The journey to Veronia is longer than you remember, but with each passing moment, your inner Omega grows more and more restless.
So close to her alpha, yet so far away.
All you need is to see him. That should shut her up long enough for you to have a conversation about what you want, what you deserve.
“Your Majesty!” Steve exclaims when you enter the Palace, your brother and Pietro following close behind.
“Where is he?”
Steve doesn’t need you to say who you’re looking for.
“He is in his chambers, but I would advise against seeing him for the time being. He... isn’t well.”
You look at him for a long moment before walking past him.
The palace smells exactly how it did when you left, though there is one distinct smell that is missing.
“I will see him and I will do so now. Unless there is something he is trying to hide from me?”
Steve splutters for a moment before shaking his head vigorously.
“No! Of course not. I just, for your own safety, Your Majesty, I would advise against.”
You purse your lips and nod, walking the familiar route to the King’s chambers with the three Alpha’s trailing behind you.
“I thank you for your input. If it is truly an issue, then you all may remain outside if I am in danger.”
He huffs a sigh but otherwise says nothing more.
As you round the last corner before the king’s chambers, you’re struck with his scent hanging so thickly in the air that you may as well have walked into a wall.
“He’s in rut,” you murmur, your inner Omega guiding you closer slowly while the three Alphas grow uneasy.
There’s a loud snarl from inside the King’s chambers as he smells the approaching men, your scent shrouded by theirs.
“Your Majesty, he is going feral. I cannot, in good conscience, allow you anywhere near him,” Steve whispers, wincing when his King snarls again.
“You may stand outside if you are worried. He will not harm me.” You say the words firmly, though there’s a small twinge of doubt in the back of your mind.
The last time you thought he wouldn’t hurt you he proved you wrong.
Before anyone can speak another word, you push into the King’s chambers.
His scent wraps you in an embrace and clouds your thoughts, and your inner omega preens.
It’s a strange comfort, that missing piece finally found now that you’re near him.
He growls lowly, head digging into the pillows while he fists his cock.
“Alpha,” the word slips out before you can stop it and his head snaps up so quickly it’s a miracle his neck doesn’t break.
His eyes are flaming red as he stares at you and you take a hesitant step back.
“Omega,” he almost whimpers, tossing his head back and digging it into the pillows as he struggles to remain composed.
“You should not be here... I cannot control myself.”
His voice is strained and gravelly and has slick pooling between your thighs.
“Your Majesty, it is not safe for you to be near him when he is like this,” Pietro’s voice pierces through the atmosphere of the room with sharpness like that of a knife.
James growls loudly, his eyes burning with red flames straight from the fiery pits of Hell at the sight of another Alpha’s hands on you.
“He may not mean to, but Alphas are unpredictable when feral.”
Your husband snarls again, pushing himself into a seated position with his deadly gaze trained on Pietro.
You pull your dagger from its place on your hip and point it at the King, growling to match him.
“You will not make another threatening move. I do not care that you are in rut, if you so much as breathe aggressively toward us I will cut off your cock and shove it down your throat.”
His top lip curls into something that’s half frown half grimace, and slowly he lowers to the bed.
“Omega,” he moans, shaking his head and taking deep breaths of your scent, wishing his nose was pressed to your neck so he could bask in it even more.
Pietro is stunned at how the King listens to you but says nothing on the subject.
“He has been like this for days, Your Majesty. He refuses any... offered help,” Steve whispers, his eyes trained on his King in case a hostile move is made.
“He had a rut only weeks ago,” you reply, brows drawn together in confusion.
When James lets out another moan of pain, you take a slow step back.
“Perhaps we should continue this conversation elsewhere. I doubt my scent is helping matters.”
The other Alphas nod and follow you out of the King’s chambers and toward the library.
“The healer thinks it is because of the fresh bond you share. Though she does not know how long it will last without his mate,” Steve explains.
You nod slowly, thinking over his words.
“Has she said what may happen if he goes unaided through his rut?” Elden asks, narrowed eyes focused on Steve. As an Alpha, he knows the risks of enduring a rut alone.
Steve releases a heavy sigh and drops his head.
“She believes that if he endures alone, he will go completely feral to the point where, by law, he will be killed and his next of Kin will take the throne. That would be you, Your Majesty.”
You blink dumbly at the blond for a long while before shaking your head.
“Why has he not accepted the help of anyone? I’m sure Lady Sharon would be more than willing to help him,” you mutter bitterly, rubbing your biceps at the memory of her hands on you.
“We have not seen nor heard from Lady Sharon since your disappearance, Your Majesty. It seems she is hiding from the consequences of her actions. And as for the King... well... whenever it was suggested that we bring him a partner, he refused. He nearly attacked Natalia when she brought it up a second time.”
Why would he be so against a partner?
That is the only option if he wishes to remain a King. Hell, if he wishes to remain alive.
“I will go have words with him.”
As tempting as it is to take control over his Kingdom, there is no way you would not be usurped by the members of his council.
And you’re not ready to have your own Kingdom to rule, not yet.
You wanted the King to die so you could escape and return to your home, not so you could take all that is his.
If he dies, then all of his responsibilities fall onto your shoulders, and that is something you cannot handle right now.
“Are you sure you want to do that? It's dangerous and he’s especially strong,” Elden warns, a hand finding your shoulder gently.
You nod at him, your eyes softening at the worry clouding his eyes.
“He obeyed when I threatened him. If you wish to stand outside, you may. But I cannot have your scent in the room, it will only further aggravate him.”
He reluctantly nods, knowing he has no choice but to obey even if he doesn’t like it. This is, after all, your Kingdom.
You return to the King’s chambers and slowly make your way inside, your inner omega whining for her Alpha.
“Omega,” he whines, sweat glistening on his thick chest.
“You will die if you do not accept the help offered to you,” you say firmly, crossing your arms over your chest and standing at the end of the bed.
He only whines again, crawling to you and shaking his head.
“If it is not you, I do not want it.”
Your heart skips a beat at his confession, but you are not going to forgive him so easily.
“You would die, give up your throne and your Kingdom, for this?”
He nods without hesitation, trembling fingers reaching out and brushing across your arm, leaving goosebumps in their wake.
“You said being bonded to me is a fate worse than death itself. I now know how you feel. For being without you has brought me a pain that I would not wish upon my most hated enemies. If I cannot rule with you by my side, then I do not want to rule at all. Life is meaningless if you are not in it.”
You watch him for a long moment before letting out a slow breath and dropping your arms.
“The things you have done to me will not be forgotten,” you whisper, eyes focused on his.
He drops his head in shame and you can almost feel his inner Alpha howling in agony.
“But to sentence you to death is not a punishment fitting of your crime. I will not allow you to destroy yourself and leave your Kingdom Kingless. Not like this.”
Slowly, so very slowly, his eyes raise up to meet yours, a thousand questions swimming in them as they flicker between blue and red.
You hold his gaze for a long while, lifting your chin slightly and asserting your dominance over the situation.
He reluctantly drops his head again, submitting to you if only for the moment.
“Omega,” he whispers, his voice low and gravelly, a soft plea for you to do something, anything.
“I’m here, Alpha.”
You slowly untie your dress and drop it to the floor, stepping out of it and standing before him as bare as the day you were born.
His eyes devour your figure and a possessive growl rumbles lowly in his chest.
You crawl onto the bed slowly, only for him to grab you as soon as you’re near enough.
You find yourself beneath him in an instant, his nose buried in your neck while he ruts his hips against your thigh like a teenager, desperate for release.
One of your hands pushes at his chest and he whines softly, ceasing the sound when you roll over and push onto your hands and knees, arching your back and presenting for him.
“My Omega,” he murmurs, dragging his hot cock through your folds while dropping his head to your neck, desperate to scent you.
“Knot me, Alpha. I’m yours.” You don’t think about the words before you speak them, far too lost in the bliss of having your Alpha back.
He growls softly, the sound vibrating against your throat as he snaps his hips forward, sheathing himself inside you with ease.
The stretch of his cock against your walls has your mouth dropping open and your eyes rolling back.
It’s a type of fullness that you’re not sure you can live without. How you managed to go without it for so long is beyond you.
His lips travel the length of your neck, sucking and marking wherever he can reach.
Now that he has you beneath him, he’s never going to let you go.
For the briefest of moments, you allow yourself to forget about how he wronged you, how he hurt and humiliated you.
For the tiniest moment, you allow yourself to be his mate. To truly be his.
Beneath him, with his strong body caging you against the bed and his hot lips on your throat, you feel wanted.
You feel cared for.
You feel loved.
His thrusts become erratic quickly, his knot swelling as he pistons his hips impossibly faster.
“Up, Omega. I want to feel you.” He dips one hand down your body, tilting your pelvis back and allowing him to hit deeper inside of you while his fingers find your clit.
You whine softly, arching further into him as his knot catches inside of you, hot bursts of his cum painting your walls white.
His teeth find the familiar grooves in your neck and the intensity of it paired with his expert fingers on your clit have you falling headfirst into an Earth-shattering orgasm.
Your hands clench the bedsheets by your head, squeezing the fabric into your fists as your cunt spasms and your body hums with electricity.
You don’t notice his hands move until they’re on top of yours, smoothing out your fists gently and interlacing his fingers through yours over the back of your hand.
His chest heaves as he catches his breath, nuzzling his nose against your neck then slowly rolling the two of you onto your sides, your back pressed tightly against his chest.
You feel content.
Whole and happy after so long.
So you bask in it.
Though there are many mistakes that you have not forgotten, you allow yourself some peace, if only for now.
His voice breaks through the haze of sleep threatening to pull you under, soft and gentle, such a sharp contrast from what you’ve grown accustomed to.
“I made you a promise, sweet Omega. One I will not break. You are all I could ever want and all I will ever need.”
Summary: Your father always said that if it weren’t for your presentation, he’d think you were an Alpha. There’s a reason for that. You knock on the door to his chambers softly, waiting until he beckons you inside to move.
When you do, you keep your eyes on the ground, even when you hear him rise and walk toward you.
“What’s wrong, my love?” He asks softly, taking your hands in his and squeezing them gently.
You let out a shuddering breath and finally raise your gaze to his.
“I accept full responsibility for the role I played in causing this war. I confess to treason and conspiracy against the crown, and I am willing to face the consequences of my actions,” you whisper, your voice wavering.
He stares at you for a long moment before tilting your chin up and kissing your lips softly.
“You only did what you did because of my actions. I am as much to blame as you are,” he replies after pulling away.
You look up at him with nothing but wonder and awe in your eyes.
“How can you forgive me for what I’ve done?” You wonder aloud.
He only shrugs and pulls you closer to him, his nose dragging along your neck.
“I could ask you the very same thing, Omega.” He scents you for a long moment, his hands coming up to cup your face when he finally pulls back to look at you again.
His eyes drink in your features, lingering for a long moment on your lips, and you can’t help but lick them.
