He pulled back, meeting her hesitant eyes. He had always thought she’d known—the idea of her not seemed impossible—but maybe, just maybe, she didn’t. He pressed a kiss to her hairline, between her eyes, darting down her nose before hesitating above her lips. Dragging his eyes back to hers, he tried to find the strength to say it.

“I really, really like you.”

It wasn’t quite it—but, he could see, it was enough.
