A bit of an experimental one. Felt like re-working Alphonsa’s colors and such.

Reflections of the lives of Saint Alphonsa of Kerala and Saint Therese of Lisieux
Everybody has someone who is truly dear to them. Although some forms of the ideal beloved may be mortal, there is an immortal dear one. Through the eyes of spiritual giants, such as the Catholic saints St. Alphonsa of Kerala and St. Therese of Lisieux, God is the ultimate spouse.
On the holy day of January 2nd, 1873, St Therese, also know as The Little Flower, was born to Louis and Zelie Martin in the humble town of Alencon, France. She describes her life which was as brief as the passing of a cloud on a windy day as the “little way of spiritual childhood”. Like every other saint, she had her share of suffering with her master, but she bore it with strength from her very birth. From the early age of 18 months old, she had given slight hints of her true nature as God’s servant. Although showing signs that a martyr would, she was still a child. She cried whenever she felt that her father was not pleased by her actions or words, she threw tantrums when she was a child and, she experienced common human emotions such anger, annoyance, and impatience. Living a brief life of only 24 years, her work has transformed the world on an enormous scale. Therefore, ironically, her little way is not so little since it has inspired people to build churches named after her and the translations of her autobiography which sells by the millions. So you may be thinking, how could she make such a significant impact in such a short amount of time? The secret is leaning back on the presence of Divine Grace. The Little Flower smiled through her depression, tuberculosis, and period of delusion simply because she trusted in God.
Alphonsa, greatly inspired by the spiritual giant Therese, followed in the French saint’s footsteps by being an additional example of what The Little Flower calls her “little way”. She is a model for chastity, sincerity, and bhakti (devotion). Born in Kerala, India with a high population of Hindus in India, she also showed a high tolerance for other religions, representing the true qualities of a Christian, acceptance and impartial love for all. Not long after her birth which was on the blessed day of August 19th, 1910, her Mother died, leaving the responsibility of taking care of a child in the hands of Alphonsa’s aunt. All throughout Alphonsa’s, also known as Annakutty in her childhood days, life she suffered immensely because of the path of sainthood. The instance that shook me the most was when her aunt was trying to force her into marriage and Annakutty jumped into a burning fire as a symbol of her refusal to do so as well as to share the suffering of Christ. Later on after she entered the Franciscan Clarist Congregation, she endured the stigmata granted by Christ, allowing all of those in the convent to witness it. Until her death, Alphonsa experienced illnesses such as pneumonia, gastroenteritis and more. But, like Therese, saw these excruciating ailments as pure grace in disguise.
Generally, ones with divine, noble qualities such as these two women touch the hearts of many with their fidelity and unwavering devotion to their Beloved Christ. Surely, to acquire such beautiful qualities and to be an example to humanity in action as well as words calls for an opening to the Divine influence; but, just how the sandalwood stick must be rubbed against the stone in an extremely rough fashion in order to produce the sweet smelling sandalwood paste, the devotee of God must suffer through a tremendous amount of hardships in order to become pure and “madhura” (Sanskriti for sweet). Evidently, Therese puts,“’ I thank thee, O my God, for all the graces Thou hast bestowed on me, and particularly for making me pass through the crucible of suffering. It is with joy I shall behold Thee on the Last Day bearing Thy scepter - the Cross”, (Source 1).

3. “Zelin,” I say. I sigh and smile. She smiles at me. “Daisy,” she says. “Named after a flower.” She giggles, which is weird every time she does it. She leans forward and kisses me. On the lips. I giggle. She gives me a serious look and says, “You understand. This is for a reason.” “Reason?” “Yes.” She sits up. The sheet slides off her. I sit up facing her. “Daisy. You are going to tell me…
