I made a Christmas card for a friend :)

Members of the Harry Potter Alliance at UC Davis (@thedavisalliance) sent cards to each other during Thanksgiving, and I sent mine out on finals week, about 3 weeks later.  I included some small samples of washi tape to make up for the really late mail, though.

Happy spoopy day! 🍂🎃👻

I carved my first pumpkin with my boyfriend last weekend!  I did the Harry Potter one and he did Boo from Super Mario (an appropriately named character for Halloween haha!).  We also have an assortment of mini pumpkins aesthetically scattered around the tv stand, and all these pumpkins make me really happy for fall ^_^  I was a deprived child and my family never bought pumpkins.

Side note: Spray down those gourds with a bleach solution (1 teaspoon bleach + 1 quart water)!!  I didn’t know about this until I noticed Boo had gotten a ton of fuzzy black mold inside and on the tv stand and I had to toss him out :((  Harry's also moldy but the growth is contained in there for now.  I sort of drowned him in rubbing alcohol because I didn’t have bleach.

I posted this on Instagram a couple weeks ago and forgot to post here (oops).

Anyways, this was the first wine bottle I engraved and I gifted it to my boyfriend for his 23rd birthday earlier this month!  I’ve already engraved my name onto a stainless steel water bottle a few years ago, so the whole engraving process wasn’t new to me at all.  Shopping for wine, though, was a whole ‘nother story.  Up until this month, I had never bought alcohol since turning 21 (I’m 23 now).  I spent about 20 minutes browsing the wine section at Trader Joe’s before finally settling on this chardonnay.  We really enjoyed our brief trip to the Russian River for my birthday back in August so I figured this particular wine would make a nice gift.

My boyfriend left on a 5-day cabin trip with 8 of his friends today and he created an entire fake brand around a jungle juice joke 😂

The guys gave a total of $600 in funds. The merch included shirts, acrylic keychains, etched glasses, cork coasters, and personalized thank you emails to everyone. And the names I lettered went on the drink dispenser as a thank you for their monetary contributions

Side note: I know it's insensitive to go on a trip with such a large group of people outside our household during this pandemic. The group have isolated for about a month before resuming in-person Dungeons and Dragons sessions. So far, we've been fine meeting a couple times on weekends, but I'm a little worried since the guys are still working

This has been in my draft folder for an entire month...

Anyways, my boyfriend J had a project for his textiles class, so he asked me to do a few quick sketches of some leaves.  I actually did a full floral design (left), inspired by Archer and Olive, and J did the embroidery (right).  This was J’s first time embroidering!!!

This individual piece is going to be incorporated into a larger work and put on display in an art gallery!!  Funnily, J forgot that the purpose of this project is to design something relating to the global refugee crisis.  So after he finished the embroidery, he made up a metaphor about flowers being uprooted from the soil.  It works, I guess lol

Look for our work in the “25 Million Stitches” project by Jennifer Kim Sohn at Verge Center for the Arts in Sacramento, June 12 - August 16, 2020, pending reopening plans for the state and Sacramento County

Update: A post on the "25 Million Stitches" Facebook page says that the installment will tentatively open on June 20. There is no confirmation on Verge Center's website or social media accounts, as of June 12, though.

I made this concert poster for a project focusing on typographical hierarchy.  I’m a little mad that the prof wanted posters only in black and white or greyscale, so I included one of 15 iterations in this post.  The one on the left is what my poster would have looked like if color was allowed.  I tried matching the colors to the gradient on the Love Yourself: Her album.

Also, RIP to all the fun events that have been cancelled due to Covid-19 :((

J and I were planning on going to 2 concerts (one was a small gig with his friends’ band), and they would have been my first experience, but, oh well.  We’re driving out to Bodega Bay for our 3rd anniversary!!  These monthly anniversaries have been giving us something to celebrate during this weird time.

Edit: It was far too hot on Memorial weekend.  We ended up staying in and watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 for our anniversary

It’s that time of year again!  Tickets to the Davis Harry Potter Alliance’s (@thedavisalliance) 6th annual Yule Ball go on sale starting today through February 21, 9 AM - 3 PM at Memorial Union.  Proceeds from this event will be donated to Direct Relief to help fight the Australian wildfires.  I will personally be sitting out in the cold tabling all day on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Yes, I totally recycled my graphic design final project for this
