Hi! 😊
I have a poto question. I don't like that they keep tinkering around with the "brilliant original" and since it didn't concern me (aka I didn't have the funds to travel to watch those versions anyway) I never kept close tabs on the restaged tour or Cameron Mackintosh's "spectacular" new production. Since the latter is coming to Germany this fall I now want to check out what exactly that means (aka now it concerns me). Being a follower of yours of many years I bet you already made or at least reblogged a post at some point where you list all the changes this version made/what the differences are. Would you mind directing me to that? I searched myself but didn't find what I was looking for.
Also do you know if they still charge the same type of money for these...."versions" of the original?
Thank you!
OMG ALVADEE HI CONGRATS ON GETTING A VERSION YOU DON'T LIKE
Ahem... anyway, differences! So you're getting the restaged tour, and to be honest, so much is different about it that I don't think even multiple posts can encompass it. One thing you can check out is this gifset, which provides a rundown of some of the most notable visual differences. I also wrote a sort of follow-up post to that, listing more changes that didn't make it into the gifset (and something on the 25th anniversary concert, but you can ignore that). Furthermore, the subsequent Australian tour and Vienna production made a few alterations of their own, generally for the better, and you can read this post about that, since most likely all those changes will roll over into the upcoming German production.
As for money, that's not something I can really speak to, and it might also be something that's hard to determine, since it can vary depending not just on stuff like location and seating, but other things like, you know, inflation and what-not. As an example, I probably paid a little over $100 to see the restaged US tour, $500 to see it on Broadway, and now over $200 to see the new US tour that's closer to the replica in staging. I've never seen the original US tour, but my parents did, and they paid $45 each when it was in LA. But as you might guess, it's a bit hard to draw conclusions from that - for the restaged tour, I was sitting in different and somewhat cheaper seats than the ones I picked for the US tour that's running right now; for Broadway, it was literally closing and so of course ticket prices were hiked all the way up; and as for my parents... they were in the balcony. In 1990 lol. I will say that when I saw the Love Never Dies tour in the same theater and seats, it was basically the same price! In general though, I felt the pricing was reasonable.
Anyway, hope that all helps!
