Song Review: Ally Venable feat. Buddy Guy - “Texas Louisiana”
As Louisiana, Buddy Guy lends support to Texas, aka Ally Venable.
Autobiographical, heavy on guitar and based on traditional blues scales, “Texas Louisiana” announces Venable’s forthcoming (March 24) Real Gone.
At 23 and 86, respectively, Venable and Guy represent two extremes as they alternate lines:
Texas/Louisiana/always on the run/well I’m just startin’ out/I ain’t never done
Clichéd in the extreme - two heads is better than one, Venable sings at one point - and with name checks of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Little Walter, “Texas Louisiana” is notable for Guy’s endorsement of Venable more than for the song itself.
