It's been a couple of days, but I can feel my strength returning. It just sucks regular Potions and Super Potions aren't working how they should. Within the week, the drs. say I can go home.
Everyone has been visiting me, the girls even got Xavier down here. You should see the bottle of vodka waiting for me at home. Madame sends her best to me.
Sorry, journal, but I just noticed the time. Mari should be here soon to give me a sponge bath. Got some strings pulled so I don't have a stranger washing me. I'm still a litlle nervous showing her my legs, but... She's been realyl sweet and... I might be... No, not gonna say it.
Maka slept most of her second day in Mari's bed, soaking the pillow with her tears. Why run around the city when no one was there?
When the sun was setting, Maka crawled out of bed and wandered the city. She could hear the Pigdoves and Pidgeys squawk and fight over scraps. Wingulls out by the pier calling out. Maka leaned against the railing and huffed. She opened her mouth and spat fire balls, not really aiming for the birds. The fire landed in the water with a sizzle. She turned to walk away, tired off seeing a way out but had no means to do it. She was unfocused, but that's when the wind whispered to her.
"Maka... Maaaka..."
With the moon high, taunting Maka with her freedom, the Houndour sat on the roof of Witchful Wishes. She snuggled into Mari's hoodie, bringing up the front of it, sniffing it. For hours, Maka stayed outside, howling sadly. The wind answered back, whispering her name, but the girl refused to pay it mind. Losing hope that she'll ever be reunited with her family.
---
"Is she ever going to wake up?"
"Maka..."
"We just gotta keep calling her name, keep talking to her. She's in there, just lost and alone."
---
The third day awoke the Hound with the sun shining bright in her face. It seemed so close, so bright. Maka growled and pulled her beanie over her face, trying to block it. But her stomach ached for food. She climbed down the roof and went about making herself a cup of coffee. She heard some rustling in the shop and panic, not hope, set in. "More ferals?"
Maka looked out into the shop, a few Zigzagoons were trying to break into the cases. Maka growled, "How dare they, ya?" She whispered to herself. Then she thought, how was she any better breaking into restaurants and eating that food? She sighed and eased into the shop. She opened the counters and laid some of the sweets out. The little zig-zags growled and chittered happily eating some then taking the rest back to their nest, no doubt.
After her coffee she headed back to her apartment and changed her clothes. She packed a small bag, and put Mari's hoodie in her pack; just so it didn't get ruined. She put on one of Paris' smaller shirts, rolling up the sleeves, packed a scarf Lani knitted for her. She grunted and headed out, and made herself some lunch at the little Mexican place Rajia and her would frequent. She made more than she'd eat and left some of the cooked meat and vegetables out for the feral Pokemon that were out and about. She took a look around and started head toward the northern exit oft he city. She'd try the park again, hoping not to run into that big Persian.
---
"It's been three days, I can't take this anymore!"
"We gotta be strong for her."
"Maka... Fight it, honey."
---
Maka slowly walked around the fountain, her ears perked, her eyes open. No sign of the Persian. Maka hurried her steps, glancing back, to the left, then to right. She nodded and started to run. She'd be free soon, then maybe, just maybe, she'll find everyone.
She almost made it to the gate before she was tackled. She tumbled head over heels, before skidding to a stop. She stumbled to her feet, the big, nasty Persian stood, hair on end as it growled at her.
"Let me pass!"
The Persian growled and hissed at her. Its claws started to glow purple and black, reading its Shadow Claw. Maka clicked her tongue and put her bag down, kicking it toward the gate-wall. She growled, her eyes flashing scarlet red, flames coming out in puffs. "Fine! Have it your way!"
The Persian let out a high-pitched scream before charging. It leaped, its claw came down with a swoosh, large purple and black claw marks trailed behind the paw. Maka side stepped, her fist coming around. "Foul Play!" She barked, connecting with the Persian's shoulder. The cat tumbled away before regaining its footing and hissing again. The Persian's jewel started to glow and Maka paled.
"No!"
The Persian's Power Gem shot out, just missing Maka. It struck the ground behind her, jolting Maka from her feet. Maka cough out the dust and squinted through the cloud. She heard the Persian coming at her. She saw the gleam of the cat's claws. Maka rolled away as the Slash struck the ground. Maka opened her mouth, "Flamethrower!" the flames hit the cat directly, sending it back. When the flames died away, the Persian stood, charred and burnt, but still willing to fight.
