the version of spn that exists in my head is as follows:

- John was a preacher before Mary, and raised Dean with bible passages, to be the perfect righteous avenger for his mother.

- Sam left a earlier than Stanford, unable to cope with his father, the person he had become. As in, physically. On account of his demon blood, it boils him inside to hear his father recite exorcisms. He was on track for Stanford, but ends up bunking with a witch in Louisiana for a few years before Dean finds him and Dad Goes Missing.

- Jimmy Novak worked at the office of a backwards mortician. He was a tired, devout man on account of the repentance he swallowed working under corruption, turning a blind eye to put food on the table for Amelia and Claire. When Castiel possesses him, he feels, for the first time, the release of guilt that weighed him down as a husk of a father, and an absent husband.

- Dean’s Colt is engraved with John 2:29. He dresses himself in the skin of righteous men he’d ever seen growing up. Wide-brim Stetsons, heeled boots, a large gold belt buckle.

- castiel, now possessing Jimmy Novak, struggles to keep his true form from mutating Jimmy. Beneath Jimmy’s trench coat, he hides blinking blue eyes on his limbs, golden rings circling his chest like moving tattoos. The longer he stays in the vessel the more it warps, the more it eats away at Jimmy and the more he Becomes Castiel.