His eyes flash up to yours and the scent of his arousal permeates the air.
It’s a delicate game the two of you play, testing each other, seeing who will break first.
Your hands rest gently on his chest, toying with a button on his shirt as you gaze into his eyes, asking, begging him to do something, anything.
He pushes your hair over your shoulder, his knuckles gently grazing your mark and a shiver races down your spine.
Slowly, he leans forward, his lips dusting over yours before he kisses the mark on your neck.
Your head tilts back slightly as his kisses roam the expanse of your neck, tongue darting out to taste you every now and then.
One of his hands wraps around your middle while the other gently holds the nape of your neck, tilting your head back further to give him more access.
A soft sigh flutters free of your lips and he basks in the sound.
“Will you let me have you, Omega?” He asks quietly, his lips never leaving your skin. “Will you let me feast on you?”
He can smell your arousal in the air, but he refuses to do anything until he has your spoken consent.
He needs to know that you want it as much as he does, that you need it just as badly as he.
“Please,” you finally whisper, opening your eyes and looking up into his with hunger and love clouding your vision.
He pulls you to the bed immediately, stripping you of your gown and dropping his trousers on the way.
He lays you down gently, hands soft as feathers against your skin. Once you’re comfortable on your back, you take a deep breath.
Here, surrounded by his scent, you feel safe.
His shirt is the next thing to fall, until he is standing before you completely bare, devouring your figure with the eyes of a man starved.
“Let me taste you, Omega. It has been too long since I’ve had you on my tongue,” he whispers, sinking to his knees before the bed.
His hands find your thighs and he tugs you down until your womanhood is close enough for him to devour.
Your skin is warm against his hands, and by the Gods has he missed having you all to himself.
Slowly, he leans forward to taste your essence, a groan tumbling from his chest at the addictive flavour that’s so unique to you.
He pulls your legs over his shoulders and presses his mouth to your core, drinking up everything you have to offer and then some.
Once he’s satisfied, he focuses his efforts on your clit, sucking it harshly and massaging it with his tongue all at the same time.
A moan falls from your lips and your back arches, pushing your breasts up for his hungry eyes to gaze upon.
Your fingers find their way into his hair, tugging on the long brown locks as he brings you closer and closer to the edge.
Pleased with your reaction, he slips a finger into your sopping hole, holding back a grin when he feels you clench around the digit.
After a few gentle thrusts, he pushes a second finger into you, pressing against your walls and stretching you gently while continuing his assault on your clit.
Soon, it all becomes too much, and your release washes over you like a wave on the sand.
He fucks you through it, waiting until your body relaxes before finally pulling his mouth and fingers away.
You watch through hooded eyes as he climbs over your naked body, bringing your legs to wind around his waist before dropping his head and kissing you.
You can taste yourself on him as his tongue finds yours, and it only makes it more erotic.
He grins against you softly, each thrust of his hips pushing his cock through your swollen wet folds until you’re moaning against his mouth.
“Please, Alpha,” you beg softly, digging your head into the soft furs of his bed as he continues to rub his length over your clit.
He reaches between your bodies to line himself up with your entrance and then, with one firm push of his hips, he’s fully sheathed within your hot, aching walls.
A gasp flies from your throat and you squeeze your eyes shut at the fullness, basking in the feeling of finally having him inside of you again.
It’s a type of wholeness that you’ve never experienced before.
He gives you a few moments to adjust, peppering kisses to your breasts in an attempt at taking your mind away from the pinch of pain at being stretched so much after so long.
Eventually, you grind your hips up to his, silently asking for more.
Never one to refuse his Queen, James pulls his hips back then slams them forward, fucking into you roughly.
A cry of pleasure leaves your lips and you dig your nails into his shoulders as he starts a quick, rough pace, each thrust hitting deeper than the last until you’re sure you’ll be walking strangely.
The stench of sex is thick in the air, and you’re more than happy to bask in it.
A light sheen of sweat covers your body as you meet his thrusts, your cunt clenching every time his pelvis rubs against your clit.
It’s not long before you feel the coil in your belly tighten again, your husband bringing you so close to the edge.
“I want to knot you, Omega. Want to fill you up with my seed... my pups... want to see you grow round with our children,” he whispers against your breast, biting your nipple then soothing the sting with his tongue.
One of his hands finds its way between your bodies again and focuses on your clit, a satisfied smile finding his face when you clench around his cock.
“That’s it, sweet Omega. Cum for me, cum for your Alpha.”
You do exactly that, gushing around his length as he fucks you through the most intense orgasm of your life.
And he doesn't stop.
Even when your legs begin to shake and you feel like you may pass out, he continues, fucking you harder and faster in an attempt at chasing his own orgasm.
Your mouth is dropped open and your eyes are squeezed shut as he continues using your body, bringing you wave after wave of pleasure.
What pushes him over the edge, though, is the sight of his bond mark on your neck, healthy and strong as ever.
He cums inside of you, paints your walls white and fills you with his seed until you’re sure it’s going to burst out of you, and then he fills you with his knot, too.
You stay there, his cock locked inside of you, while the two of you catch your breath.
He carefully rolls onto his side, pulling you with him and being careful of where the two of you are connected.
“Are you all right, Omega?” He asks softly, his loving eyes searching yours as you snuggle closer to him.
You hum, your nose nestled against his neck as you take deep breaths of his scent.
He hugs you closer to his body, his warmth enveloping you and making you feel safe and secure as you scent him.
His fingers trail up and down your spine as he, too, relaxes, happy to finally have you in his bed...in his arms. Where you belong.

The cool wind bites at your cheeks as you stare across the courtyard to where the traitor is hauled onto the platform, the executioner stepping on right afterward.
His eyes find yours but you feel no fear. No, all you feel is anger.
With a strong arm wrapped around your waist, your husband keeps you grounded in the present moment.
“For the crimes of treachery and conspiracy against the crown, you are sentenced to death by beheading,” you announce, your eyes never leaving the ones of the man who betrayed your Kingdom.
“If you have any last words, speak them now. Though I doubt the Gods will be listening.”
The man only glares at you, his mouth remaining closed.
You raise your gaze for a second, locking with the executioner, and nod, then look back at the traitor.
The axe comes down with tremendous force, and then his head falls from the platform into the basket with a sickening thud.
Your stomach churns at the sight of his body falling, but you remain strong as you address the crowd.
“Let this be an example of the consequences of betraying your King and Queen. Your Kingdom. You will not be successful, and you will not survive,” you say firmly.
Everyone bows to you and you feel your husband's arm tighten around your waist.
“Anyone who dares make an enemy of my wife, who so much as thinks anything unpleasant toward her, will face the same fate as him,” he nods toward the headless corpse.
The crowd stays bowed and you feel a smile tug at the corner of your mouth.
You turn around to face the members of your guard and your council, only to see them all bowing to you as well.
Slowly, James follows, kneeling and bowing his head, giving you full control in front of all of his people and all of his men.
You reach out and brush your fingers over his shoulder, silently allowing him to rise to his feet again.
He does, only to take your hand and kiss your knuckles.
“The bodies of he and Sharon will be burned tonight, as will those of all the other traitors. And then our Kingdom will be purged of this plague,” he whispers, leading you inside as everyone begins to rise.
You smile gently at him and nod, taking his hand and bringing it to your stomach.
“Good. You have created a safe place for us to raise our children, then.”
His eyes widen and he looks between your face and your stomach in shock.
“I was not sure if they would survive after being held captive, but the midwife says that everything seems healthy,” you whisper.
His eyes water and he pulls you into a tight embrace.
“I love you, Omega. You have given me far more than I could ever ask for, and I may never be able to repay you for it.”
You sigh happily and hug him back, “you will spend the rest of your days trying, I hope.”
He chuckles, pulling back to look at you, his fiery wife.

“I truly do not understand why we need to follow such archaic patriarchal customs!” You complain for the thousandth time, tugging against the rope binding your arms behind your back.
Your brother and your father exchange glances while your mother smiles softly at you, reaching through the carriage window to brush your hair back.
"You must understand why we’re doing this, (Y/n). If there were any other way, we would take it.” You hum sarcastically, not believing a single word she’s saying.
Marrying you off is the easiest way to forge an alliance between the two kingdoms. That much is beyond obvious. But why they’re sending you to marry a man more than twice your own age is beyond you.
“Must I really go?” Your voice is a soft whimper, a final desperate plea for them to rethink their decision. And for a moment you see regret flash over your mother’s face.
“I wish things were different, my dear,” she whispers, leaning forward and pressing a kiss to your forehead. “But you will one day see that this is what’s best for your kingdom. You have a duty, as I did, and as your brother does. We must do what is right, even if it is the least favourable option for some of us.”
You shake your head, tugging out of her grip and grinding your teeth together.
“Fine.”
Your one word is enough to have your mother stepping away from the carriage with a sad look in her eyes.
“If you think that we will not miss you, you are wrong,” your father says, taking a step towards you.
“Clearly my presence alone is not enough for you to rethink your decision,” you snap, not wanting to hear them try and make themselves feel better about this situation.
“You may grow to like it there,” your mother tries, “You’ll be married and become queen. You may not love your husband, but you may find friendship within him.” You look at her for a long moment before turning and facing the guard sitting across from you.
“At least try, (Y/n). Attempt to be agreeable,” your father pleads softly.
You say nothing, and they take that as the end of the conversation.
The carriage starts moving along the gravel road, bumping and jostling you far more than you’d like, but you can’t steady yourself because of your bound arms.
You stay silent for nearly an hour, having nothing to say to the people with you until the ropes start to chafe uncomfortably on your wrists.
“May I be released from my bonds?” The two guards sitting across from you exchange glances for a moment before one of them speaks.
“We are under strict instructions not to cut them until we have reached our destination. My apologies, your highness.”
You huff a sigh and slouch forward, twisting your hands and trying to find a way to slip from them.
“You’ll only make the burns worse,” Wanda whispers from beside you, trying her best to get you to stop struggling. You turn your glare to her, only to soften your features shortly after.
“What do we know of my husband,” you sneer the words then raise your eyebrows at the guards, daring them to say anything.
“He has never before wed. He’s had omegas to quell his ruts but never before has he had a wife. You will be the first.”
You hum your agreement.
First and last, if you have anything to do with it. Your marriage with your husband will not last long, and neither will his life.

The King doesn’t look his age. He doesn’t look twenty years your senior. No, he’s handsome.
You’d imagined he’d be wrinkled and greyhaired. But the man before you, the Alpha before you is very good-looking.
Hard blue eyes and dark brown hair, and a physique that the men in your kingdom wish they could achieve. He’s easily a full head taller than you, if not more, and his body is thick with muscle that he must use to conquer both Kingdoms and Women.
His hair is pulled back in a tight bun and his hands are clasped gently in front of himself, one flesh and one metal.
Ah, so the rumours are true.
