Im sorry if this has been asked before! But! What are your HCs for the colour of an altean's markings? how do you decide this for your adorbs OCs??
Well I’ve always been headcanoning them as a sort of bioluminescence sort of thing (gotta love me some glowing aliens, THAT’S MY JAM)and with the colours maybe something to do with colour spectrum with the different frequency, is the skin with the markings different or thinner, is it in the blood, bones? so many different possibilities~
HC the colour is inherited usually like with eyes (also hc cause the pupil and iris on Alteans are different colours, are usually mixed with the parents eyes) and hair colours from the parents, though can come out with a complete different colour with a mutated genes or mixed.
For my OCs the colours are a design choice. I design the Altean ocs and set out a basic colour scheme, I then play around with the colour of the markings. What colours suit the oc colour scheme or either adjusting the colours on the oc to suit the markings instead or maybe suit personality wise (like when I was designing Lori as an Altean, what was set was purple toned hair and yellowish eyes. now just had to play around until found the right reddish colours to suit, to match red lion and I ended up with a red hot pink colour for her markings, which looks GOOD)
