"WELL, ALLY—HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO BE A GOD?"
Pitched as QUEER ATLA MEETS PERCY JACKSON, Alvoskia: Call of the Infrans is a YA SFF debut following a group of reincarnated chosen ones. Raised together since childhood and trained to serve and protect the nation of Alvoskia, the Infrans are thick as thieves, but Infran of Life Ally Hatten can't quite seem to get her powers back, and time is running out, especially when the threat of war is brought to her doorstep. To stop the conflict before it begins, she'll have to rely on her vengeful twin sister and one-sided rival—people she both loves and loathes in equal measure.
Mixed with spades of Six of Crows, Call of the Infrans has an emphasis on:
Ragtag group of not squeaky clean, sometimes morally dubious protagonists
Entirely queer (i.e. nonbinary lesbian, trans, asexual characters) / BIPOC main cast
Unique and layered worldbuilding (religion, languages, etc) in a secondary world fantasy
Kaz/Inej's love child as a secondary main character
Friendship and found family
Shapeshifters
Past lives and parallels
It comes out March 3rd, 2026 and you can follow here at @alvoskia for updates in the meantime! I hope to see you there 🌟
also for newer followers who might not know
i'm writing a book! and it's getting published!
if you just want the immediate details you can click the read and read a short FAQ! if you need more to get sold on it, stick around and check it out!
My YA SFF fantasy debut, ALVOSKIA: Call of the Infrans, follows an Unchosen one named Ally who is struggling to find where she belongs amidst her chosen one found family family when violence arrives at their doorstep, and they're forced to fulfil their duties earlier than expected. There's dragons and child soldiers and subverted fantasy tropes, some tone consistent werewolves, an almost entirely queer main cast with the majority also being characters of colour, and if you've been following my blog for any amount of time, it probably has something for you.
If you like ATLA: "what if there were multiple Avatars running around, and what if they weren't all automatically good people?" + past lives and reincarnation cycles
If you like Derry Girls: hot mess of teenagers getting in and out of trouble together while being ridiculous (and sometimes very sad)
If you like PJO: young teenagers with cool powers going on quests together and coming-of-age. And snark. Lots of snark
If you like Six of Crows: morally dubious collection of protagonists, some heisting may or may not happen, outsiders working together
If you like TDP: elves and dragons and long standing grudges and politics
If you like Star Wars: y'know how the Force like consumes you the farther you wander in? yeah that's the magic system here. + some shadow, death, and shapeshifter stuff
If you like HTTYD: you're here for the found family and fun fantasy aesthetic aren't you
Rep: queer (aro, ace, bi, pan, trans, lesbian, nonbinary, genderfluid, gay main characters, often times overlapping); Asian (Indonesian), Black, Sri Lankan and Pakistani (coded) rep; hijabi rep; one character is an amputee and one main character is Autistic.
The debut month is March 2026! Sometimes there is even very pretty (commissioned or friends) art for it:
If you want more info in the meantime you can shoot me an ask or you can follow this sideblog for it. If you want a taste of my fandom writing first you can check out my AO3 or writing snippets on said side blog, like this one:
Likes and reblogs mean a lot and I hope you enjoy!
"Who is this" you may ask.
The answer to that question is that this is @thethiefandtheairbender's (aka @raayllum) lovely oc Ally!
In honor of their new side blog @alvoskia—a blog for their super cool WIP fantasy story—I thought I'd post the thing I drew for it!
another fanart for @alvoskia!! Wonderful Isuri, Infran of Moon, who would very much love it if she wasn’t a chosen one
hello! I just wanted to say that your work is so interesting and I can’t wait to read the book when it comes out! Your characters seem so well thought out and unique, and the story is so very intriguing. The concept of infrans is probably my favourite aspect of it and I cant wait to see more of your worldbuilding for them
I was wondering if there was any information you could share about the past infrans? Any worldbuilding inspirations or notes? (Obviously complete fine if you can’t and it leans into spoiler territory - I’ll just have to wait for the book to come out!)
I hope you have a lovely day!
Thank you!! The question of What is an Infran? is actually what every book is built around, to me, and has a different answer (thematically, emotionally, physically/socially) for each book. Premise wise, the concept was heavily inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender as I wondered 1) how do you always know an Infran (Avatar) is going to be a good person and 2) what would happen if there was more than one, and they could disagree in the moment > just past life counselling?