"Stop this! Just let me through!" Maka barked. in the blink of an eye, the Persian was on top of her, snarling in her face. "Get off!"
"Open your eyes."
Maka stopped struggling, "What?" She blinked and the Persian was replaced with Paris' face.
"Wake up." Another blink, Lani was staring at her. She shut her eyes and she could feel tears stinging her face.
"Stop with the tricks!"
She opened her eyes, Rajia looked so sad, "Lil' hound."
"Get off of me!!"
She thrashed about, before feeling a cool hand on her face. She let out a sob, looking up at Mari's gold eyes, "Wake up, Maka baby."
Everything went black.
---
She heard another gasp, sniffling, and Paris and Lani shouting something. "So loud... Stop..." Maka grumbled. her eyes fluttered open, blinking against the bright, white light.
"Maka!" her ears flattened against her head, now pounding.
"Oi... Too loud.."
She opened her eyes fully as saw everyone looking at her. "Wha... What happened to that Persian? Where am I? Where were you guys? Am I dead?"
"One thing at a time, Spits," Paris smiled, his hand holding her's. "You're not dead. Are you ok? You've been out for a while."
"What's a while? What happened? You... You all left me... I was alone." Maka could feel tears well up again. She cried so much already.
"Three days, dumpling," Lani was closer to her head, standing on Paris' right, his hand softly petting her. He fussed with the scarf around her neck. "We.. We didn't leave?"
"The scarf I packed..." Maka's hand felt the scarf. "Yeah you did, the whole city..."
Paris sighed, Maka looked around. Rajia was clinging to Alexxi, her eyes full of tears at the foot of her bed. "Why is Raj crying? What happened to me?" A mild throb of pain went through her body every so often, then was dulled.
"You.. You were hit by a car, baby." Maka turned to her right, looking up at Mari.
Maka's bottom lip trembled, "Ma-Mari."
"A... A guy was drunk and blew through a red light. I.. i wasn't looking... You pulled me out of the way, but.." Mari burst into tears, clinging to Maka. "You saved me! And you wouldn't wake up! I haven't stop crying or calling your name." She cried into Maka's neck, clinging to the Hound. Maka buried her face into Mari's shoulder, clutching her so tightly.
"You were having some wicked dreams, Spits," Paris rubbed the girl's shoulder. "You'd just... howl. You wouldn't wake up, just lay there and howl."
"It was so sad!!" Rajia cried a little harder. "You howled for us... I used to howl like that when I was young. When daddy and Shere wasn't around. I'd sit and howl sadly in my room."
Mari pulled back a bit, "It's all my--"
"No, don't say that. It's no one's fault, except the guy that hit me." Maka started to smile, though, "But... But I'm not alone anymore. So.. So I'm not sad. I'm just glad you all didn't leave me."
"We would never leave you, sweetie," Lani ran his hand carefully through Maka's hair.
Maka felt the tears continue to roll down her cheeks, "I'm not alone anymore." Everyone smiled, just happy to have their Hound back. Maka was the happiest, happy to be back with her pack.
Never again would Maka wish to be alone, for any reason.
She woke up a few hours later, sore and hungry. A thought hit her like a Brick Break. "Mari!" She got up and ran through the shop. No answer, "So.. it wasn't some dream. I really am... Alone" She huffed, stretched, and growled. She wiped at her eyes, warm and puffy from crying herself to sleep. Maka put her phone in the hoodie pocket. She flicked on the lights, electricity still worked. She made her way behind the counter again, to the back of the shop. The coffee maker looked easy enough to operate. Within a few minutes, coffee was brewing, setting Maka's mind at ease. She searched through the employee fridge, finding a creamer that had become a favorite of her. Cinnamon sugar, made her coffee smell like Christmas. She did up her cup and debated on sitting in the shop or at least making herself comfortable and sitting up in Mari's and Miss Willow's apartment.
She finished off her coffee, cleaned the cup, and left it next to the girls' sink. She got outside and took off Mari's hoodie, tying the sleeves around her waist. She tried her phone again, going through all her contacts. Not even one ring went off before the call dropped. She had half the mind to just chuck the thing against the hardest surface she could find. But she stopped, "Then her picture will be gone, too." Maka whimpered, "I need at least that. Hopefully, her picture will keep me sane." the Houndour made it to a little Italian place, the same place they all went after Lani and the girls found them practicing I Caught Fire in the park.