You stand before the King and his righthand man with your arms bound behind your back, a defiant scowl on your face.
“May we present her Royal Highness, Princess (Y/n) (Y/l/n), of Lothiella. And His Majesty, King James, of Veronia.” The King bows, but you stay standing tall and defiant, which surprises everyone but those who know you.
“You will bow to your king, girl,” A woman sneers from beside him, her hair as yellow as corn silk.
You raise your brows at her.
“Is that any way to speak to your future queen?” You question, cocking your head to the side.
The courtyard is silent until the King lets out a chuckle.
“It’s alright, Sharon. The Princess needs time to get settled.”
He walks towards you, pausing when he’s right in front of you.
He seems so much larger like this. Thick with muscle and towering over you without even trying. He’s an intimidating man, but you’re not afraid.
He must smell that. Smell the spicy yet warm defensive cinnamon rolling off you in waves of cinnamon.
“You’re fiery, Omega. Is that why they delivered you to me gift wrapped so nicely?” The way his lips turn upwards has you glaring at him, a tsunami of cinnamon assaulting his nostrils.
“They bound me to prevent me from escaping on my travels here. Because they were wise enough to know I’d rather die at the hands of a wicked beast than spend a moment here with you.” The words are spat with malice and poison, but he only laughs as if you’re a puppy bearing your teeth at him.
“You’re cute, Omega. But surely you must know that I am a wicked beast.”
He snaps his fingers then nods towards you, ignoring the growl that rises from your chest.
“Have her highness prepped. We sign the papers in an hour and the wedding is at sundown.”

“And now, may the King welcome his new queen with her first dance,” the announcer says, voice booming and echoing through the ballroom. You want to fight your new husband as he takes your hand and leads you to the centre of the floor, right where all eyes can see you.
The two of you bow to each other, you suppressing a growl at the action while he simply seems bored.
His hand is placed gingerly on the small of your back, metal flexing and cooling your skin through the fabric of your gown.
The music begins, as does the dance. It is practiced and perfected, each step measured perfectly to the nearest millimetre.
If your mother were here she’d be proud of how lady-like you’re being.
The perfect Omega Princes.
Queen, now.
He spins you, the skirt of your gown billowing out around your legs.
“You look lovely,” he murmurs, his fingers splaying ever so slightly on your back.
“Do not pretend that this is anything but political,” you hiss in his ear, your face a mask of serene beauty, but your words have the bite of a viper.
“I want nothing to do with you, and I will not bow to you. This marriage will not last long, you mark my words.”
He steps back with the music, extending his arm and spinning you gently before pulling you back into his embrace.
“Do you think that I want this? I was forced into this, the same as you. However, I thought I might be able to make the most of your company, seeing as it is your purpose to bear my children. We may as well be civil.”
It takes nearly all of your self-control not to rip his jugular out, and he must smell the anger bubbling within you because he chuckles.
“I will bear no children for you. I am not a mare to be bred, do you understand?” He dips you abruptly, then yanks you back up just as fast, but you’re sure the movement looks tender to those looking on.
His nose is far too close to your scent gland, close enough to scent you and mark you as his if he were so inclined.
“I am a King and I will take what I want from you. You are my Omega, my wife, and it is your duty to obey me.” Your nails dig into his shoulder, the action making him wince slightly.
“I am not your Omega, and your wife only in title. And if that is how you truly see it, then I am also the Queen of your people and you will respect me.”
A soft growl bubbles in his chest at how stubborn you are, but he says nothing otherwise, and the rest of the dance is completed in silence.
“Come, my Queen,” he sneers your new title as the crowd applauds. “I think it is time we consummated our marriage, wouldn’t you agree?” You gnash your teeth together but offer him a sickeningly sweet smile, mind immediately going to the opportunity at hand.
“Of course, My King.” Acid drips from your voice and he all but rolls his eyes.
“The Queen and I take our leave for the night. We thank you for your gifts and your wishes and invite you to stay as long as you wish. Feast on the food, drink the ale, and enjoy yourselves as we will be.” Bellows of laughter erupt and you stop yourself from stomping on the King’s foot.
He turns and ushers you out of the ballroom, his hand far too tight in your own.
“If you would be so kind, my King, I would like to exchange my gown for something more comfortable. And I am sure there are many things you need to prepare for the consummation, given your age.” You smile an innocent smile and the King grinds his teeth together but lets go of your hand.
“You will come directly to my chambers once you’re done, do you understand?” You nod your head ‘yes’ bow swiftly, then turn on your heel and walk to your chambers, all the while feeling his eyes on your figure.
Alphas are so predictable.
Once safely in your chambers, you begin shedding the layers of your gown with the help of your lady-in-waiting.
“Wanda, fetch me the silk pouch beneath my pillow,” you say softly, pulling on a simpler gown that will have to suffice for tonight.
Your heart is racing in your chest as Wanda brings you the pouch, and you quickly pull the items out.
The garter gets tied tightly around your upper thigh, the dagger sliding comfortably into the sheath and a small vial of poison fitting in beside it.
When you drop your skirts back down, Wanda is staring at you in shock.
“You mean to kill the King?” She asks in a hushed whisper.
You fluff your hair up and inspect yourself in the mirror for a moment before nodding and turning to the door.
“We will not remain imprisoned in this Palace, Wanda. You mark my words.” With that, you take your leave and walk down the dimly lit hallway towards the King’s Chambers.
To distract yourself from the anxiety of that task you’ll be doing, you take in your surroundings.
The Palace is nice, that much is obvious. A place of wealth, if the marble floors and thick furred rugs covering them are any indication. It’s not nearly as flashy and overwhelming as some other Palace’s you’ve been in, but you don’t see that as a reflection of the New King’s character.
Before you know it, you’ve reached the King’s door.
Hesitant fingers knock against the oak door, and he beckons you inside gruffly.
His scent engulfs you immediately, cedar and sage and something so musky and delicious that it has your mouth watering. The thick, powerful aroma pulls you inside, draws you in and makes you feel far more comfortable than it should.
The King’s chambers are simple. A grand bed sits against the far wall, taking up far more space than a bed should. Across is a wardrobe, and in the corner near the balcony doors is a desk where the King is currently seated, eyes focused on a document.
“Come in. There’s wine on the cart. It should help loosen you up, given how uptight you are. I can only imagine the strain that bedding you will be.” You take a deep breath and, to his surprise, say nothing. No, instead you walk to the cart and keep your back to him while your fingers silently raise your skirts.
The vial is in your hand, fingers trembling slightly as you unscrew the cap and pour the contents into one of the goblets, filling it with wine right after. You tuck the vial back in your garter, then fill the other goblet and make your way over to the king, trying desperately to calm your racing heart.
He sets down the document and looks at you for a moment before nodding to the desk in front of himself, urging you to sit. You do, sitting on the mahogany desk and offering him the goblet with the poison.
He takes it, but before you can take a sip from yours he pulls that one from you too, setting it down on the desk beside you.
His hand comes up to gently caress the side of your face, his thumb sliding down to linger on your lips while he takes a deep breath through his nose, eyes flashing amber at the scent of you. That sweet omega scent that radiates off of you in waves.
“There is no need for us to have separate goblets, my darling. You are my wife. So have a sip, go on. What’s mine is yours after all.” You offer him a smile and shake your head.
“How will we unwind if we only share this amount?” He stands up, towering over you and pushing his way between your legs.
“We will simply refill it, darling. Now, have a sip.” You press your lips into a tight line, and the king grins at you, flesh fingers pushing on your cheeks until your lips pop open.
He pours some of the wine into your mouth, watching with dark eyes as a single drop runs down the side of your mouth, over your neck and getting absorbed by the material of your dress, forever staining the fabric.
You hold the wine in your mouth, trying desperately to maintain your composure, and the man between your legs only chuckles.
He leans in, lips gingerly brushing over yours before he speaks.
“If you want to kill me, you’ll have to do better than that.” And then he’s kissing you, sucking the wine right out of your mouth and saving you from the fate that was meant for him.
He pulls away and spits the wine directly onto the floor, his hands yanking your skirts up and for a moment you’re afraid he’ll take you right then and there.
As you’re beginning to fight back, he pulls the dagger out of its sheath and slams it into his desk, the blade stuck deep in the wood.
His eyes stay on yours as he backs up a step, then two, and then he turns and walks to the bed.
Your chest heaves as you watch him pull his shirt off, the encounter having scared you but also making heat pool in your lower belly.
He glances at you over his shoulder, muscles in his back flexing for a moment while his eyes darken at the scent of your arousal.
“What are you waiting for? We have a marriage to consummate, don’t we?”
You swallow hard and push yourself off of the desk, walking over to him reluctantly because you know that you could very well be killed for refusing him. And a small, twisted part of you doesn’t want to refuse him. No, the alpha before you is strong and big and everything that your inner omega desires.
He eyes you up and down as if you’re nothing more than a mare to be bred, and your lip curls in disgust.
He chuckles, taking a step towards you, heat and pheromones rolling off of his toned chest and making your head spin.
“Are you going to remove your garments, or are you wanting me to do that for you?” You glare up at him, maintaining complete eye contact as you yank your dress down, standing before him in nothing more than your empty garter.
Confidence oozes from you, the smell tangy and citrusy like someone is forcing oranges down his throat, but something about it is intriguing.
Never has he met such a confident and fierce omega.
He breaks the staring contest first, his eyes raking over your naked body and devouring every inch of you. A smirk forms on your lips and you cross your arms over your chest, accentuating your bust and jutting your hip out slightly to the side as you both see and smell his body’s reaction to you.
“What are you waiting for, oh great King? We have a marriage to consummate.” His eyes dart up to yours, the blues devoured by his pupils, then grabs your waist and pushes you onto the bed.
The breath leaves you for a moment, but when it returns you wish it hadn’t. You’re completely surrounded by his scent. No matter which way you turn your head you can’t escape it.
He watches you as he sheds his trousers, hard cock springing free and dripping with precum.
Your eyes widen slightly and you look from his member to his face a few times, the shock evident in your expression.
You knew alphas were big, but you’re not sure if he’ll fit inside you.
“Hands and knees, Omega. Present for me.” You shake your head, far too stubborn to do that, and he growls, grabbing you by your ankles and forcing you to roll onto your stomach.
His metal hand is on your back, forcing your torso to stay pinned to the bed while his flesh hand hoists your hips up, pussy presented for him, just like an omega should.
He groans at the sight of you and leans down, nose trailing over your inner thighs and inhaling deeply.
“A sweet omega,” he murmurs, fingers pulling your lower lips apart to expose you completely to him.
A snarl rips from your chest and you wiggle your hips away from him, warning him.
A harsh smack to your backside makes you yelp, body instinctively submitting, back arching for him.
“I am not your omega,” you spit, venom lacing the words. He only chuckles and stands back up to his full height, cock pressed against your slit and quickly getting covered in your slick.
