Hey Abbie, What's Jessica Jones like in terms of things like blood and gore and stuff? I really want to watch it but things that are too bloody can make me pass out (I'm weeeaaaak, it's is why I can't watch daredevil even though I really want to)
Hi! JJ isn’t as bloody/gory as DD, which is not to say that there’s none of that in JJ at all. It’s just (for the most part) less, and less graphic. Mostly.
Most of the real bloodiness that occurs is in Jessica Jones (if my memory serves correctly, because it’s been months since I watched it last) occurs in the last handful of episodes. It’s still MOSTLY just, like, blood, specifically, except one scene I can think of that does kinda get a bit gory. There’s a lot more threat of horrific gory violence (thanks Murdercorpse) than actual followed-through gory violence, but again, still not none.
If you’re squeamish, maybe watch with a friend? Even better if you can watch with a friend who has already seen it so they can go “okay look away in the next bit” and tell you when it’s clear again. Or, alternately, if you get the feeling things are about to Take a Turn for the Bloody, you could try hitting pause immediately, taking a few deep breaths to steady and brace yourself, and then when you feel prepared, hit play again?
What bloody stuff there was in Jessica Jones wasn’t the toughest stuff for me, helped by there being genuinely less of it than in Daredevil. For me, the challenge of bracing for Jessica Jones was the very triggery nature of telling a rape survivor’s story and confrontation with her former abuser that is the entire premise of the show. Like, they handle it really well, believe me, but no matter what, it’s tough, not least because it is a big part of every episode in some way.
Jessica Jones can be a tough watch for lots of reasons; it’s definitely not light, easy fun fare. But I encourage you to try it anyways, if you can. It’s an excellently handled, high quality story, and to me, very much still worth it. <3
If anybody else maybe could/wants to chime in with a better, more detailed breakdown of the bloodier parts of JJ, how often and when they occur, as sort of a viewing guide, I encourage you to do so.