Maka chocked back a sob, "I just hope... Where ever they are, they're all together. I.. I can stand knowing it's just me alone. But... If Paris and Lani are separated, Paris would tear the universe apart to get to Lani. Lani would do the same, probably go all ghost to do it, ya." Maka talked to herself, just so she didn't go deaf by the silence. In the kitchen, Maka felt herself relax just a bit. She went through the fridge, pulling out chicken breasts and pasta, and, from what she could guess, day old sauce. She went over to turn on the stove. The gas clicked, but no flames. "Tsk," Maka puckered her lips and let loose a weak Flamethrower, happy with the size of the flame.
Everything else seemed to go smoothly after that. She enjoyed her dinner, and wrapped up what ever she didn't eat, putting it back in the fridge. She walked outside, the night air having a chill to it; her hand went to Mari's hoodie, but she left it off for now. The street lights all flickered on, she guess on some timed system. Maka scoured the city, looking for anybody else. "It's like everyone just up'ed and left, forgettin' to wake me." Maka walked around, her twitching and moving, trying to pick up any sound.
That's when she heard it.
A garbage can dropped, a a low hiss followed. Maka turned around, her eyes held a slight glow with the street lights. "Who's there!?" Maka got in a defensive stance.
From the shadows, a large Persian stalked. "A feral? The only other sign of life and it has ta be a big ol' cat. And you look like you wanna claw my eyes out." The Persian's eyes glowed menacingly, fangs bared in a intimidating hiss. Maka huffed some little fire balls, trying to scare the cat away, but it was no use. "I really don't want to hurt you." Maka could notice this cat's dirty fur, thin form, and wild look in it's eyes.
"Seriously, was I out long for this to happen?!" The Persian gave a scream before leaping at Maka, claws gleaming. Maka sidestepped the Slash attack, and jumped away from the cat. "Flamethrower!" Maka opened her mouth wide, a plume of flame rushed out. She aimed for near the Persian, not at it. The thing was probably scared and hungry. A long hiss and the cat leaped again, over the flames, claws glowing black and purple.
"Shit, Shadow Claw!" Maka back stepped, the claws just missing flesh, but sliced open her shirt. She hated to do it, but with the Persian in close enough range, her fist lit up a bright purple, "Payback!" She slammed her fist into the cat's face, practically throwing the large cat several feet back. Maka shot Flamethrower down, then turned tail. She ran, back toward the city, "i'm staying away from the park from now on." She made her way back through the city. She sighed, and started to walk. The Hound unlocked her phone to see it was getting late into the evening.
She went to the piers of Castelia and sat on the edge. She shivered, slipping on Mari's hoodie and drawing up the hood. She watched the moon ripple in the ocean's surface. "I guess this is night one of how many I'll endure alone. Everyone is gone, I'm just left with myself and my thoughts." She rubbed her eyes, feeling more tears well up. "I might not be totally alone, there are probably more feral Pokemon around. Now that gijinka and humans aren't around, they think they have the run of the town. I wonder if it's some stupid voodoo-shit." As her tears fell faster in big, fat drops, her face twisted into a snarl. She bellowed to the moon, "If I ever wished to be alone, I take it back! I never want to be alone again! Give me back my friends!! My ohana!!!" Maka got up from her spot and let out a heartfelt, sorrowful howl to the moon. "Give me back Mari!!" She wailed, howled, and screamed. The moon silently listened to the Houndour, but she gave no answers.
If anyone was still around, the only sounds they heard that night was the heart-breaking howls of a lone Houndour, separated from her pack.
((With the exception of Rp's already started with Maka [Jazzy submitted "Bottom's Up" before I got the M!A] She won't be opened to asks until the three day period is up. So until Thursday afternoon, she won't be able to answer any asks. You can still send them, she just won't answer right away. ))
Alone: I'm so lonely without you...Muse is stuck alone as the only survivor in a deserted city for three days.
She woke, and she heard nothing... which was weird, she lived in a busy city. She usually woke up sometime around 2 in the afternoon; she should hear everything. Cars, people, all kinds of sounds. She sat upright and rubbed her eyes. She slipped out of bed and padded over to her window. She parted the blinds and saw... Nothing. Not caring that she was shirtless anymore. She drew the blinds completely, Castelia was dead. No...Just, deserted.