“Oh really?” He thrusts through your folds a few times before pulling back, the tip teasing your entrance.
“Tell me then, who has had you before? Huh? What other alpha has feasted on you? Has forced you to submit? Who else has had this sweet omega cunt before me?” he slowly pushes in, groaning at how tight you are while you grip the bedsheets beside your head, the feeling so foreign yet so right.
He only makes it a few inches in before he’s met with resistance and he’s shocked.
Of course, he had been told that you were an untouched omega, but with the attitude you have, he wasn’t sure.
His hold on your hips softens for a moment, and he rubs his flesh hand along your spine.
“You are untouched. Untarnished by other men.” You growl softly, not liking the fact that he’s aware of your purity.
“Get on with it. Or is your knot too old? Are you unable to knot me because you’ve had far too many years of- oh!” He pushes into you roughly, forcing every thick inch of his manhood into you and keeping it there.
You’re stuffed full of his alpha cock and your tiny little pussy looks so pretty taking it all. He can’t wait to make you take his knot too.
Your attitude is gone for a moment, the mixture of pleasure and pain making your eyes roll back into your head, slick coating the inside of your thighs and dripping down onto the bed.
“Nothing to say now, huh, Omega?” The use of your title makes your pussy clench, your body’s natural reaction to having such a powerful and perfect alpha making you submit to him.
“You’re gonna take my cock nice and deep in your pussy, and then you’re gonna take my knot too. You’re gonna be my obedient little omega and you’re gonna swell nice and round with my pups.”
You want to growl, you try to, but the only noise that comes out is a soft mewl.
The alpha behind you chuckles softly, rolling his hips a few times before starting up a steady pace.
“Maybe I should mark you, little omega. Really show everyone who you belong to.” This time you do growl, the sound warning and threatening.
“Mark me and I will tear your knot off with my teeth and spit it -oh gods... spit it right back in your mouth.” You hate how good he feels inside of you, how right it feels to have his thick alpha cock right inside of your cunt.
He only laughs, hips slowing for a long moment before he starts up a brutally quick pace, his hands holding tight to your hips and forcing you to feel every inch of him.
The thick ring of muscle at the base of his cock starts to inflate, and for a moment you’re afraid. You’re not sure if he’ll fit inside of you.
“You gonna take me like a good omega? Huh? Gonna let me breed you all nice?” You whine softly, back arching further against your will, but the alpha behind you howls in delight.
Any semblance of propriety is thrown out the window as your primal urges take over, pheromones and the stench of sex filling your nostrils and making your eyes roll back.
The coil in your belly tightens, it squeezes tightly then snaps hard, sending you spiralling into an orgasm.
Your walls clamp down hard on his cock and he snarls at the feeling, eyes burning a bright Amber at the pleasure.
He drapes his body over yours, one hand supporting his weight on top of you while the other shoves your head to the side, baring your neck for him.
Hips thrusting wildly, he chases his own release, stuffing his knot inside of your tight channel just as he cums.
He paints your walls white, coats them with his seed and pumps you full, his swollen knot preventing any from spilling out.
His teeth find their way to your throat, biting down hard on the tender flesh and embedding deep in the skin, marking you as his. Showing the world that you are claimed, owned.
The feeling of his teeth in your neck and his knot in your pussy has your orgasm continue, or maybe a new one starts, but either way, you cannot form a single coherent thought, not with the way he feels inside of you.
The rawness of the new bond between the two of you shakes him to his core, and he’s surprised for a moment at how strong it is. He shakes off the thought, though, and pulls his teeth back only to lave over the spot gently with his tongue.
Your thighs tremble, entire body aching and spent from the intensity of mating, and the King takes note of that quickly. He rolls the both of you onto your sides, his knot still locking you together, but the new position allows you to relax into the bed, eyelids heavy.
“As much as you resent it you are my omega,” he whispers, voice low and husky in your ear and your walls flutter around his knot at it, making him groan softly.
You take a deep breath, sleep tugging at your mind, but you’ve one more thing to say before you allow yourself to rest.
“You may think that I am your omega, but I assure you that I am not.”
He’s quiet, thinking about your words, about your vigour and determination even long after you’ve fallen asleep and his knot has deflated.
He keeps his cock warm in your body to ensure his seed takes root. Or at least, that’s what he tells himself.
He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t intrigued by you.
Your very existence tests the extent of his limits, and he’s sure you won't stop until you’ve pushed every limit and broken every boundary he has in place.
And something inside of him is eager for that to happen.
~*~
The sound of birds singing pulls you from your slumber, and for a moment you’re confused.
This is not what your chambers look like.
The events of the previous day come rushing into your mind and you look around, ears peeled and nose sniffing the air for any trace of your new husband.
He’s gone. The only evidence that he was ever there in the first place is the throbbing mark on your neck and the ache between your thighs.
You pull the blankets up to cover your chest and swing your legs over the edge of the bed, about to get up and leave when there's a soft knock on the door.
You don’t even answer, no, the person lets themselves in and offers you a friendly smile.
“Good morning, Your Majesty. I trust that you’re well-rested?” You nod, recognizing the woman as your new personal guard.
You push yourself to your feet and she frowns, moving to your side and gingerly pushing your shoulder until you’re seated again.
“His majesty has demanded that you remain in bed to allow his seed to take root.” You raise your eyebrows at her and scoff, shaking your head.
“Tell his Majesty that he can kiss my ass,” you reply, standing up and stretching, wincing slightly when you feel warmth trickle slowly down your leg.
“Natalia, will you go fetch me something to wear? And make sure it’s suitable for outdoors, I’d like to visit the archery range today.”
Visit the archery range you do. After several hours of horseback riding, and acquainting yourself with the stable staff, you’re testing out your new bow.
Arrows fly through the air and hit the targets effortlessly, and you feel some tension leave your shoulders.
“I thought I told you to stay abed today.” Just like that, the tension returns.
“I thought I told you that you cannot tell me what to do, no matter how hard you try.” You speak without removing your eyes from your target, adjusting your grip the slightest bit while the King chuckles.
“Last night would beg to differ.”
You release the arrow, hitting the target directly in the centre, then turn to face your husband.
“Need I remind you just how obvious your desperation for me was? You need me. You want me. Do not forget that your body will betray you every time. Even now,” your eyes dart down to the erection straining against his trousers, “you want nothing more than to bend me over. You cannot deny that you long for me.” He takes a step towards you, growling once in warning.
“You will watch your tongue.” You raise your brows, challenging him and taking a step closer.
“Or what? What will you do, oh mighty King?”
His metal hand is gripping your throat in the blink of an eye, not hard enough to hurt but enough to show you that he could hurt you if he wanted to.
He backs you up, forces you backwards until your back hits a training post.
“Queens are not so hard to come by,” he murmurs, eyes dark.
You only hum, body thrumming with arousal as his grip tightens the slightest bit.
“At your age, they may be harder to please.” His brows furrow and he takes a breath through his nose, shaking his head with a soft chuckle.
“And you said I was desperate for you. You’re soaking through your skirts, aren’t you?” You say nothing, only pull your bottom lip in a silent dare for him to check.
Feeling the change in the air, the electricity flowing through your bond, he does just that.
He flips your skirts up and shoves his flesh hand between your thighs, letting out a sound of surprise when he finds you bare and desperate.
You elbow is at his wrist, shoving it away from your throat and then you’re lifting a foot to the back of his knees, sending him tumbling to the ground.
Pouncing on him, you shove him onto his back and straddle his torso, your heart jumping in your chest.
“Your age must truly be catching up with you,” you muse, “I thought you were supposed to be a big strong alpha. But no, you were easily overpowered by an omega.” He growls from a low place in his chest but makes no move to get up. Instead, he lets you have your fun.
“What will you do, Omega? Will you kill me?” You purse your lips, pondering this for a moment before pulling a knife from its secure place on your calf.
“Maybe I will.” He’s surprised for a moment, that much is obvious, and you can’t help the pride that swells in you as you raise the knife high above your head then slam it back down, only for both of your wrists to be held captive in his metal hand.
He flips you over, slams your back against the ground and pins your arms above your head. His legs force yours apart, his bulge pressed tightly against your core.
“Do not test me, little omega,” he growls, leaning down to nip at the mark on your neck. A jolt shoots through your entire body but he pulls away after a moment longer, rising to his feet and adjusting himself in his trousers.
“Do not forget who’s mark you wear on your neck.” With that, he turns and walks away, leaving you lying alone in the grass, heart thundering in your chest.
You push yourself into a seated position with a huff, a frown painting your face as you watch him walk away.
An arrogant alpha. What else did you really expect?

“I know that we have not always seen eye to eye. That we have fought, and we have argued. But now, I hope we can focus our attention on one single goal.”
The King paces around his office slowly, his hands clasped behind his back as he chooses his words carefully.
In the days since your disappearance, his inner Alpha has broken free more times than he’d like to admit, and he’s dangerously close to going feral.
“All I want is to protect my Kingdom and have my wife back. I know you want your sister back, your friend, your daughter, your Queen.” His eyes bounce between everyone in the room, all the different faces, ranks, and presentations all here because of you.
“We must put our differences aside and focus on our one main goal.” A heavy sigh passes his lips and he shakes his head, “I realize that I have been the root of a fair amount of these... differences in the past, and I will take full responsibility for that. I recognize the consequences of my actions and I am willing to accept them fully, but I need your help now.
“There is a traitor amongst my closest confidants. I will divulge no more details than that, but you all must know that what you say and do matters more now than it ever has. I know not what their plan is, but I know it is going to be damaging and I know that they are not concerned for the lives of the innocents. Already they have attempted to attack the village, though their attempts were thwarted by my household guard.”
He pauses for a moment, turning to the window and looking out across the vast expanse of land that belongs to him.
“We will require soldiers. Strong fighting men... and women... willing to fight for their Kingdoms, for what they believe in. For their freedom. We will require riders, archers, spies, weapons, and people willing to remain with the civilians to keep them safe.”
His eyes drop to the floor and a wave of guilt washes over him as he instinctively rubs his neck, feeling the loneliness that plagues you through your bond.
“I have not been a good King, and I’ve been an even worse husband. A terrible Alpha, and I will suffer for what I’ve done. I am suffering for what I’ve done. Were I able to go back and do it all differently, I would.”
He slowly turns and his eyes are distant, glowing faintly red and putting the people in the room slightly on edge.
“I love my wife dearly, and I would die for her in a heartbeat, without question. As I would die for my Kingdom. I cannot excuse my actions and I will not attempt to explain them. All that I will share is my commitment to protecting my Kingdom and saving my wife, at any cost.”
Finally, his eyes refocus, this time with determination behind them.
“I brought you here with the hopes that you’ll help me, help my kingdom, and help my wife. A war is on the horizon, and lives will be lost. I am willing to put mine on the line if it means I can protect those who I've wronged. Those who do not deserve this war.”
