YouTube may be a relatively young platform, but that doesn't mean it isn't a Big Deal (TM) in a lot of people's lives. New industries emerge all the time, and just like any other, there are people in this one who pay their rent and feed their kids with the money they make here. $1.7 million from 50 creators comes out to an average of $34,000 each. Yea, bigger channels might be able to absorb that, but several of the channels I've seen mentioned in articles are completely new to me, and I'm all over YouTube! Imagine if your employer/client(s) sent YOUR money to your landlord/mortgage company, electric company, water company, grocery store, gas station, and anyone else you would have used some of that money to pay, and only have they get THEIR cut, you finally get YOUR money. Then imagine that one day, that money just... doesn't come. No notice, no explanation, nothing. You may even find out why you haven't seen a deposit yet in a news article somewhere. This is the income that you depend on, and they just ran off with it. Have fun explaining to your kids why you're suddenly on-edge, working late into the night, and finding side gigs while they're suddenly eating more beans and rice than chicken and fruit.