"Impossible."
She threw on a shirt, changed into jeans, made sure her lower legs were wrapped then slipped on her sneakers, ones that won't hurt her feet if she walked for hours on end. She knew she'd be out for a while. Her light grey beanie in place. Keys, wallet, and phone, and Maka was out the door, scrambling down the stairs. Her heart pounded with every step."No no no no no no no!" She growled.
Outside the sun was shining usual, a nice breeze, and the air was clean, for the most part. But shops were closed, cars parked, some a little haphazardly, and, after looking in some windows of homes, it looked like everyone just up and disappeared. Maka started to whine, her ears perked, always twisting and twitching, straining to listen for anything. For anyone.
Her usually tan face started to pale. She needed to find Paris and Lani, she had to know at least they were safe. She took off in a dead run toward Lani's apartment. "If they're anywhere, they should still in bed, if not just starting to get up, ya!" Maka huffed, not even caring she was running in the middle of the street. If anything, she'd hope she'd get hit by a car; that way she'd know she wasn't... No, she can't say that word yet. Not until she knew for sure.
The apartment building door was unlocked and easily swung open. She hurried up the stairs and started to bang on the ghost flame's door, screaming. "Lani! Paris!! Please!! Answer me!! Guys!!!" Maka howled and barked. She snarled, her first glowing bright purple, three little energies surrounding it, "Beat Up!" Her fist smashed the door to bits. "Lani!! Paris!!!" She went through the whole apartment, no sign they were there, not in bed, not in the shower, nor the kitchen or living room.
Gone.
"Madame's! They gotta be there!!" Maka tore out of the apartment like a Crobat from Hell. In no time flat, she was at the club. The door opened. That, itself, wasn't too unusual, everyone came here in the afternoon before the usual crowd to relax and have a few drinks and laughs. "Xavier! Alexxi! Madame!!" Maka passed the bar, no one. She wandered backstage, to the dressing rooms, "Hey!!!" She got to Rajia's door, stifling back another whine. She pushed the door, no one. "Rajia!!!" She howled, slamming the side of her fist against the door. She turned and roared, "Lani!!! Paris!!!!" She dropped to her knees and hands, tears welling up and falling. "Gone... Where are you?"
Her heart skipped a beat awfully. "Oh no..." She got up, bolting from Madame's. Down a few blocks was a little shop Maka had been frequenting after she got stood up. It had only been a couple of weeks, but it had become like third or fourth home to her when not with the Madame crew. Un-shed tears blurred her vision. Not like she'd run into anyone.
She got to Witchful Wishes, a sweet shop. She hesitated in front of the darkened shop. It wasn't open, but she just knew in her gut the door would be unlocked. Her hand reached out, shaking, terrified. "Please... If anyone... Please... let her be here." She opened the door, the door bell rang out, the first sound she had hear in the last hour beside her own voice, breath, sobs, and heart.
"Miss Willow? Miss Gen?" Maka had come to known the owner and most of the employees at the little shop. However, there still was no answer. She stood at the counter, praying to Arceus someone would answer her. "Mr. Blake!" She even called to the quiet Spiritomb. Another grumpy guy that she'd actually come to enjoy his company. He reminded her so much of Xavier.
She started to cry, openly sob. Her fist pounded against the counter. Her hopes were so high, she knew they were going to be crushed. "Why my friends?! Why my family?! GIVE THEM BACK!!" She tried her phone, but no service, not even a dial tone.
She hopped the counter, and called everyone's name.. Except her's. Still refusing to believe she was gone, too."What did I do to deserve this? To be alone like this...?" She searched the back, no one. She went to walk to the front then she stopped, her eyes wide, her ears flat. She slowly turned her head and saw her purple hoodie. Fresh tears fell as Maka took the hoodie off the hook and held it up to her nose. "It still smells like you.." She bit her lip, holding back a loud sob that chocked her. Maka walked around the counter and sat at the table, the table she sat at the first time she was here. The first time they met, held hands, and flirted. All gone, memories now. Nothing more. Maka slipped on the hoodie and drew up the hood, surrounding herself with the other's scent. She cried for hours, exhausting herself. As she started to drift to sleep, one name stayed on her lips. As if trying to will the other there. But she wasn't. Maka was alone, and she didn't know why.
In her hand, as she fell asleep, her phone showed a picture of the two of them together, happy and smiling.