He pulls his shoulders back and rises to his full height, looking your father right in the eye.
“I ask for your alliance, your help in returning my Queen and winning this war. For our Kingdoms, our people, and our families.”
Slowly, the King rises and meets James in the centre of his office, an unreadable expression on his face.
The Queen rises with him, stepping in front of her husband to look at the brunet closely.
“I know not what you have done to my daughter, but if she does not return, it will be my wrath you face.”
Her words drip with acid and her eyes are no better, but James does not back down. He has earned this woman’s anger, and he will embrace it with open arms if it means he can have you by his side once more.
“Whatever you need will be yours, though we will keep some warriors in our Kingdom in case the battle comes to us. You are correct in that we want the same thing, and we will go to any lengths to acquire it.”
James nods once, relief hanging heavily in the air as the tension slowly melts away.
Elden watches your husband with a sour expression on his face as he approaches.
“We have reason to believe that she was taken West, past the forest.” James carefully raises a hand and rests it on the younger man’s shoulder.
“There is no one I would trust more to look for her than you. Will you ride west? Not for me, but for her?”
Although Elden does not like the man, he does respect him at this moment.
“I will. I’ll leave as soon as my horse is readied, and I will find her.”
He makes the promise to the King, to himself, and to the Gods.
You're his younger sister and he’ll be damned if he isn’t the one who finds you.
“We will send our warriors through the mountains so as to not raise suspicion. We do not want the traitor to know that we know what they are planning. I can only imagine what they’ll do to (Y/n) if they found out,” your mother says softly, shaking her head.
James nods, trying to shake the thoughts from his own head as well.
He does not want to imagine what they’re already doing to you, much less what they’ll do if they find out he knows.
“We must act as though nothing is wrong. That she has simply run away and we are readying a search party. They will not attack while so many of us remain here. When Elden returns with his findings, I will formulate a plan of attack. Until then, we continue with our everyday tasks.”
Your Mother and Father nod their agreement, as does Elden. Steve, Natalia, and Sam don’t need to move a muscle for the King to know that they’re behind him through thick and thin, ‘till the end of the line.
“Thank you. I am forever in your debt,” James says, bowing to the King and Queen.
The Queen shakes her head and takes hold of the collar of his tunic, yanking him down to be at her eye level.
“Bring back our daughter and consider your debt paid.”

You stare blankly at the barred wall in front of you, focusing only on the soothing feeling of your Alpha through your bond.
A door opens from down the hall, capturing your attention, though you keep your gaze locked on the bars.
“Sharon tells me you’ve not been eating,” he says once he’s standing before your cell.
Your eyes briefly flicker to the trays of untouched food covering the floor before returning to the bars across from you.
“Tell me... is it you who controls her, or she who controls you?” You ask, your voice as dull as your eyes.
He chuckles and crouches by the cell door, waiting until you look at him to finally speak.
“Between the two of us, just you and I, I would’ve much preferred having you as my Queen, my wife. I’ve always found Omegas to be far more... agreeable than betas.” He reaches his long spindly fingers through the bars and gently traces over your bond mark, grinning when you snarl at him.
You snap your head toward him and spit in his face, relishing in the look of shock that crosses his features until his hand wraps around your throat.
“That’s twice now that you’ve forgotten your place, one more and I will take you exactly as your husband did, only I will not apologize for forcing you to your knees because it is where a whore like you belongs.”
He releases your throat and rises to his feet, dusting off his tunic and fixing his collar.
“Eat. Or I will cut off your tongue and mail it to your husband.” With that, he takes his leave, leaving you alone in your tiny cell once again.
Your eyes drift to the cell across from yours, the only cell with a window, and you sigh heavily, trying to keep your breath from shaking.
Once your breath shakes you know the tears will follow, and the last thing you want is for these people to think that they’ve won.

Elden stares at the fortress in a mixture of shock and horror.
For how many years has this plan been underway? It must’ve been decades in the making for such a stronghold to be built and for so many soldiers to occupy the soil.
But finding the enemy isn’t enough. He needs to find you. He must.
With his hood pulled tightly over his head, he slides off of his horse and slowly makes his way down the hill toward the fortress.
There are few guards posted, and even fewer posted near the back, so he has his way in.
He will not return until he has laid eyes upon you.
He tries to slow his breathing as he approaches, to be as stealthy as possible, and the Gods must be smiling down upon him because he manages to press his back against the brick building without so much as one guard spotting him.
With his heart in his throat, he searches the side of the building for any entrance, any way in that could potentially lead to you, and his eyes land on a small window near the ground.
An entrance into what must be a cellar of some sort.
He slowly peaks through the window, checking for any guards who may thwart his plans, but is quickly relieved when he sees nothing but cells.
So this is the dungeon, then, he thinks to himself.
A movement in the cell directly across from the window catches his eye and he ducks a little lower down, freezing when he recognizes the face.
“(Y/n)!”
Your eyes snap to the window, disbelief colouring your features. You blink a few times and, when you’re sure he’s not going to disappear, scramble to your knees.
“Elden,” you whisper, looking down the hall to make sure no one's coming.
“You’re all right, thank the Gods. We’re going to free you, I swear it.”
Tears of joy fill your eyes and you shake your head, a million thoughts running through your mind but the only one you can get out is “I’m sorry.”
His brows pull together and he glances over his shoulder, making sure no one’s around before turning back to the window.
“What on Earth for?”
You sniffle and shake your head, dropping your gaze to your hands.
“It’s my fault. I... I conspired with them. I didn’t know what they planned I just... I wanted my revenge. Will you tell James that I’m sorry?”
It takes every ounce of self-control that your brother possesses not to tear the building apart to get to you.
“You can tell him yourself. Because you will be free, and these bastards will pay for what they’ve done to you, mark my words.”
Your bottom lip wobbles and you nod, trying to take deep breaths.
“I need to return to tell them of my findings, but I will come back for you, I promise. You needn’t worry. Just stay strong.”
You take another breath and nod again, watching as your brother flees.
He’s as lucky escaping the fortress as he was finding it, and within hours he’s returned to the Palace with his heart in his throat.
“Elden? Have you found anything?” Steve asks when the young man enters the King’s office.
James perks up, eager for news.
“They’ve built a great army right where you suspected. They have a fortress and she is kept in the dungeon of it. I saw her with my own eyes.”
A million different emotions flood through James’ body, the biggest being relief.
You’re okay.
You’re alive and well.
For now, at least.
“What were their numbers? How strong did they seem?” Steve asks, wanting more information about what the man saw.
“Near five hundred, I would say, though I did not see who might be inside the fortress. It’s at the base of a hill, if you’ve a map I can draw it out for you.”
Steve nods and hurries to fetch a map, leaving the two royals alone for a moment.
Elden takes a slow breath then looks at his brother-in-law with pain in his steely eyes.
“She wanted me to tell you that she’s sorry for the role she played in conspiring against you. She only wanted her revenge for whatever atrocities you’ve committed, but she never wanted this.”
James takes a deep breath and nods, rubbing his neck gently and trying with all his might to send you love.
He hopes you can feel it, that he can bring an ounce of warmth to where you sit alone in that dungeon.
But you will not remain there for long.
He has a plan, and soon it will be put into action.

“What is it that you truly want? You’ve been nothing but vague with me,” you whisper, keeping your eyes focused on the spines of the books in the library.
The man shrugs, his eyes flickering around to make sure no one can overhear.
“I want to overthrow him. I want him stripped of his royal title and I want him to pay for all the pain he’s inflicted upon people. Your husband is a monster, that, you already must know.”
You say nothing, instead, you pull a book free and flip it open.
“We need you to get closer to him.”
You snap the book closed and glare at the man, shaking your head.
“If I spend another moment with that man I may very well slit his throat.”
He grins, “such passion is admirable. But, if we wish to overthrow him, we must know what he knows. If he suspects usurpers in his court, then we will be lost. Which is where you come in, darling. You are to keep him off of our trail while we do the dirty work.”
You glare daggers at him and take a step away.
“Do not call me that.”
He chuckles and lifts his hands in surrender, then turns and walks away, leaving you alone in the library for a while.
After gathering your thoughts, you exit, only to bump directly into your husband on the way out.
His metal arm winds around your waist and he pulls you against his chest to steady you, lingering for a moment before stepping away and giving you space.
The scent of you fills his nose, serving to both calm and further anger his inner Alpha.
All he wants is to move away from his duties and responsibilities with you. He wishes to spend his days lounging around on soft furs in front of a fire, the glow of it against your naked body illuminating your heavenly figure.
But that, unfortunately, is not the reality he lives in.
No, he’s forced to be a King and make decisions to benefit his Kingdom, even if the repercussions harm you.
Harming you is something he’s done far too much and would never like to do again.
After the argument that took place, he realized that maybe, just maybe, you’re right. Perhaps, if the men of his council do not respect you, then they do not deserve to be on his council.
You take a half-step away from him and avoid his eyes, anger heavy on your scent.
Something more than anger though catches his attention.
He wrinkles his nose at the familiarity of it, trying to pinpoint who it is and where he’s smelled it before.
“Were you speaking with someone?” The question bubbles out of him before he can stop it, and you blink up at him in surprise.
A slow breath in allows you to keep your nerves calm before you speak.
“I was. A man approached me and asked for my assistance without realizing who I was. He quickly apologized and left.”
The lie sounds so obvious to your ears, but he only nods, trusting you.
That sends a spike of pain through your heart but you squash it.
You trusted him and he destroyed it. It’s only fair that you do the same.
“I was just coming to find you,” he says after a moment, steely eyes focused on your face. Your beautiful, lovely face.
“You were?” Another spike of anxiety has you wringing your hands together.
He nods, taking a step to the side and motioning for you to follow him out of the library.
You slowly comply, your heart in your throat.
He knows. He must know. That’s the only explanation.
You recognize the direction he’s taking you in and plant your feet, refusing to move an inch.
He must hear you stop, smell the apprehension radiating off of you, because he turns to look at you with the most gentle and earnest look in his eyes.
“Please. I just... I know I do not deserve it, but trust me for just a moment.”
You stare at him, straight into his eyes, and you search for any sign of hatred or malice.
When you find nothing but honesty and a hint of pain, you slowly nod and follow him into his office.
The very same office where he forced you to submit to him in front of his councilmen.
The same councilmen who are standing in the room now.
You stay pressed near the door, glaring daggers at your husband for bringing you into this situation again.
As you count the Alphas in the room, a familiar face catches your eye.
You look away quickly, hoping your husband didn’t notice the recognition on your face, and focus your attention on the man who brought you here.
“The way that I treated my wife was wrong. It was disgusting, barbaric, and the actions of a man who knows not how valuable his woman is,” he begins, taking a step back to be beside you, his hand landing gently on the small of your back.
You’re not the only one in shock at the King’s words.
Each face is a mirror of your own, staring at the brunet in confusion.
He said he couldn’t apologize.
