei after several interactions with him— and also given him some artifacts to have access to other strong spiritual and mythical summons.
it was scary. and what’s more scary, is that tsubaki and umemiya has been keeping this under the wraps for almost two years now. if the council and the noble court have heard of this, nirei would be in danger.
he sighed once again. well. it’s not like he can do shit about it now. after all, those kids who have given the blonde a huge portion of their ability (summons), have also showed their ways of taken accountability. his stomach churns at the thought alone.
their generation is quite unnerving, if hiragi might say.
hiragi wishes the selfish nobles and magicians peaceful death, if they ever wanted to covet this generation’s most loved treasure.
or— nirei’s down to earth and earnest personality have earned him good friends in some, and… more, on others.
where we see his journey forging genuine friendships, mentorships, and some blooming romance encounters?!
this may be due for some part two since i love writing with so many details. also, thinking of writing some update on my yakuza series, but i’m also considering posting another rough idea. who wants some omegaverse sugitsugekiryu ?!?? i do and i might post about it if it plagues my mind long enough for me to write about it. but anyways, another silly and self indulgent shit from yours truly!!
windbreaker | allnirei, orphanage director prompt!
lengthy post ahead! i think this will be part one with side ships! also, the orphanage pertained to will have the same staff, but different kind of place (not the small orphanage but rather the movie-like big ones) where they have their own yard, and bigger, mansion-like place with more kids of different ages!
where in all of makochi’s eligible bachelors are so smitten with the newly appointed director of their one and only orphanage in town.
when umemiya heard that the good-for-nothing old director was going to be replaced, he was thrilled but also wary. thrilled, because that man embezzled the funds as if it was his’, and wary because the replacement could be just as useless as the former. but of course, he won’t be one to judge a book by it’s cover so he’d better check out the orphanage for himself!
though only a first gen bofurin graduate now, with a new life of his own, he still once led the town to safety and he’s not gonna stop now. so, with sakura on tow—who also happened to have a free time in his hand despite it being weekdays and having work he visited the orphanage only to be welcomed by the director himself.
a really familiar hamster, or was it puppy-like? innocent blonde man welcomed them in the orphanage. the director invited them into his office, and left the kids to yuki-san’s care to play with, then he introduces himself as nirei akihiko, and it turns out that he bought out the orphanage to take care of it, himself. apparently, he also has heard of the former director’s reputation despite living in tokyo, and now he decided to take care of it for himself.
when sakura, though kinder, but still disbelieving and untrusting; asked why he’s doing all that for a small towns orphanage— nirei could only smile brighter than the sun itself and answer, “even if i never was a part of the town’s protectors, i would at least want to protect something that has always helped me when i was young. after all, i was a part of this orphanage too.”
then it hit ume, it was his little brother who got a scholarship and went to tokyo for his high school studies. “aki-kun?!” ume blurted out, shocking sakura.
“it’s been a while, hajime-nii!” he chuckled, and the next thing nirei knew, he and ume are on the group with ume on top of him, bear-hugging him with tears.
in ume’s joy, he introduced nirei to all of the town, and bofurin’s older generations who are still staying in makochi.
it turns out, nirei has been one of his precious younger brothers who have lost contact with them (kotoha scolded nirei in tears). it was all part of nirei’s plans to get busy in tokyo, and make a name for himself just so he could go back here and take care of the orphanage. especially with the news that shook everyone to their core, that the former director has been embezzling funds for his gambling, and that the staffs had to work side jobs with the shortage of money to feed the kids.
they had to fire the other staffs that was brought it by the old director, and nirei asked ume to tell the bofurin graduates around makochi of the positions vacant in the orphanage. security, support staffs, administrators, and many more.
the first recruit was none other than sugishita kyotarou. he offered to work as a part of the security after finding out that there are still some shady men lurking around the orphanage from time to time. there’s still a lot of admin works that nirei needs to fill in on his own, so he can’t often help the other support staff when taking care of the kids.
after weeks of working, he seemed to have liven up— though unnoticeable to outsiders, around nirei. often responding to the small talks that the blonde initiated. and from time to time, yuki-san would see him watch nirei play with the kids with a small smile in his face. he would also keep nirei company whenever they were out on the park with the kids, occasionally playing but especially so when nirei asked him to. ume was elated as he heard about this, making him and his lover, tsubaki, look at each other in excitement as they were happy for sugishita.
there came kaji ren, who applied for the teaching position a week or two after sugishita. he presented a perfect resume, and a newly obtained primary school teaching license (he originally is a secondary school teacher), and showed the best teaching performance that nirei has been delighted with. it kind of scared the blonde with how nonchalant he seemed, but it turns out he was just quiet, just like sugishita.
