Levi looked horrible. His clothes were bloodier than usual and his hair was a mess. It usually stayed in place and didn't move much. You never understood what he did to it for it to stay like it did. Maybe he used a shit ton of hair-spray. But no matter what he did this morning, didn't change how he looked now, in the late evening. He stood in the doorway, his button up for once in his life hanging freely and loosely on his body. It was bloody. It was practically dripping. His forehead was glistening with sweat, his hair stuck to it in small strands. You pouted softly as you looked at you husband. You cooed out his name as you walked to him, dusting off your flour covered hands in your apron. His eyes lightened up slightly at your presence. He took off his coat, hung it up on the coat rack and looked at you. He was tired. Exhausted. Stressed out. It was easy to see on the way his eyebrows were knitted together.
"You okay, Levi?" you cupped your husbands face, wiping off a splatter of blood off of his cheek. You never used nicknames. Both of you found the too weird or too cheesy and it made you both cringe. He didn't answer you, he just closed his eyes as he let out sigh, relaxing in the warm touch of your hands. Your hands were still stained with egg whites and flour, but he didn't care right now. He was tired. You let go of his face again. "I'll just put this bread in the oven and then we can clean up the kitchen together, how about that? Hm?" you looked at your husband with a soft smile as you wiped your hands in your apron again. His eyes stared into yours before he nodded, softly pecking your warm cheek before he headed to the bathroom. You smiled to yourself as your cheeks heated up. You looked after him before you returned to the kitchen table, punching the dough one more time before slicing a few streaks in it to make it airier when it came out of the fiery oven again. You slid the bundle of dough onto the big paddle before putting it in the big oven. You wiped off the rough tree tabletop, putting the bowl you'd used in a bucket to wash up later. You grabbed a piece of wood for the fire before you felt a soft kiss to your shoulder. You smiled softly to yourself as you threw the wood in the fire before turning around. You met the blue eyes of your husband. You pulled him into a one armed hug, kissing his head. "Today sucked. We lost too many soldiers." You smiled sadly before pulling away, looking your husband in the eye. "But?" you waited for his answer before he sighed. "But it wasn't my fault." You smiled proudly at him. "Exactly." You took off your apron, hanging it up on the hook beside the oven. You grabbed a few pieces of fabric before handing two of them to Levi. He willing took them, tying one over his head and one on as a mask, covering his nose and mouth. You followed suit, cheekily smiling at him behind the fabric.
"It's a little dusty in here. I tried cleaning the oven while you were on mission-" "well you failed miserably at that." You snorted at his comment. "Well thank you, Levi. Love the feedback." You rolled your eyes at his as you wiped down the window, sitting on the counter as you watched Levi on all four, scrubbing the floor. "Anytime." he muttered, dipping the cloth in the water bucket again. You stopped washing, noticing how your husbands eyebrows were still frowned deeply. It wasn't out of concentration like everyone else would've said. Something was still bothering him. You hesitated but then opened the window, letting your legs dangle out. "Hey Levi..." You waited patiently for him to answer. "Levi?" You turned your head to see him finally looking up from the floor, raising his brow at you. "What, uh... what happened, on the mission?" You turned your head back to look out the window. He sighed, standing up and wrenched the cloth, the excess water splashing back into the bucket. He neatly folded the cloth before laying it on the edge of the bucket. He crawled onto the table and sat beside you, his legs dangling out the window as well. You shared the view with him as he glanced at you. He looked out the window again, letting out a sigh. He moved his hand, grabbing yours. You smiled softly to yourself as you locked your fingers together. "I lost too many soldiers." Levi looked at his feet. You shook your head before looking at him. "You, didn't do anything beside what you had to do. You saved a lot of people today. How many lost their life?" Levi bit his lip. "17." You pulled down the fabric over your nose and mouth before pulling his down, forcing him to look at you. "And you saved a whole district. They knew what they were signing up to." He looked down at your locked hands again before looking at you. He kissed your lips briefly before letting go of your hand again, sliding off the table and back onto the hard wood floor, putting his mask on again. You smiled as you watched your husband clean the rest from the window at your kitchen counter.
"You look hot when you clean." Levi looked at you, it was hard to read his face. "You're disgusting." You let out a laugh, throwing your head back. "You are!" "Please stop." "Admit it, you look good." "I do, but not when I clean. Weirdo"