Your stomach churns as your gaze finds the man conspiring against him, his own eyes locking on yours for a beat too long.
“Not only do I owe her an apology, but you all do as well. She is a Queen, the Queen of this Kingdom, and you will all treat her with the same respect you show me, if not more.” Slowly, he sinks to one knee, eyes on yours as he submits in front of his men, something unheard of.
Everyone watches, dumbfounded, but you’re in slight awe.
He would make himself so vulnerable in front of the men that would take his place without a shred of hesitation.
“You will all kneel, and you will all apologize,” he commands, his gaze never wavering from yours.
You watch, pride blooming in your chest, as the men slowly sink to their knees before you, mumbling out apologies while glaring at you.
The scent of anger permeates the air and you wrinkle your nose at the stench of it, focusing your gaze back on your husband.
He only nods at you, smiling gently, then drops his head to give you full control over him and his councilmen.
You watch them, allow them to linger on their knees for a moment longer before clearing your throat.
“You may all rise,” you say softly, watching as they lift to their feet.
James is the last to stand, and when he does his eyes never leave yours.
“You are all dismissed,” he commands softly, fingers twitching toward you.
Oh, how he aches, yearns, to hold you, caress you, but that is a privilege he lost.
The men all leave the room, your eyes connecting with the conspirators once more before he, too, is gone, leaving you alone with your husband.
“I thought admitting you were wrong would make you look weak,” you whisper, finally breaking the silence and daring to look into his eyes.
Those steely blues of his are so full of depth. Of pain and remorse and agony.
“It does. Never have I looked weaker in their eyes. But I would rather be weak than be without you.”
Your heart stutters and you need to look away from him, the weight of his gaze too much to bear as guilt gnaws on your stomach.
Gently, like the soft summer breeze, his fingers brush against the back of your hand. It’s a fleeting touch, but one that scalds your skin and sends sparks through your bond.
He pulls his hand away and drops his gaze, tension drawing his shoulders together.
“But now that I have shown how much I am willing to do for you, I must be prepared for backlash. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an uprising on the horizon. A war, even. I want you to be accompanied by a guard at all times to ensure your safety.”
Your bottom lip finds its way between your teeth and you shake your head as guilt punches your heart.
“Why did you do it?” You ask, finally drawing your gaze back up to his. “Why did you lie to me about Wanda?”
He blinks at you, surprised that you know the truth, then shrugs simply. “I couldn’t be the cause of your hatred toward your friend, your sister. She is all you had of your home, and I would not take that from you the way that I had taken near everything else.”
You nod, mulling over his words for a long, silent moment, then make your way slowly to the door.
“James?”
“Yes, my love?”
A shiver races down your spine at the whispered words and you risk a glance over your shoulder at him.
“Thank you.”
With that, you take your leave, not giving him even a moment to respond.
As you walk through the long corridor, you can’t stop the guilt and regret from swimming through you.
There’s no way you can continue doing what it is that you’re doing.
But telling him that you’re involved in something so treasonous would result in a fate worse than anything you’ve ever endured.
“Does he suspect anything?” The voice comes out of nowhere and makes you jump nearly a foot in the air.
You mentally scold yourself for getting so lost in your thoughts, but you regain your composure quickly.
“You will not speak so plainly to me,” you hiss, continuing on your way to your chambers.
The man trails after you, looking around to make sure no one is near, then grabs your forearm.
“Does he suspect anything?” He repeats, yanking your arm and forcing you to halt.
Fear flashes like ice through your veins and you pull free of his grip, glaring at him.
“No. And you will ask me nothing more.”
The man grinds his teeth together but reluctantly drops into a bow then straightens and turns the other way.
You stand there for a long while, pondering all the decisions that you made in your life that have brought you here, to this very moment.
Your thoughts are interrupted by a gentle hand coming to rest on your forearm.
“Your Majesty?”
You turn to the voice, offering Natalia a forced smile.
“Are you well?” She asks, eyeing you cautiously.
You take a deep breath then nod, smiling over her shoulder at Steve.
“I am, thank you. Would you accompany me into the village today? I have not been to check on the shelters since returning and I would very much like to see how they’re faring.”
She nods immediately and falls into a step beside you, bidding farewell to Steve along the way.
~*~
“The King has come to visit many times in your absence, and he has raised the donation amount as well!”
You raise your eyebrows and follow the small woman through the Omega shelter, smiling at the men and women you pass.
The fact that he would not only continue donating, but also physically visit the shelter means the world to you.
“I will be back tomorrow morning with fresh blankets and some men to help with repairs,” you tell her, taking her hand and giving it a squeeze as she leads you out of the building.
“Bless you, Your Majesty. Truly.”
You smile at her and bow your head in respect, then slowly trudge away from the shelter and toward the main road where Natalia and Sam await.
A familiar voice freezes you where you stand, however, your ears straining to pick up on what he’s saying.
“Bar the doors and the windows. And as soon as the village is quiet, start lighting the fires. I want few survivors. The King will be too busy trying to maintain the damage that he won’t notice the army.”
You clasp your hand over your mouth, your heart sprinting in your chest.
He can’t really mean... can he?
You turn to leave, to inform Natalia so that you can evacuate the village and catch the traitors redhanded, only to bump right into a familiar female form.
“Well, well, well. What have we here?”
With an iron-tight grip on your shoulders, the blond beta pushes you to the source of the voice, shoving you onto your knees in front of the men.
“Found this,” she punctuates the word with a kick to your stomach, “listening nearby. It seemed like she wanted to run back and inform the King.”
You glare up at Sharon then turn your gaze to the others.
“You Said you were to punish the King, not the innocents! Not kill women and children who have done nothing to harm anyone!”
The man grins and kneels in front of you, tilting your chin up with one finger and cocking his head to the side.
“You Omegas are all the same, as much as you hate to admit to it. You’re all so... concerned for the wellbeing of others... so easily controlled by your emotions.
You yank your chin free and glare up at him then spit on his face, watching in satisfaction as he jerks back.
He lets out a humourless chuckle and you shake your head at him.
“The King is far too smart. He will know and you will not get away with this.” Your words are venomous like the bite of a viper, but he’s unfazed.
“Perhaps,” he agrees, grabbing your cheeks and forcing you to pucker your lips.
“But by then it’ll be far too late.”
He releases your face and nods over your shoulder, but before you have time to see what he’s signalling, the world around you fades to black.
Summary: Your father always said that if it weren’t for your presentation, he’d think you were an Alpha. There’s a reason for that. Growing up in a world where Omegas are treated like garbage, you’ve fought for the respect that you have. Until you’re sold off to an old King desperate for a bride. But you will not lay down and present for your new husband. No, you will fight back.
A/n: So I lost energy halfway through this chapter then found it again lmao. I think this chapter is kinda cute and soft so I hope you guys enjoy! I love you all very much!

“Oh, thank the Gods you’re all right!” Your mother throws her arms around you as soon as you’ve returned to the Palace, her grip so tight that it hurts.
“How dare you put me through that!”
You pull away after a moment, saying nothing as your husband passes by to approach your father.
“Come now, we must clean you up. You as well, Lady Wanda,” your mother orders, taking your arm and guiding you to your chambers to change.
You’re silent as she prattles on and on about how worried she was, how disappointed she is that you would run away the way you did.
As much as you want to explain what happened, explain the way you’ve been treated and the treason going on in the Kingdom, you’re far too tired to say a single word.
So you sit in silence and allow her to put the blame on your shoulders.
You’re positive that if she found out what your husband did she’d either kill him where he stands or she’d pat your shoulder and tell you that such actions are to be expected from Kings.
You’re not sure which reaction would be worse.
“As much as I would like to catch up, mother, I am rather exhausted,” you finally say, wrapping a warm towel around your body and turning to face her.
She lets out a sigh and shakes her head.
“Your father and I will have words. I only hope his Majesty can forgive you for your actions. Lord knows Kings have killed their Queens for less.”
You grind your teeth together and bite back tears, hating the fact that she thinks it’s your fault.
Did you run away? Yes.
Was it for a very valid reason? Absolutely.
Your mother leaves and Lady Wanda enters moments later, a frown on her newly cleaned face.
“I will be spending the remainder of the day resting, Wanda.”
She nods, hesitating by the door before huffing out a breath and walking to your bedside.
“Your Majesty... are you not angry with me?”
You furrow your brows and sit up in the bed, confused out of your mind.
“Why would I be angry with you? The King told me of how he threatened you and your family if you did not share my location. I am only glad that no harm came to you.”
She blinks at you in surprise for a moment, caught off guard by your words.
The King lied on her behalf? Why?
“You are dismissed, Wanda. Go spend time with Pietro, I am certain he was worried for your safety.”
She bows her head and exits the room without another word, her mind occupied.
How could the King lie like that? And why? Why would he not tell the truth?
The answer strikes her like a blow to the stomach.
He was trying to protect her, protect your friendship.
But... why?
~*~
“You summoned me?” You ask, hands clasped gingerly in front of your gown as you enter the King’s office.
The room where he humiliated you in front of his councilmen.
“Yes... I did.” James rises to his feet and approaches you slowly, as if you’re a wild animal ready to lash out at any moment.
“I’ve spoken with your mother and your father. Though I have not shared explicit details, they understand that actions need to be taken to right the wrongs that have been committed.”
You roll your eyes.
You’ve done nothing wrong.
“How will you punish me this time, Your Majesty,” you spit out his title like poison and he sighs heavily.
“You are free to return to your Kingdom with your parents if you so choose.”
His words shock you into looking at him, and you see nothing but honesty in the depths of his ever blue eyes.
“My Kingdom will continue to support yours as if we are married but... I am hereby freeing you of your duties as my wife. You are no longer bound to these lands, to this Kingdom.”
Your heart trips over itself in your chest at his words and you blink up at him in shock.
He can’t be serious.
“What?”
He only lets out a soft chuckle and shakes his head.
“There is nothing I could say to make up for what I’ve done, and this is no apology. I am only trying to right the wrongs. You are unhappy here, Omega, and there is nothing I can say or do to change that. So I am letting you go. You want to go home, so home you shall go.”
You stare at him for a long while, pondering his words, his seriousness, before bowing your head.
“You are dismissed. I wish you a safe journey home and I hope you find true happiness there.”
You turn and leave as soon as he’s finished speaking, hoping to leave before he changes his mind.
“Will you explain what happened and why the King has changed his mind about having you as his wife?” Your mother asks as soon as you and Wanda are safely in the carriage with her and your father.
You let out a sigh then shrug.
“We are not compatible. That is all.”
She draws her brows together in disbelief.
“That man does not think you are not compatible. That is an Alpha who cares deeply for you and is trying to correct something he has done. What has happened that would leave him with no other choices than to free his Omega?”
You grind your teeth together and look out the window, refusing to talk about it.
All you want to do is push the memory down into the darkest corner of your mind and forget about it forever.
