The Alpha SMP Experiment

When playing Minecraft, I always wondered: What would happen if a bunch of players had full reign of a world? What would happen?

Before now, I could really only look at other examples and study them. That is, until today. I have finally acquired the means to host my OWN Minecraft server, and I wish to (attempt) to conduct this experiment for myself.

For this experiment, I have chosen version Alpha 1.2.6 (a1.2.6). It is so archaic, and I want to simultaneously see what arises in this world from the unfamiliarity with this version & the limitations this may bring, and how players overcome them. May you do whatever your heart desires with little to no rules or supervision. This world is paved by YOU!

HELP, INFO & RULES BELOW:

If you aren't using Prism, or the Betacraft launcher (the latter of which I recommend for this experiment as it supports skins), you will need to toggle the "Show historical versions of Minecraft: Java Edition in the Launcher" option under "MINECRAFT: JAVA EDITION SETTINGS" in the Minecraft Launcher settings to even see version a1.2.6 in the official launcher.

If you can't get in, just wait a bit. But rest assured, if this gets more popular than I expect, I will pay for a server to house more players.)

Since one of the focal points of this experiment is to see what players do when left to their own devices, there are not many rules I want to impose, however there are a few:

Do NOT lag the server.

No bots

You don't have to get along. Just refrain from using slurs or attacking ones character.

Don't make me add more rules.

There’s just SOMETHING about the old terrain generation that I love and miss. I really wish there was a biome in vanilla Minecraft that just recreates the old terrain generation and colors.

Can you imagine? You’ve been passing through giant hills and mountains, through underground passages and deep dark biomes, through trial chambers and pale gardens… then suddenly on your travels you step out of a massive cave system into the light…

…and suddenly you’re home.

Remove New Music Resource Pack

I’ve been going down an old school trip with Minecraft lately and one of the things that’s been bothering me is all the new music. Don’t get me wrong, Minecraft music is awesome... but something about the new music just doesn’t hit the same for my anymore.

I looked everywhere but I couldn’t find a resource pack that removed the new music. I found a couple which added some songs from the official Alpha Beta track list, but those aren’t from the game I remember playing either.

So I made a resource pack that silences all new music. It’s very simple. I took a bunch of audio files with 1 second of silence in them, renamed them to the new music files, and compiled them in a resource pack.

It’s lightweight, does not modify any of the original music at all or modify your game!
