Unpacking had taken longer than expected. With every item she pulled out of it’s box Dominique had taken the time to find the perfect place for it. She enjoyed decorating her room, rehanging pictures, lining up the few crystal balls she had across the top of her draws and tiding up her dressing table. When she was finally done filling her new wardrobe, she closed the door and admired her new room. It was slightly bigger than the last and the large bright windows were a welcome addition.
Somehow Dominique had ended up sharing a flat with Aloma. It was a strange match. At school the pair had never quite seen eye to eye, or rather Dom had looked down on Aloma. Looking back she had enough self-awareness to see she hadn’t been nice to the poor girl and it was a bit of a surprise that she’d even allowed Dominique to move in. She supposed Aloma was just that nice - and had zero backbone. But now Aloma was useful, Dom needed to stay on her good side if she wanted to keep her new home, and so any thoughts of treating her as she had done at Hogwarts were gone.
“Hello roomy!” Dom chirped happily when she found Aloma in the kitchen. “That room is such a good find, I can’t believe you weren’t renting it out before. I think we’re going to have so much fun though. It’ll be like Hogwarts dorms all over again, only with a little more privacy.”

Finley’s impulse purchasing had come back to haunt him. Every time he went into his office he had to look at that damn bird, each day looking progressively worse. Finley knew eventually he’d burst into flames and be reborn but he was starting to worry that it was more than just the bird’s life cycle causing it to look so distressed. If he had been honest he’d put very little thought into how he’d care for the exotic animal and left all of it’s care to he and Vivienne’s house elf while he’d been away. When he entered his office that morning and saw that his eyes had become dull and he looked like he was about to keel over he decided it was time to seek some help.
He’d written to Aloma, not sure where else to go and she’d graciously agreed to meet him and so he packed the phoenix (Finley still hadn’t named the poor guy referring to him only as ‘the phoenix’) into the cage he had purchased him in and travelled by floo to Hogsmeade approaching the Hogwarts gates where they had arranged to meet.
He stood, peering at the poor thing reaching in with his finger to stroke his beak. The phoenix snapped and Finley quickly withdrew his hand. He couldn’t exactly blame the bird for disliking him but decided, as he had been deciding so often recently, that he needed to take responsibility. He would either work out how to care for this bird or find someone who could.
It was then that he spotted Aloma through the gate and gave a brief wave. “Hey, thanks so much for agreeing to help me on short notice.”