~*~
James sits at his desk with his head in his hands.
His Omega left.
He let her go.
His Alpha howls and mourns, wanting nothing more than to bury his nose in her neck and scent her again.
“The children’s orphanage has written to us, requesting their monthly payment.”
He furrows his brows and looks up at his friend, confused.
“What payment are they speaking of?” He’s never given to the orphanage before.
Steve swallows hard, knowing this may be a very sensitive topic.
“Your wife... she would often visit the children when she was in the village. She started giving them donations, bringing them food and clothing and dispatching members of your guard to help with repairs.”
His heart is heavy in his chest and he rubs his forehead.
Of course you did.
The title of Queen has never been better suited for anyone.
With each day that passes since you’ve left, he’s only realized what an important presence you became.
He never noticed how often you went into the village to interact with the people, your people, until now. It seems as if every day a new story emerges of how you’ve helped a different member of the kingdom in some way, shape, or form.
“Give them however much they require and let them know that the Queen will not be able to visit for a while,” he finally says, leaning back in his chair.
“Why did you do it?” Steve asks softly after a few moments, eyeing his King skeptically.
James huffs out a sigh and drops his head back, eyes squeezed shut.
He doesn’t need the blond to elaborate. He knows exactly what he’s talking about.
“I had no other choice. I could no longer keep her here. She said that being bonded to me was a fate worse than death. I do not wish to harm her. All I want is for her to be happy.”
A sad smile tugs at Steve’s lips and he nods, looking out the window.
“You care for her a great deal,” he whispers, not wanting to breathe the words too loudly for fear of his King getting angry.
“Of course I do. I would not have let her go if I didn’t.” James has never cared for someone like this.
Not once in his whole life.
His mother would speak of how much she loved his father and how his father loved her with his whole heart, but never has he understood what she meant until now.
If Winnifred were here, she’d beat him to a pulp for the way he’s treated you.
Steve opens his mouth to say something but is interrupted by the door opening and Natalia and Sam rushing in.
“We’ve scoured the entire Kingdom, Your Majesty, and there’s no sign of Sharon anywhere.”
James slowly rises to his feet and nods, his soul aching at the loss of his Omega.
The one woman who’s been able to crack his cold exterior and worm her way into his heart.
“Search again. We will not rest until she is found and held accountable for her actions.”
“What actions are those, your Majesty? With all due respect, you have told us nothing of what has happened. The Queen ran away only to be found nearly dying because she attempted to break her bond, and now you have let her go and we are calling Sharon a traitor? I would like to know what has happened,” Natalia says firmly.
James lets out another heavy sigh and shakes his head slowly.
“I broke our bond first. I listened to the words of Sharon and what I did to my Omega... to (Y/n)... it is unforgivable. And My wife has been harmed by Sharon as well, I know it must be her. No one else would dare lay a finger upon what is mine.”
But you’re not his. Not anymore. And you may never be his again.

Being back in Lothiella doesn’t feel as comforting as you thought it would.
Sure, it’s nice to be home, but you feel a little off.
Your mother has assured you time and time again that it’s just because you were gone for a while, it’s strange to be back home, but it’s more than that.
It feels wrong to be back in your Kingdom. Like this isn’t your home, it isn’t where you’re supposed to be.
There’s a longing in your soul that you can’t shake, regardless of the friends you see or the comforts you indulge in.
A piece of you is missing, a piece that you didn’t know you didn’t have until it was gone.
Your heart weighs heavily in your chest as you wander aimlessly through the gardens, searching for that missing piece though you know deep down you won’t find it in Lothiella.
You trace over the soft flower petals with one hand while the fingers of your other hand dance over the healed bond on your neck.
You miss him.
You’re not sure why, after everything he’s done to you, all that he’s put you through. But for some reason, you miss him.
It’s probably your inner Omega being whiney, you decide.
After all, you left him the day he reclaimed you. The bond is still fresh and makes itself known with every day that passes.
There are certain times when you’ll feel him, usually in the early hours of the morning and the late hours of the night.
You’ll feel his sorrow, his guilt, and the unfiltered longing that stretches its spidery fingers across your bond to tug at your heart.
More often than not, he’s on your mind, occupying your thoughts as if he owns them.
Every time you think of him, are reminded of him, a new bought of anger is fuelled only to be drowned by confusion.
He let you go.
He allowed you to leave with no consequences and no strings attached.
He simply allowed you to walk away.
“You are thinking of him again, aren’t you?”
You hum, unable to hide the direction of your thoughts even if you wanted to.
“If he is on your mind so often, you should go to him,” your mother says softly, resting a gentle hand on your shoulder.
“And tell him what? I do not wish to see him, not after what he has done to me.”
“Will you ever tell me the pain he has caused?”
Your bottom lip quivers as memories of the way he treated you fill your mind.
“It is not something you should ever be made aware of,” you whisper, turning to face her with tears in your eyes. “If you were to find out what he has done, how he has disrespected me... disrespected our bond and Lothiella, you would tear his throat out.”
Your mother gives you a soft smile and presses her forehead to yours.
“If you do not tell me, I may do that anyway.”
A wet laugh falls from your lips and you tug away from her, sniffling and shaking your head.
“I tried to sever the bond,” you confess, avoiding her eyes when you hear her suck in a sharp breath.
“And it nearly killed me to do so. The only reason I am here telling you this is because he saved my life. But after what he did, I would’ve gladly taken death over spending another moment with him.”
Your mother is silent for a long while, mulling over your words and trying to keep her emotions in check. She is a queen, after all.
“Is he aware that you attempted to rid yourself of the bond?” She finally asks.
She’s never heard of an Omega successfully removing a bond from a living Alpha.
“He is.”
She nods slowly, “if what he did was so heinous that you would rather be dead than at his side, I, as your mother, have a right to know.”
Her words take you by surprise. You had expected her to be on his side, to punish you for your actions.
You raise your gaze to hers and shake your head slowly.
“It is because you are my mother that I cannot tell you. I will not strain your heart with the details. All that you need know is that I have never been safe in his kingdom. He has snakes in his council that whisper venom into his ears. I tried to distance myself and spend more time in the village. I helped at the orphanage and opened up a shelter for Omegas with guards stationed outside for protection but... at the end of the day it was not enough.”
You take a deep breath and look back at the flower you were inspecting before she arrived, your hand flattening on your mark as you speak.
“He had gone into rut and I in heat. I thought that... perhaps I could trust him. That being bonded to him was not such a chore. And then he...” you clench your jaw and shake your head.
“I will admit, my actions were perhaps a little harsh, but I know my worth. I know how a man should treat a woman, how an Alpha should treat his Omega.” You bring your eyes to hers once again, “if you or Father witnessed the way he treated me, a war would’ve started. Had Elden been there... well... there would’ve been bloodshed, that I know for certain.”
Your brother has always been protective of you. He's the one who taught you how to wield a sword and use a bow, how to outrun your enemies and overpower your foes.
He taught you how to be strong.
If he witnessed what your Alpha did to you in front of all of his councilmen, you’ve no doubt he’d slit the older Alpha’s throat.
“My daughter... what you have experienced... I cannot even begin to truly imagine it. You are strong and brave and every bit the Omega I raised you to be. You have made me proud and I know your father thinks the same.” She pulls you into a tight hug and strokes your hair gently, comforting you in a way that only she knows how.
“I know not what you are thinking nor what you are feeling, though I can see you are distressed. Your bond yearns for him, does it not? You feel it deep in your being.”
Slowly, you nod your agreement.
“That is natural, my darling. And, with time, it shall pass. What will not pass is the good that you’ve done for his Kingdom and yours.”
Ah yes, the Kingdoms, separated once again.
Something about that doesn’t sit right with you, but you ignore it for now.
“You have left an impact on the people, your people, and you will be remembered for your strength. You may yearn for him, but that does not make you weak. It is what makes us people.” She pulls away and cups your face in her hands, wiping away a stray tear.
“If he has hurt you, you owe him nothing. And if he wants to wage a war, then a war will be fought. And, for you, we will fight down to the last man. There will not be peace until there is justice. Of course, your father may be more diplomatic, but he would do well to remember who leads his army.”
You sniffle and smile up at her, your heart filling with warmth and love as she places a kiss onto your forehead.
“We are strong Omegas. Savage women, darling. Do not forget that. These men may think they rule the Kingdoms, but we know who truly does.”
With one last kiss to your forehead, your mother turns and makes her way out of the gardens.
All your life you knew your mother loved you, but the extent of it has never made itself known until now.
Her words bring you comfort and security, and you take a few deep breaths and lift your head high.
He will not haunt you.
~*~
“My lady?”
You raise your eyes from the book in your lap and give Wanda a warm smile.
“Good evening, Wanda.”
She toys with a string on the end of her sleeve, her head bowed s she steps into your chambers.
“My Lady, I must speak plainly to you about what happened the day the King came to find you.”
You frown and sit up a bit taller, giving her your complete attention.
“I know that my actions were treasonous and punishable by death, and I will accept whatever punishment you see fit, but I cannot allow you to continue thinking that I am innocent in all of this.” She takes a deep breath then spills all the thoughts that have been plaguing her over the past several days.
“I am the one who fetched The King. He did not threaten me, I went searching for him and I disclosed your location. I am the reason you were brought back to the Palace and I’m the reason that bond mark remains on your neck. I’m so sorry, My Lady. I know you had said being bonded to him is a fate worse than death, but to see you come so close to death’s embrace is something I could not stand. Not if I could help it. I will accept the punishment that I have earned for my treachery, and I apologize once again for betraying your trust.”
You blink at her, her words slowly processing in your mind.
She sought out the King.
She found him and willingly disclosed your location.
She prevented you from dying and she brought him to you.
She’s the reason you’re still bonded to him.
And she’s the reason you’re still alive.
“I thank you for your honesty, Lady Wanda,” you finally murmur, mind fuzzy with the new information.
If this is the truth, then why did James say otherwise? Why did he lie about threatening the information out of her if...
“He lied to me,” you realize aloud, your eyes raising to Wanda’s.
“He lied to protect you. To protect the one friend I had in his Kingdom, the only person I truly trust.”
He must’ve known how livid it would make you to hear about Lady Wanda being threatened, yet he lied anyway to protect her.
Your bond aches and you take a deep breath.
“You are dismissed, Wanda. And you need not worry of any punishment. You saved my life, I now owe you a debt.”
She shakes her head and gives you a soft smile.
“You are a sister to me, My Lady. I would die for you and kill for you,” she echoes your words from all that time ago and you feel a smile tug at your own lips.
She bows her head then takes her leave, leaving you alone with your thoughts and your aching bond.
Though his actions will not be forgiven, he has taken steps to try and correct them, that, you can admit.
And you do miss the children at the orphanage and the women at the Omega shelter.
You will speak to him, that is all.