That said the power sets are very different and it's blossomed accordingly since then
Funnily enough originally Infranhood was hereditary (draft 1 from 2012 to about 2014) but I scrapped that since it didn't make much sense, and decided to go with past lives/reincarnation cycles from then on (2016 onwards).
We get to know a fair few past lives over the course of the series, as they can be accessed through both dreams (memories) and outright counsel, but here are the ones who are most relevant to book one (and tbh the series as a whole).
Nyasha Diacode was an Infran of Life and Ally's immediate predecessor. She was a princess who was much more interested in being a revolutionary. Her name means "unbreakable spirit" in Aeling was an Emeraeling (northern) elf, and I love her a lot. She and her mother and daughter have quite loaded histories we get to learn more about in book 2!
Then we have Dyas Dearborn, who was the immediate (previous) Infran of Blood. He and Nyasha were quite close and although being significantly younger by about 20 years, he died quite young in his 30s. He was a very kind and compassionate young man who used his healing powers to well, heal/save people. His younger sister is sometimes referred to as our Dearborn, named Grisha, and she became the caretaker of the next generation of Infrans / belongs to something called the Order of Infrans (group dedicated to serving / raising / protecting Infrans + recording their histories, often made up of family lines descended from previous Infrans or those who owe them debts).
Last but not least we have Darius Zmai, an Infran of Fire who lived 3000+ years ago. He was also the last Infran of Fire, prior to Flames, who was able to transform into a dragon, and I'm going to keep the rest under wraps for worldbuilding / light spoiler purposes, but he's accordingly important for Flames' story and character arc(s). A fun fact about him, however, is that he broadly perceived himself as a dragon born into a man's body rather than the other way around.
Other past Infrans (of varying importance/mentions) that I think a lot about is Azarah Reech the Kingslayer (an Infran of the Moon), Beatrice Kettle (Infran of Death), Harrow Chesswick (Infran of Time; George's predecessor), and Wurhilda ‘Hilda’ Hartjekren (Infran of Life).
The past lives element was a fun way to do a not easily categorized "me but not me" mentor-mentee quasi familial bond with characters that otherwise would never be connected to each other, as well as let me explore themes of legacy, history, choice, etc. It also let me do a lot of fun worldbuilding stuff with how the cycle physically affects the current generation (ie. if you are somewhere your past life died or spent a lot of time, you might feel more restless/antsy, get ill, experience more dreams/visions, etc for an ex) and I love it a lot.
But yeah, those are a bit about just a few of the past lives! I hope it sated (stoked?) your curiosity for now and again thank you so much for your interest and your kind words!! ARC (free copies) signups are still available here and I'm hoping to get more info about when they'll actually be sent out soon!
worldbuilding: the Citadel
THE CITADEL
Location: southwestern Alvoskia
As the capitol of Alvoskia, the Citadel is one of the oldest cities in the country and typically the residence of the Head Monarch of Alvoskia. A hub for scholars, healers, and poets, domed Houses of Wisdom weave philosophical discussions with libraries only rivalled by that of Styr in the Northern Strait. The Citadel is a common place to seek out a government or law degree, as a good deal of the populace still speak traditional Alvoskian (Vyosk) fluently, and it was used for many old court documents.
The city is a giant circle modelled after an eye, largely thanks to its old fortified (crumbling walls) with the city divided into various sectors. The Head Monarch's palace is close to the general residential section, with another part of the city largely occupied by members of the Order of Infrans. The city has many temples, though a majority of the city adhere to Mavec and Mirheim practices, such as wearing naesara (headscarves). Older celebrations like the Water Spirits Festival eventually evolved into more widely celebrated holy days such as the Feast of Vita.
Beyond the city's immediate walls are farmland and a couple of rivers, including a few that flow from the Tygani River that allow for a great deal of trade from the Great Eastern Sea cities. The current dwelling of the young Infrans are also to the southwest of the Citadel, about a half hour's carriage ride away.
“Only Life, Fire, and Death,” Ginsenburg grunted, rubbing at her temples. “Rest of you, out. You’re making my head hurt.”
