Head to the Tirol for an authentic Austrian summer
The Tirol region of Austria is known as an activities paradise that offers mountain biking, white water rafting, canyoning, hiking, walking, cycling and climbing. Along with the modern, high energy sports lie ancient traditions and festivals celebrating mountain life.
This makes it the ideal place for a mixture of fun activities and relaxation in the unspoilt outdoors.
Here's what's taking place over the summer:
Almabtrieb - a bovine 'homecoming'
Experience a hundred year old Tirolean tradition throughout September and early October across many resorts in the Tirol. Herds of cows and sheep are brought down from the high summer pastures to their farms in the valley where they spend most of the winter. This tradition is accompanied by colourful celebrations with locals in traditional costumes, the animals decorated in ribbons and headdresses and rural villages full of market stalls selling local produce.