You will bring Elden and Pietro and you will speak with the King and create new terms that he will agree to, terms which allow you to resume your work in the village.
And if he is truly sorry, he will get on his knees and he will grovel. He will beg for your forgiveness, and even then you will not grant it.
Your bond mark burns as you pack your bag, and you only hope the pain will lessen once you can smell him again.
As much as you try to convince yourself that you do not miss him, you do not need him, you know you’re wrong.
He has a part of you, a piece of your heart, and you know he will not give it back.

“Your Majesty!”
James stops his horse and glances over his shoulder as a new rider approaches, clearly out of breath.
“The King and Queen of Lothiella have arrived at the Palace and are demanding your presence,” the young man explains between breaths.
James only turns away.
“I will return once I’ve found my wife, not a moment before. Steve, go back to entertain our guests until I return.”
The blond draws his brows together.
“And what am I to tell them?”
“You will tell them the truth. That I search for their daughter who has run away. You will divulge no more details than that.”
In truth, the brunet grows more and more anxious as the hours pass.
The burning in his neck has grown stronger, and the bond has grown weaker. It is only a matter of days before he loses the bond altogether.
He just prays to find you before then.
A twig snaps from further in the forest and all the attention is on the noise.
Some men are prepared to fight, others prepared to see the Queen stumbling through.
What no one anticipates, however, is to see the Queen’s Lady in Waiting, her dress covered in mud.
“Lady Wanda!” James exclaims, sliding from his horse and racing over to the young woman.
She all but falls into him, exhausted beyond belief.
“Where is she? Where’s my Omega?” He looks around, desperate to see you, to make sure you’re all right, but one look at Wanda’s grief-stricken face has him thinking the worst.
“No... I-I can feel her.”
Wanda shakes her head and sniffles, looking past the King to all the soldiers watching intently.
“I will share information with you in private, Your Majesty.”
He nods and looks over his shoulder.
“Steve, you will lead the men back to the Palace. Sam and Natasha will stay with me.”
Everyone is quick to follow the barked orders, the group dispersing until only Sam and Natalia remain behind the King.
“Where is she, Lady Wanda? You will speak plainly.” He doesn’t mean to sound so harsh, but he can’t help it. He’s been holding his inner Alpha back from the moment he found out you left, and as the pain grows stronger, his control grows weaker.
“You will remember that I answer to my Lady before I answer to you, Your Majesty, and that by coming here to find you I am committing an act of treason.”
He nods, trying to calm himself down as she glares up at him.
She doesn’t know all the details of what he did to you, but she knows it’s enough for you to seek death’s embrace.
“She is not well, Majesty. I fear she has only hours left.”
The King bristles at her words, his inner Alpha howling in agony at the thought of losing his Omega.
“What do you mean? What has happened, where is she?”
Wanda swallows hard and looks between him and the two others in the forest.
“I am not telling you this for your gain. If I did not need your help I would not seek it. But without you, My Lady will die. She is family to me. A sister. Were there any way for me to save her without needing you, I would have sought it out,” she says coldly, trying to make sure he knows that she isn’t here on his behalf.
She needs to save you. She has to.
And if you punish her for her actions, so be it. But she can’t let you die. Not like this.
It hurts his heart to hear such words, but he nods.
“How can I help.”
Here’s the hard part.
Wanda readies herself for the possible fury of the Alpha in front of her. If the Sorceress was right, then not even the Gods will protect the two of you from his wrath.
“She has sought out a woman, one who has helped others with such situations, though she warned that not many survive.”
“What situation do you speak of? And where is this woman? I will have words with her.”
Wanda only shakes her head, “the woman is gone now, long gone. But... My Lady was unhappy. She felt as though she was trapped and the only way to escape besides death was... to have your bond broken.”
His heart drops into his feet and his stomach ties in knots.
You tried to break the bond.
He pushed you away, humiliated you and destroy a piece of your spirit so terribly that you went to such lengths to get away from him.
His inner Alpha is torn between being angry at you for doing such a thing, and angry at himself for causing such a thing.
The emotions crash over him so heavily that his knees nearly buckle under the pressure.
“She... where is she? How can I help?” There must be something he can do. He’ll do anything to make this right, to save you and show you that he truly regrets what happened.
He needs to see you, to hold you in his arms and apologize.
He’ll tear apart the sky and rip the Gods from their thrones if they take you from him.
Though, through all of this anger, he knows that he is the only one at fault for what may happen to you.
“She is unwell. The only way to save her life is to save the bond. You must bond her again, though I know not how much time we’ll have before it is too late.”
Within seconds he’s hoisting Wanda up onto his horse and climbing on behind her, following her directions through the trees with Natalia and Sam following behind.
He slides from his mare as soon as they halt outside of the cabin.
He can smell you, smell the pain and the agony turning your scent sour.
“Sam, Natalia, you will stand watch,” he orders, marching into the cottage with a hand on the hilt of his sword.
Wanda leads him to the bed where you lay and his heart clenches in his chest.
You’re covered in a thin sheen of sweat and your eyes are shut.
Your once bright and lively skin is now dull and lifeless, and there are bags beneath your eyes that weren’t there before.
All because of him.
Because he let Sharon whisper filth into his ear.
He should have her head for what she did.
But all the words in the world don’t control his actions. He’s the King. His actions are his own and he cannot blame anyone else.
Whatever happens to you is his fault, and that is something he’ll need to live with. Something he’ll need to explain to your parents when he returns to the Palace. He just hopes he comes back with you by his side instead of in a casket.
“My sweet Omega, what have I done,” he whispers, stroking your hair gently.
Your chapped lips part softly and a pained noise falls from them.
“You will leave us, Lady Wanda. When I am finished I will call you.”
Wanda bows her head and exits the cottage, leaving you alone with your mate.
He sheds his clothing swiftly, trying to keep a clear head, though the worry he feels for you is making it a bit difficult for his baser instincts to comply.
“It will all be all right, Omega, that I swear.”
He positions himself between your thighs, leaving you on your back to watch your face for any signs of distress.
Your skin is hot against his, so hot that it borders on being uncomfortable, but he can swallow down any discomfort for the rest of your marriage after what he’s done to you.
He sheathes himself inside of you gently, trying to be as careful as possible with you.
Gone is the fiery, strong Omega that he’s come to care about. In her place is a fragile, delicate, broken creature who needs nurturing and love.
He’s gentle as he moves, keeping as little of his weight on your body as he can as he ruts against you and brings his lips to your neck. His tongue darts over the mess of scar tissue where his mark used to be, the source of all the pain.
Soon enough everything will be okay.
Though there’s nothing on his mind but saving your life, his knot catches quickly, and his teeth clamp down on your neck much like they did that first night.
Like water to a flame, the burning pain in his neck evaporates.
The longing in his soul is replaced by a content fullness, a sense of peace that lets him know he’s done it.
He’s saved you.
With a heavy sigh, he rolls the two of you onto your sides, being mindful of his knot in your body, and pulls you closer to him. Your chest is pressed against his and he presses his nose to your neck, scenting you and successfully calming the roar of his inner Alpha.
He stays there, pressed against you, for hours, listening to your pulse steady and feeling your skin cool, the fever long gone.
It takes a while, but eventually, you start to wake up.
You’re groggy and confused and there’s an aching pain coming from your neck, though it’s welcome after the fire that was there for so long.
Slowly, you bring a hand up to feel at your neck, fingers trembling as you brush over the bumpy mark there.
A frown graces your lips and you peel your eyes open, looking around the dim room for a moment before pushing yourself into a seated position.
You cup your neck, fear coursing through your veins as you feel the fresh mark and smell the scent that you’ve been trying to get out of your head for days.
“You tried to destroy our bond.”
Your eyes dart up to the voice and you swallow hard, eyeing the Alpha sitting in the corner of the room.
He doesn’t look angry, only sad.
“I was only finishing what you had already started,” you retort, glaring at him.
He lets out a slow breath then rises to his feet, his shoulders hunched and head ducked slightly in an attempt at getting rid of the power dynamic between the two of you, something he’s never done before.
“Omega... I was wrong.”
You scoff and roll your eyes, looking away from him.
“What I did is inexcusable and there is nothing I can say to justify it. I am sorry, for all the pain and suffering I caused. To make you feel like this was what you had to resort to... Omega... I’m so sorry.”
You shake your head at him, fighting back tears as the Omega inside you yearns for her Alpha, a result of the fresh bond, no doubt.
“All you have done in this marriage is belittle me and treat me as if I am not important. You allow your council to threaten me and harm me, and-”
“Who has threatened you? Which of them has raised a finger to you?” He’s crouching in front of you now, eyes trained on yours then dropping to the bruises on your bicep when you scratch at the marks.
“Who has done this to you?”
You grind your teeth together and shake your head.
“Will it matter? All you will do is congratulate them. Or perhaps you’ll punish them for not killing me when they had the chance,” you snap, yanking away from him when he reaches out to touch the marks.
He frowns. “is that what you truly think of me, Omega? That I care so little about you?”
“You’ve given me no reason to think any differently.”
His heart shatters at the truth behind your words.
You’re right.
He hasn’t given you a reason to believe that he cares.
He’s been nothing but selfish this entire marriage, focused more on what others are saying than what truly matters.
And now he’s caused damage that perhaps cannot be repaired.
He wishes he could hold your bond in his hands and kiss it back to health, nurse it until it is glowing and blooming.
But he cannot.
What’s done is done.
“How did you find me?” You ask after a moment, glaring at him.
He slowly raises his eyes to yours, thinking for a moment before answering.
“We found your Lady searching for food in the forest. She confessed to your whereabouts and what you needed after her family was threatened.”
You sniffle and look away, refusing to cry in front of the man who’s hurt you.
“You threatened her family and harmed her to put me through more torture. You’re a disgusting monster and you will rot in Hell for all of eternity.”
His jaw flexes a few times as he suppresses his own tears.
“Come. We will return to the Palace. Your parents will be eager to hear of your return.”
This catches your attention.
“My parents?”
He nods, rising to his feet and smoothing down his trousers.
“I had written to them the day after your disappearance. Your mother will help you clean and I will discuss business with your father. Something needs to be done after such... an ordeal.”
You glare at him with nothing but disgust in your eyes.
How dare he involve your parents and how very dare he not allow you the peace of death, going so far as to threaten your Lady in waiting.
Wanda deserves better than that.
He leaves the cottage and Wanda rushes in, pulling you into a tight embrace that you melt into.
A soft sob falls from your lips and you hold her tightly.
“I’m so sorry, Your Majesty,” she whispers, holding onto you as if her life depends on it.
You cry for only a few moments before regaining your composure and pulling away from her.
“Thank you, Wanda. I’m sorry for putting you through this. I will not allow them to harm you, I swear.”
Wanda holds your hand and smiles softly, though she’s conflicted.
Why are you not angry at her? You should be, after all, she fetched your Alpha. It is her fault that you're going back to the Palace.
