"Not everyone is going to love everything you do. How you receive things is very personal. I don't have much to do with that side of things because I'm just doing my job. But I loved making all three films and I'm very happy to get to do it again."
—Daisy Ridley for AlloCiné about Star Wars Celebration
What a wonderful day middle of the night here in France to notice such a wonderful piece of information on AlloCiné
Look, after only three movies together, they officially are each other's most regular collaborator !
“...the world is changing, there’s a dialogue that is happening. And we talk a lot about division, but I mostly see a lot of dialogue.”

Noémie Merlant talks about the César and Portrait of a Lady on Fire for Allociné
“It’s important see it and to notice the positive things that are happening”
*Noémie Merlant talks about the César*
*What do you remember from the night of the César?*
“I tell myself that every painful moment like this one also brought that idea of movement, to not stay in something stagnant and there’s nothing better than movement to move forward and to progress. And the world is changing, there’s a dialogue that is happening. And we talk a lot about division but I mostly see a lot of dialogues, either in private circles, in the family, between friends or at work. People start to talk about it and they don’t always have the same opinions but it’s interesting because I feel like we move forward, we ask ourselves questions because we eellike there’s a new generation that have different expectations, wishes, desires and it’s important to listen to those voices that have been shut down or silenced. And I see that there are a lot of men who cares about that movement and there’s a lot of support too. And that’s also important to notice this.”
*What did Portrait of a Lady on Fire change in your life as an actress ?*
“Well it changed a lot of things. It’s a film that took my career elsewhere and for an actor it’s important in the sense that it gives you more opportunities and then to make choices and it’s a luxury to be able to choose. And then you have to make the good choice.”
“And what they (Adèle and Céline) gave me is to have a notion of respect but as much with yourself, on what we want to tell ourself and tell to others, but also of respect with the others, with the people we work with. So to choose scripts that seem to tell something that are important to our heart or where the characters aren’t objects but subjects. And it’s important. It’s a notion that was maybe a bit unconscious or that I didn’t think a lot about. Or even personally, in life, to ask questions about what kind of space we give to ourself and to others. That notion of consent, of sorority, that notion of knowing how to express ourself, what we want to say, what we want to tell and how do we want to tell it. It made me want and pushed me to direct my first feature film. So yeah it pushes you to express yourself and this is what is very interesting, this idea of movement and it sets a new dialogue because more people talk and it’s important.”