aside from teaching, kaji now offers to help nirei with the administrative works every now and then, especially after knowing how slumped the guy is with the works piled up like mountains on his table. every now and then, they would have all nighters sorting out and finishing documents needed for a new application for adoption process, paperworks for the orphanage, the application forms for the jobs and the adoption itself. they immediately hit it off, liking each other’s competence in work.
nirei would often find himself being brought coffee or tea in their all-nighter working sessions by the hired teacher, having casual banters or comfortably waking up in his room connected to the office despite not remembering on going to bed the same night.
their next newly hired staff was sakura haruka, who joined the support staff (with the under staffing happening, he has been filling in a lot of positions for such a big orphanage) with kotoha’s urging. she was worried nirei was not getting any sleep with all the paper works, interaction with the kids, and helping around the orphanage in general. sakura, who works under her, agreed since he was already a volunteer even before nirei was director.
sakura immediately notices the difference with nirei as the director. before, the kids were subdued with the director around. not wanting to piss him off and get punished, but sakura and ume could only so so much since they’re only volunteers. fortunately, the children are a lot more lively now, albeit too loud for his liking, but it was good thing since it means that they’re having more fun. often times as he worked there, he finds himself being drawn to nirei’s presence like the kids and the other new staffs are, being able to bring out smiles and warmth around him.
he would often get dragged around by the kids and sometimes would play with them alongside nirei, sugishita, and kaji. playing house was kind of annoying, especially when kaji was always picked as the father, with nirei as the mother. sakura has never had an agreement with sugishita before aside from those that are for the greater good. but this occurrence especially with kaji’s smug face whenever nirei is not looking at them, it makes both him and sugishita frown in annoyance— which would be wiped away in an instant when nirei looks back at them.
nirei then meets kiryu mistuki, a volunteer from one of the prominent traditional households in makochi. he finds out that kiryu patriarch has originally planned for him to work under nirei as an administrative staff, but wanted to see the state of the orphanage first. as nirei shows him around the place, he finds himself curious as to see how he got the furin recruits drawn to him. he chalked up sugishita’s attraction to nirei as a default, with connections to umemiya-chan-senpai after all. but the blonde director got not only his former grade captain, but also the ever-so quiet kaji-senpai smiling around him, genuinely at that.
though the most concerning mystery for kiryu right now, is with how his father sounded so positive when mentioning a work experience in the orphanage. perhaps he and nirei knew each other?
keeping his doubts to himself, kiryu continued on his volunteer work observing nirei. and with all the selfless actions that the guy has shown them, he couldn’t help but also get drawn to him, himself. he now understood the charm and light that nirei’s presence alone, gives them. he ended up applying for the administrative work that his father had originally planned for him. although his father originally had set him up to gain experience, kiryu wonders how the old man would react if he finds out that he’s doing more than he should.
as he spends more time with nirei doing work, and occasionally getting to know each other; he finds himself at the brunt of kaji’s (unbeknownst to nirei) ire, since the teacher was originally the one keeping the blonde company and working with the papers with him. sugishita and sakura has since then acknowledged him (they think that kaji has been hogging nirei lately) though the appearance of another rival greatly pissed them off as well.
two months have passed since the four of them has settled in as staffs in the orphanage. aside from doing their duties, and occasional group activities with nirei (they’re just interacting with the kids more), they have settled on in with some sort of schedule when hanging around nirei. yuki-san accidentally found out and almost died laughing, mentioning it to ume the next time the guy went in the orphanage for his volunteer work. umemiya finds it funny, while tsubaki finds it most definitely romantic— although not without some threats and warnings, seeing as how the sweet boy doesn’t think that any of them would be into him.
a few weeks later, they find themselves having yet another love rival. suo hayato was back in town, and as it turns out, they knew each other from the vacation trips during their high school and business trips that suo has done in tokyo—in addition to being one of the few big shot sponsors of the orphanage. all the guys seethed in rage (still unbeknownst to nirei) as suo often visited the orphanage spontaneously and requesting nirei’s presence the whole time he was there.
they often would see the two walking around, happily talking, and god do they want to wipe the smirk in suo’s face whenever they lock eyes with him. in contrast to nirei’s bright and warm smiles whenever he sees the other guys, suo would always have an almost mocking smile that they all couldn’t react against. in fear that nirei would see, and think that they hate him.
little do they know, it was just the beginning of the long and hard path of pursuing nirei.
and—scene, for now! i already have a part two in mind featuring tsugeura, mizuki, kusumi, kakiuchi, and maybe chiika. you can just view this however you like (romantic or platonic) since i think it can work in both ways with just a tad bit distinction, but i really had fun writing this.
their ages in this would be around 24 years old and above!
i also had another plot in mind where with all the men pining for nirei finally finding out that he’s into men, but at the same time, they also found out that he’s taken and then all of them share a drink and broken hearts lol. but that’s for another time i think. see y’all in the next one!!
