Madonna and Child with Saints Lucy and Catherine along with two nuns by Paolo Veronese, 1580s
I am Alpha and Omega
4 From John to the seven churches in Asia. I pray that you will be blessed with kindness and peace from God, who is and was and is coming. May you receive kindness and peace from the seven spirits before the throne of God.
5 May kindness and peace be yours from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness. Jesus was the first to conquer death, and he is the ruler of all earthly kings. Christ loves us, and by his blood he set us free from our sins
6 He lets us rule as kings and serve God his Father as priests. To him be glory and power forever and ever! Amen.
7 Look! He is coming with the clouds. Everyone will see him, even the ones who stuck a sword through him. All people on earth will weep because of him. Yes, it will happen! Amen.

Notes: Revelation 1:4-8 is an introduction to the book that serves as a greeting to the seven churches of Asia, offering them grace and peace from the triune God, and the Holy Spirit using a seven-fold description (The Spirit of the Lord, of Wisdom, of Understanding, of Counsel, of Power, of Knowledge of Reverence). It describes Jesus as the faithful witness, the first to be resurrected, the ruler of earthly kings, and the one who frees believers from sin, making them priests. The passage concludes by affirming Jesus's future, visible return to Earth, which will be witnessed by all.

Belief is a wonderful way to pass the time until the facts come in.

almighty
* i dreamed the dream of a hungry man; and awoke to a belly yet full, a cupboard unbarren and varied
i dreamed the dream of a thirsty man; and awoke to the trickle of a stream out back, a patter of rain against my sill
i dreamed the dream of an angry man; and awoke to a rage abated, a visage needing but a nudge into a grin
i dreamed the dream of a hopeless man; and awoke in a state of grace, suffused forgiveness in my heart and light
i dreamed the dream of a crazy man; and awaken and kneel to the benevolent, almighty, sir tiddlywump III, who keeps me safe from harm while i sleep
& sane, too. * 8/14 - 11/25 - lebuc - almighty
God is infinite, self-existing, and without origin.
He has always existed.
For some, this may the hardest concept to grasp about God.
I once heard an expression that claimed..
“Trying to grasp the nature of our limitless God is like holding onto water as it rages down a river.”
A.W. Tozer says in relation to God’s infinity that,
“To admit that there is One who lies beyond us, who exists outside of all our categories, who will not be dismissed with a name, who will not appear before the bar of our reason, nor submit to our curious inquiries; this requires a great deal of humility, more than most of us possess, so we save face by thinking God down to our level, or at least down to where we can manage Him.”
So, as I thought about who God is, it made me also think of who we are in Him.
For example, Genesis 1:1 teaches that God is Elohim, the strong One.
And in Him, 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here.
Therefore, we are new creations in Christ.
In Exodus 4:10,13, we learn another of God’s names, Adonai- which indicates first his title as Master or Lord, a name too sacred to be uttered.
Yet, even though He is sacred, we are chosen, holy, and dearly loved in Him.
Colossians 3:12 says, Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
The Bible is filled with the names of God, which describe His character!
He is able to do above and beyond all we ask or imagine.
He is trustworthy!
Dear Jesus..
even though I cannot grasp the limitlessness of your incredible attributes, help me to rest in my trust of You. Amen.
