For 10.5 months now I've breastfed River. It has been incredible, I've really enjoyed it and our journey continues. My breastmilk continues to be a valuable source of his nutrients on top of any food he manages to swallow (and not chuck on the floor!) This is NOT a 'Breast is Best' post at all. But for anyone out there who needs to know that there are still HUGE benefits to getting the boobs out. 🍉🍉So here we go: Studies have shown that many of the immune factors passed on through breastmilk actually increase in concentration in the 2nd year. A child's immune system develops very slowly (mature around 6yrs) so breastmilk continues to offer protection. It also has an impact on the development of allergies in this vulnerable stage of development, reduces risks of obesity and, contrary to sad popular belief....natural term/extended breastfed children have a better platform to grow secure in their own independence. Plus.....Isn't it nice knowing that WHEN (not if) huge fistfuls of your lovingly made food goes on the floor and up the walls, at least some nutrients from your milk is in their tummies?! 🍉🍉 It's not always easy or smooth sailing, even now. And we all need reminding of what a FANTASTIC job we are doing, right? #uniteinmotherhood #almost11months #breastfeedingtoddler #boddler #naturaltermbreastfeeding #motherhood #bosomnectar #breastfeeding #allmothersrock
